Dem Ticket Doesn't Wow Marines At Wendy's.

Dem ticket doesn't wow Marines at Wendy's Saturday, July 31, 2004

7:30 a.m. EST Friday - At a rally before the 3,500-mile campaign bus tour leaves Boston, Sen. John F. Kerry [related, bio] drapes an arm over Mayor Thomas M. Menino's shoulder as they exchange post-convention compliments.

The rift between the two seems mended - at least in front of the cameras.

10:30 a.m. - The tour consists of 10 buses - half for the candidates, their families and aides, and half for media - along with four minivans, a lead car, a vehicle for TV camera crews and a truck carrying the gear that provides wireless Internet access. That doesn't count the Secret Service or state troopers. Rolling down 84 West, the highway is closed in one direction while Kerry's motorcade comes through. Some motorists seem angry at the delay, but Kerry supporters line up along the route with signs.

12:30 p.m. - Since it's the Edwards' 27th wedding anniversary, the candidates stop for lunch where the couple celebrates each year, at Wendy's. Edwards and Kerry greet a table of Marines, who answered their questions in monosyllables.

Later, the Marines tell reporters they support Bush. ``(Kerry) imposed on us and I disagree with him coming over here shaking our hands,'' one said.

4 p.m. - Supporters gathered for an outdoor rally in sweltering Scranton, Pa., wait for the bus tour - which arrives an hour and a half late. An onlooker collapses from heat and Vanessa Kerry, a third-year medical student, rushes to give medical assistance.

You know, I think you might be right. Hard to tell. But it doesn't look so much like a finger, now that I look again.

The more I look at it the madder I get. Kerry's face looks downright threatening. Like he's disciplining some soldier in his command. And yes, the Marine's hands do tell a lot. He was trying really hard not to blow. Makes me mad!

"Look at it closely, I don't think that's his finger."

I think it is his finger. I count three fingers below the extended digit and one thumb above. I would like to know what kerrie is telling the Marine that involves pointing his finger at him like that.

I'd say he's pointing at the Marine's ribbons, tryign to establish "I was a soldier too" rapport.

It doesn't much loook like it worked.

That photo needs to be on the front page of every newspaper to show how John eFing treats our troopers. Do you suppose... eFing is saying, "Pull my finger."

No, that's the Marine's white undershirt that looks like a business card.

Look at it closely, I don't think that's his finger. It looks like he's trying to palm off some of his campaign stuff (looks like a card of some type) and the Marine is not making a move to take it. As a matter of fact, you can see the young Marine reflexively starting to clench his fists as he controls his anger.

I mentioned on another thread that I thought Kerry was trying to hand the Marine a card...and the Marine didn't want it. Everyone insists a finger because he is famous for pointing to someone else. I see how they could jump to that conclusion but it cannot be his finger... it is as straight as a board.

I only see three fingers under the "point". . .It appears Kerry is pointing at the Marine. . .I dislike Kerry more everyday. . .

Good catch there McGavin999. I didn't notice that at first but I think you are right.

Of course it shoots to hell my version of the dialog. :)

Speaking of marines, see today's (July 31, 2004) San Diego Union-Tribune (perhaps available on their website)for a fine article revealing the exceptional valor of our great U.S. Marines in the Fallujah battles. It will make any American proud. This has received far too little publicity by Western reporters who preferred to dwell on the number of marine killed and wounded.

Don't think the marines will suffer for their demeanor toward the swift boat hero. After all, he is not their commander in chief.

"I hope he doesn't get into trouble for talking about his political views while in uniform."

An enlisted man can get away with quite a bit as long as he didn't initiate it. If someone asks an enlisted man what he thinks, he's pretty much free to give whatever opinion he wants.

I read somewhere that NONE of the major networks have run ANY stories of heroic action in Iraq. I know I've never seen any on TV.

Leave it to the media to twist it into some supposed political support.

The Marine was talking about his Commander in Chief in which he should be supporting.
