Kerry's Daughter Calls Campaign 'Family Affair'

John Kerry (news - web sites)'s youngest daughter stopped by the site of the 2004 Democratic National Convention Monday and spoke about her efforts to campaign for her father.

NewsCenter 5's Kelley Tuthill reported that Vanessa Kerry, 27, believes that campaigning for her father should be a family affair.

"We really just believe in our father, and I think we've all committed since the beginning of the primaries to make sure that he becomes president of the United States," Kerry said.

The goal is so important that Kerry will graduate from Harvard Medical School (news - web sites) one year later than planned. Kerry said that she is proud to campaign for her father.

"He's made huge efforts to be there for us growing up -- whether it was flying back from Washington on a Wednesday afternoon to see our game, whether it was literally counseling me through a breakup in college, knowing that caring and that depth of caring, I know that is part of the reason he will make an extraordinary president. I think that this country is starting to see that side," Kerry said.

Kerry spoke at the FleetCenter, where preparations are nearly complete for next week's Democratic National Convention. She has thought about what it would be like to be the first daughter.

"I don't think it's anything you can be prepared for. I just like to stay focused on the direction I'd like to see this country going and that helps me adjust to the schedule," Kerry said.

She has strong opinions that do not always match her father's -- she supports gay marriage and her father supports civil unions.

"We are dealing with discrimination. I think the most important thing is that we have a White House where we can have an actual debate. That's the most important quality about my father and that whole issue," she said.

Vanessa should be able to return to med school in mid-November - and she won't have to worry about being First Daughter!

Well if I ever break up with someone, I call him.

Look, girl. If you want to get married, marry a man. Two heterosexual women can't marry each other either, ipso facto, no discrmination.

Yes, they're such a warm, loving family that Kerry divorced Vanessa's mother and had the marriage annulled - meaning that he claimed that it was invalid from day one and never legally existed. Gag me with a white picket fence.

Yes, we can see they're worlds apart on that oh-so-important issue. By the way, as Kerry has only two daughters, she would be the younger, not youngest, but I don't suppose we can expect grammatical correctness from a puff piece writer.

I take it that this daughter isn't the slut who can't be bothered with a bra when it's translucent dress time?

Correction: Kerry ATTEMPTED to get the marriage annulled, but was denied. He went ahead and divorced wife #1, and then married the billionaire.

That's the family affair.

Cordially,

Are we sure it was denied? I get the impression this is shrouded in some secrecy, but thought I read he had a Catholic church wedding with Theresa which would suggest he did get the annulment.
