NEW GALLUP POLL WILL SHOW BUSH UP BY 3. BEFORE THE CONVENTION, KERRY LED BY 4.

I've heard the worst bounce in history was 7 points for a challenger. This is a -7 point 'bounce'.

"What is this? The day after the dem convention - no bounce. Yesterday, Newsweek has a 4 point bounce. I just saw an article posted saying CNN has a "negative" bounce. And now, you post a 7 point bounce." If CNN is saying it is a negative bounce.....then it is worse. A nightmare for the Demos!
I worked the Republican booth at a county fair last week.
Lots of action from Pro-Bushers. The few Demos that came by only expressed hatred of Bush, but not one could say anything positive about Kerry. I suspect the Demo "faithful" just will not vote. (Fine by me!)

This is so much like the Nixon-McGovern contest it's almost like being 32 years younger. The hatred for the incumbent is a good example.

There are important differences. Wallace's 18 percent was up for grabs once he was eliminated by the assassination attempt, for example. Before that Nixon and McGovern split the other 82 percent equally.

McGovern got no bounce and remained stuck where he was when he left the starting gate. The same obnoxious ilk that supported McGovern are Kerry's base; i.e., mainstream media employees, self-proclaimed "intellectuals," the Hollywood Jane Fondas, various malcontents -- these "things" turn off the apolitical voter. In order to have a chance the Rats will have to send both the Kerry ticket and his supporters out of the country until after election day.

It's not likely to be a 520 - 17 Electoral College blowout but IMO it won't be close.

Wrist-slitting time at DU.

You made me curious so I donned my rat-retardant underware and strolled over to DU to check out their response to the CNN poll. I found a thread on the topic, but it is not coherent enough to quote. A little obscenity, taking the Lord's name in vain, and screeching. I think "angry denial" is about the best description.

The American people don't like either one of these guys

There is no such single thing as "the American people", and if there were, you are not qualified to speak for them.

"The American people don't like either one of these guys, and it will come down to whoever they dislike the most."

Every poll I've seen says that a sizable majority (almost 60%) of the American electorate likes Bush, with a smaller percentage agreeing with his policies.

I didn't know lawn darts were outlawed. I'm one of the idiots that was injured by one. It isn't a good idea to stand just behind the other guy's ring barefooted. But hey, I was only about 8.

Why is that so? Just wondering, I'm a curious girl.

Just how curious are you, AQ? Oh, mmmm. never mind.

Republican and republican leaning voters are thought by some to have better financial means and thus leave home on weekends to better enjoy themselves.

As opposed to Democrat and Democrat-leaning union thugs who are forced to work overtime by their Republican or Republican leaning bosses, thus making their financial situation better and reinforcing the republican numbers within the core voting population. This is known as the Inverted Half-Bell Curve Effect. Expect the lefties to be out between now and November shaking every Bush they can find looking for disappearing or hiding voters.

Now, back to your curiosity problem. You know that curiosity killed the cat. John sKerry may have gotten a dead cat bounce out of the convention. You may be blamed for this by your neighborhood lefties.

A bit defensive, are we?

I've predicted many times that neither one of these guys will get over 50% of the popular vote. We'll see in November.

I think the opposite of a "bounce" would be a "thud." Or possibly a "freefall". :-)

How about the opposite of a bounce being a 'dip'? It certainly fits him! :)

Poll: No boost for Kerry after convention By Susan Page, USA TODAY

WASHINGTON — The Democratic National Convention boosted voters' perceptions of John Kerry's leadership on critical issues, a USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll finds. But it failed to give him the expected bump in the head-to-head race against President Bush.

In the survey, taken Friday and Saturday, the Democratic ticket of Kerry and John Edwards trailed the Republican ticket of Bush and Dick Cheney 50% to 46% among likely voters, with independent candidate Ralph Nader at 2%.

Before the convention, the two were essentially tied, with Kerry at 47%, Bush at 46%.

The change in support was within the poll's margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points in the sample of 763 likely voters. But it was nonetheless a stunning result, the first time in the Gallup Poll since the 1972 Democratic convention that a candidate seemed to lose ground at his convention.

USA TODAY extended its survey Sunday night and tonight to get a fuller picture of what's happening with the electorate.

No problem. Chapel Hill, NC is nothing but lefties. When I'm in town for school, I'm already blamed for everything. The "Bush-Cheny '04" sticker and "Support Our Troops" magnet on my car already get me more dirty looks than I ever thought I could get.

Where can one find these rat-retardant underwear? I usually don the full self-contained breathing system, haz-mat detox control suit with nitrile gloves and over-booties. It makes it hard to type, but I can scroll sufficiently from within.

Generally I keep about the same distance from there as I would from a nuclear weapons test site.
