The real deal
Linda Ronstadt's current tour 'a history lesson of music' reflects her dedication to authenticity, and quality By George Varga July 15, 2004 Other singers may have a greater passion for music than Linda Ronstadt. But few have a greater passion for more types of music, or the willingness to perform them, even at the risk of falling on her face.
"My career has befuddled other people, and it's befuddled me," admitted Ronstadt, 58, who finds her fans are polarized by her nightly on-stage salute to "Fahrenheit 9/11" filmmaker Michael Moore.
"I've been dedicating a song to him I think he's a great patriot and it splits the audience down the middle, and they duke it out," she said.
"This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know."
"I saw a movie recently about a camel and these people in Mongolia, and I relate to them better than people here in this country. It looks like (Germany's) Weimar Republic to me here."

Under Truth In Advertising, why doesn't she advertise her concerts with the statement, "No Christians or Republicans Invited"? Answer: She wants their money, but not their criticism.
Well, fine with me, get on a camel and go entertain the Taliban. Don't forget to take your burqa.
It's a real conflict for me to hear Ronstadt music on the airwaves. I will call to complain to any radio station that plays her music, and that includes the old Stone Poneys song that gets played all the time.
Wonder if Mayor Moonbeam will weigh in on this...
"So goodbye, I'll be leavin' I see no sense
In this crying and grieving
We'll both live a lot longer, if you live without me"
Good idea. I should have paid attention to your lyrics, what, 35 years ago? Hateful Has-been Harridan.
How about Jewish Republicans??! ;)
Pardon me for saying this, but this is one person who deserves the "C Word" as a descriptor.
Good for you Linda. You should move to Mongolia and take Michael Fatass Moore and the other Hollyweirdos with you!
You're No Good, You're No Good, You're No Good, baby, You're No Good! I'm gonna say it again, You're No Good, You're No Good, You're No Good, baby, You're No Good!
"Linda Ronstadts says It's a "Conflict" performing for Christians and Republicans.."
Only if one is such a dem bitch as Linda Ronstand. Who is so conflicted she denys her Mexican roots by adaopting a angy liberal anglo persona and name. Small woder she is mentally screwed up.
Just your typical tolerant liberal!
I had a roomate back in the '70's that swooned over LR until I informed him she was the gf of CA governor Jerry Brown.
Funny, I have the same reaction upon learning that the performer on stage is a Democrat or a left-wing Michael Moore supporter. Talk about clouding MY enjoyment!
Whups, did I type that out loud?
It's okay if you ripped her albums into MP3s...just don't advertise that you have them available for download. Psssst! Want a full copy of Bill Clinton's book in PDF format? It's available, but only if your email can handle 7.5 MB file attachments.
"In a recent interview with the San Diego Union Tribune Linda Ronstadt was quoted as saying in that she feels uncomfortable performing for Christians and Republicans. She said 'It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know.'"
Is she so completely self-centered that she can't figure out the THE PEOPLE WHO ARE LISTENING TO HER FEEL EXACTLY THE SAME WAY ABOUT HER SPOUTING HER POLITICS? AND THEY'RE THE ONES THAT ARE PAYING TO HEAR HER.
Gee, maybe it's over....
The fat lady sang!
"I am big. It's the pictures that got smaller."
There's that line again: "It's an election year..." As if that fact excuses every ugly expression of hatred and even, yes, the theft of top secret documents.
I would be afraid that Legion would possess my hard drive. Get thee behind me!
She hasn't made an albumn in years. She is packing 200 lbs easily. She lives off of the income she generated 20 years ago...and I would guess that these casino gigs are paying less than $15k for a week. By the time you take out taxes and fees...she walks home with $8k. And there can't be more than 4 or 5 of these gigs per year. She lives mostly out of Tucson...her house is paid for....and she does ok off investments. If I were her...I wouldn't count on Vegas gigs anymore and would hope for some San Diego concerts ($5k for a concert).
