If this is true, it is very disturbing.

Let them know that we will nuke all the Arab capitals, and melt Mecca in return. If they want to play that game, we should promise them that we will turn the entire Islamic world into a parking lot.

Well, well. I wonder where they might have gotten them from?

There's only one problem with this assertion. If al Qaeda has the nukes here, why haven't they already used them? They gain nothing by delay, and nukes don't have an indefinite shelf life.
To: Nachum
I agree, we should let all the jihadist know that we have nukes in the region and can melt the whole area in under 10 minutes.

If Osama bin Laden had any mythical suitcase nukes, not to mention 80 of them, September 11, 2001 would have been a nuclear attack on the World Trade Center, but it wasn't.
What does that tell you?

an organization who needs to hijack the weapons they use, or whose technologiocal sophistication involves truck and suicide bombs, or who sent their dirty bomber Padilla to gather hospital waste for material - doesn't have 20 pre-positioned nuclear weapons. It just doesn't line up.

I agree, he would have used them on 9/11, but you never know what he could have acquired since then.

BS
If they had them in the US they would have used them.

If they had them, they would have used them already. For propagandist efforts, it would have been synchronized with some uprising in Iraq or some more spectacular terrorism incident in saudi sandpit. Besides, sitting on them for a long time would be dangerous, both for the custodial staff (small nuke would not have much shielding, so they would likely not enjoy robust health from the long contact and handling), and for the organization (risk of discovery, or the nukes deteriorating). So, IMHO, the story is BS.

...They gain nothing by delay,...Exactly. If you're Al Qaeda and your network is being decimated daily, your comrades are being questioned in Gitmo and elsewhere, how long do you think it will be before the Yanks find you or your nukes?
Logic would dictate that you use 'em before you lose 'em.

And if they really have nukes, why haven't they tested one? How can they be sure they will work? If the Russians, Americans, Chinese etc. must test theirs with all their technology, why not the mad mullahs?
If they really do, they are playing with extinction. There are unfortunately, precedents.

Several different threads about Williams and his book have been posted on FR in the last week or so.
It is interesting the number of post responses that say the guy is a kook and the threat is overblown (Sounds sort of like Kerry, doesn't it).
This is new:
Ridge claimed that U.S. intelligence believes terrorists already have smuggled into the U.S. actual atomic devices
That is frightening.

To: wagglebee
I'm not buying this. If Al-Qaeda has been able to obtain nukes post 9-11, then they certainly could have obtained nukes pre 9-11. In fact, it would have been
easier for them to obtain nuclear weapons pre 9-11 since the whole world had its guard down.
But if you were Al Qaeda and you had nukes on 9-11 why would you fool around with hijacked airliners? Wouldn't you just go for a knock-out blow with your nukes? Nope, the nuke story does not add up for me.
But I would be interested in other Freeper's thoughts on the matter.

well, everything else aside. the technology used to detonate the bomb dropped on hiroshima was not tested. it was the nagasaki bomb that was tested.
