You should take a look at dvwjr's excellent analysis of the newsweek poll.

MSNBC/Newsweek changed their sampling from last week's poll such that they gave 9% more weighting to Democrats. If you use the same weighting they used in their previous poll, Kerry-Edwards has a NEGATIVE bounce!

The "independents" column just plain say it all... In this week's Newsweek poll, the independents are favoring Kerry by a margin of 45 percent to 39 percent. In the previous poll they were favoring Kerry by a much more substantial 53-34 margin.

So if Newsweek/MSNBC had used consistent sampling, Kerry would have gone down by 2%, which is also in line with Rasmussen and now Gallup. Bwaaahaahaaaaaaa!

Add to that a simultaneous claim that the electorate still needs to be introduced to Kerry, and you'll have tomorrow's DNC/NY Times talking points.

Wow. Who could have predicted that bellowing "I'm a war hero!" to anyone in range wouldn't resonate with voters?

Yeah, tell me about it. Did the Democrats really think that Americans want to see more of Carter, Kennedy, the two Clintons, and Al Sharpton??

Russert has a Newsweek poll that showed Kerry 47% Bush 42%.

Today's Rasmussen three-day rolling average poll shows Kerry picked up three points overnight and now leads by four. I wouldn't advise glomming on to whatever poll results are most favorable to Bush.

None of these polls mean anything until maybe after Labor Day, after the Republican Convention.

Concur. BTW, I think Bush will win by at least 8 percentage points.

CNN tried to spin this by saying Kerry got a higher number among registered voters, and explaining the difference between the two. The only reason they did this was because they were shocked by the results.

Wonderful news! If every American got behind this war, as we did in WW11, we could cut it short and save many lives. No, the haters and bashers are hell bent on power at any cost. This is a battle between Good, and Evil (God and the devil) We need a big time break through, and we will get it!

A consistant majority think Bush will win.

This is a key "internal" for all polls - something to always keep your eye one - In some polls it is more important then the "weigthed" horse-race numbers -

Your post #21...what you said (well, I'd change "kill rate" to "loss rate", but that's just quibbling).

Nice post.

and how confident we all were that Bush the elder would (in Hewitt's phrase) beat him like a bongo drum.

It seemed to me everyone knew Bush the elder would lose and was begging him to change course before it was too late. Its the exact opposite now. Bush the elder lost his base big time, Bush the current President has already wrapped the base up. We had hoped a big chunk of the American people would wisen up, but we knew it was heading in the wrong direction.

It was 49 for Kerry and 47 for Bush a week ago. That means Kerry dropped 3 points! The more they see Kerry, the more they don't like him.

One would never guess this from the media coverage. They have been wearing out their arms trying to polish this turd.

I just witnessed some female dem spinmeister on FOX. She was asked a reasonable question--what in Kerry's 20 years in The Senate can be regarded as an accomplishment? Her reply was telling--she said the election was about Bush's (negative) accomplishments--blah blah-shaky economy--blah blah blah. The Republican guest said it is as if Kerry came directly from Viet Nam into this campaign. If Kerry's spinners can't even spin a positive tale about his senate career, Bush is probably going to be okay.

I personally can't see how Kerry stands a chance...I think the hysterics we're seeing from the Michael Moore crowd are the death throes of the D party as we know it.

..Agree and witness the Dem-party become an modern day Know-Nothing Party in 2009.

...though I would love to see $hrillary nominated and run (gets defeated, both times) in '06 and '08, then watch/hear the divorce court proceeding/circus from Bubba.

...then, $hrillary running on the National Democratic Socialist Peoples Party of America - NDSPP ticket in 2012...and get 3% of the vote. :))

Let's name this:

1. A Terresa bump?

2. A "shove it" bump?

3. A French bumpp?

This afterall needs a nickname.

That scenario would be very desirable. Unfortunately, it's too early to call percentages of the vote.

I remember the moment I knew deep down inside that Bush 41 was toast: when he referred to Clinton and Gore as "these two bozos." I didn't want to admit it, even to myself, but I still remember the crushing depression which came over me when I heard him say that.

I smell the same stench coming from the Kerry Kampaign.
