(excerpt from mid-article - click link for full article)

Stewart said she hadn't given much thought to what her life behind bars would be like when asked how she would handle prison food, fellow inmates and strip searches. "I could do it," she said. "I'm a really good camper. I can sleep on the ground. … There are many, many good people who have gone to prison … look at Nelson Mandela."

They went civil with the insider trading.

This was the criminal lie to the FBI case.

She still has to deal with the civil case.

Stewart was arrogant and gigantically stuuuuupid to speak with the FBI without a lawyer. The news reported that the FBI warned her not to talk to them because a lie would be prosecuted.

Democrats believe raising your right hand, so to speak, and lying is not a crime.

Democrats do not trust oaths.

They do not trust any judicial nominiee to comply with their oath of judicial office (if conservative) hence all the BS litmust test questions.

If this had been a republican man, the Democrat prostitutes would be having a bonfire of the vanities.

When her good friend Dominic Dunn was interviewed by ABC news this afternoon, he obviously didn't hear her comments outside the courtroom. He said in front of the judge she was moved more than he had seen in years and was very contrite and he was quite proud of her. I was embarrassed knowing he'd have egg on his face and tonight he began washing it off admitting that his friend did a Jeckel (sp?) Hyde once outside the courtroom and he was very disappointed. If she faces any jail time it won't be many many months.

Sheesh...if you lie to the FBI you get punished. She got the minimal sentence...she should be grateful for that.

She OUGHT to be kissing the hem of the judge's robe.

Sadly, she's not.

She is still the same self-centered, entiled b*tch she always has been.

She has no clue about personal responsability, and has no honor. She walks over people and abuses them, and when she gets caught doing a Wrong Thing, rather than suck it up and say, " I was wrong, I am sorry. What can I do to make it right?" , she whines and does a sales pitch.

Makes me wish we did public whippings.

I agree that was stupid.

The thing that freaks me out is that I am a software developer and sometimes really believe I remember what caused a problem in the code, something I would swear to, and then find out it was something different. In other words, I sometimes do not remember everything exactly as it happened.

To get me for lying would probably be easy for them, as they would just have to interview me twice. The first time would be what I thought it was, the second would be what it actually was after I investigated and found out what it was.

My question with regard to Martha would be is that what she remembered at the time and then was corrected once the facts were investigated or did she lie? I did not follow the case real close but the jury obviously thought she was lying.

would you or I put ourselves in a position to go to jail over a few thousand dollars?

You're assuming they caught her the only time she did something like that.

Fifty-thousand last month, seventy-thousand this month, forty-thousand the following month . . .

After a decade or two, you're talking serious money.

The very fact that such a small amount was involved inclines me to believe such goings on were routine for her.

Like those rich movie stars who get caught shoplifting $20 items--it wasn't the only time for them either.

I am so blamed sick and tired of her "Nobody could really believe I sold that stock to keep from losing $45,000."

That is so lame. Number one, her stock was worth several hundred thousand dollars. She had no way of knowing that the ultimate loss would have been only $45,000.

I owned some pharmaceutical shares not too long ago. I thought it was such a good opportunity that I had some $20,000 invested in them. 80% of my portfolio. What a stupid mistake.

The FDA denied their new drug, and the stock value dropped immediately from $10 per share down to a little over $1. That's a 90% loss. If Martha owned $350,000 worth of Imclone, with that kind of situation, she would have lost $315,000, being left with only $35,000.

The trouble is, she had no way of knowing whether the stock would have crashed big time like that, or just drop 15 to 20% or so.

The reason we use exact title is to avoid duplicate posts of the same article. Before I post an article, I do a quick search to see if it was already posted. It's a rule that really does make sense. It would be fine to put up the real title and give a comment in parentheses after it.

Mandela was caught with plans to government buildings in his possession. His intention was to blow up those buildings.

Mandela---a dyed in the wool Communist. Does anyone remember all the reasons he was jailed? Apparently NOT.
Martha is a joke. I really hope her "appeal" doesn't take long to get past and she gets into her new cell ASAP.

"I am surprised at the polarizing way she inficlts on people. You either love her or hate her."
Suprised you say? One opens themself up for said polarization and criticism when they themselves make their politics a part of public life - as Martha has done on many occasions. If you don't like the game, don't play.

If Ken Lay lies to the FBI about his involvement in the Enron mess and that's all they can end up nailing him with, 5 months in the slammer would be nowhere near restitution and punishment for the pain he's caused. Judges can give lenient sentences to the Stewarts of the world compared to the Lays, but I do believe a prison sentence was warranted for Martha.

The integrity of the stock market relies on a precarious set of rules, and if you break those rules or lie to investigators about breaking those rules, you must be punished.

but you are not raising your right hand.
you are not talking to the FBI.

The two inteviews would never happen if you had a lawyer. Even if they did, you would be briefed by the lawyer how to answer. (ie. I would have to read the exact code line, or I don't remember unless I see the code in front of me.) In essence assume nothing, not even the time of day.

Rumsfeld is excellent at answering questions.

Stewart was doing he, "I am the great and mighty OZ!!!" impression. She was exposed as a fool behind the curtain.

Actually, Fish Hawk, that might not be the best of comparisons - ImClone stock is trading @ $80-90 right now.

Haven't kept up with the overall run of the stock but it wasn't trading that high when this all broke open, was it? Also, the drug that was in question for approval and was initially denied, I believe, was eventually approved. That made the stock go up, I think.

As you can tell, I don't know dip about stocks...<8^/

She was a licensed stock broker on the Board of the NY Stock Exchange.
She knew what she was doing when she did it and was in the ultimate position of power and she did it anyway.

She was a pro who did that, she had to be held responsible.

Vertical stripes are more slimming...maybe she can whip up a new design over the next five months.

MS lives & breathes in another world so her chutzpah is not surprising. Will she be serving at a facility or is this a house arrest? She should get about a gazillion community service hours of service as part of her sentence...like maybe helping people who lost jobs or money because of her activities.

She can make s'mores over the campfire and have everyone tell their favorite ghost story - she'd probably call them "goblin tales."

We can think whatever we want about her financial doings, but I bet she could whip up a helluva good plate of s'mores!

"I spit Diet Coke from my nostrils"

OMG! Git rid of anything to do with Coke!!! Don't you realize that Coke is liberal Democrat and Pepsi is Republican/Conservative? For example: Edwards drinks four diet cokes before lunch!!!

I thought everybody knew the deep seated relationship between Coke and Demonicrats! Nixon and Barbara (oh what's that movie star's name), or maybe it was Joan Crawford got Pepsi into the Soviet Union with Henry Kissenger's help, but when Carter became POTUS, Armond Hammer helped him get Coke into the USSR and Pepsi was kicked out!!!

I'm not asking you to give up caffine, but snort some Diet Pepsi out yer nose instead of that leftist Coke... Puleeese!!! (snort)
