He just announced this on Hardball; he said that Kerry told him this personally on the phone while they were discussing Reagan's appearance at the Democratic Convention that his first act in office if he's elected will be to sign an executive order to reverse Bush's stem cell policy.
See reply #62 for an explanation of his "preposterously unclear statement"
RON REAGAN: Well, we don't talk about politics all that much, particularly electoral politics. We talk about stem cell research, for instance, embryonic stem cell research, which she's (Nancy) very involved in and I think will continue to be very involved in.
This is something she takes very seriously, something I take very seriously, too. And it's shameful this administration has played politics with an issue that ... could be the biggest medical breakthrough in history. This could be bigger than antibiotics. This administration is pandering to the most ignorant segment of our society for votes and throwing up roadblocks to this sort of research. It's absolutely shameful.
I wonder why Ron Reagan doesn't put his money where his mouth is and fund his own research instead of asking the American people to pay for it?
And yet the liberals love the wastrel, Ron.
What is the deal with Novak getting all this inside information?
And what is the deal with Novak and Joe Wilson; you never hear HIS name anymore. He surely knows who told him! Why isn't he in jail for not devulging a source?
Don't we all...
REINSTATING THE GLOBAL GAG RULE
As one of his first actions in office, George Bush put in place the global gag rule, restricting international health care organizations from providing or even advising on the option of abortion, even in countries where choice is legal and even if the woman's life is in danger. This action would be unconstitutional in our own country and is unconscionable to impose on women and families around the world. In August 2003, the Bush Administration extends the Global Gag Rule to include the entire State Department budget.
First of all, I can figure out what his opinion IS.
And, secondly, don't they accuse Bush of forcing HIS religious views on people?
Don't email the Reagan Library about Ron Reagan - it isn't their fault. Go read Bob Novak's column - he talks about Buckley's response. Then go to MSNBC and email 'ol Ron himself. He works for them, now.
That's because he has good intentions. Accomplishments are meaningless.
It's already been mentioned a few times on this thread that the results of embryonic stem cell research have been "zero"-to-disasterous. Really, I wonder who the "most ignorant segment of our society" is.
I thought that the controversy was because Bush won't allow more embryonic "lines" (that might not be the correct term) to be opened up other than those that already are. Maybe the word is strains but that doesn't sound right either.
Regardless, I read that the major researchers say there is very little hope for any benefit from stemcell research for Alzheimers because too many nerves in the brain are destroyed by the disease. In fact the researchers say the likelihood of that is probably pretty much nil.
Ronny the ballerina just wants to bash Bush publically and he gets on the program due to the stem cell ruse. Typical lib, not letting the truth get in the way of a good story.
Prairie
No, Viagra-chomping Kerry's first act would be to bring back his girlfriend from exile in Europe.
And he'll mention Nancy's name every chance he can
Bush did not ban federal tax dollars from stem cell research. He put a ban on tax dollars funding new sources of embryonic stem cell. There is still stem cell research going in, including stem cell research with embryonic sources with government funds today.
I'm sure they'll have some explanation for that.
"Ronald Reagan's death from Alzheimer's disease Saturday has triggered an outpouring of support for human embryonic stem cell research. Building on comments made by Nancy Reagan last month, scores of senators on Monday called upon President Bush to loosen his restrictions on the controversial research, which requires the destruction of human embryos. Patient groups have also chimed in, and Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Tenn.) on Tuesday added his support for a policy review.
It is the kind of advocacy that researchers have craved for years, and none wants to slow its momentum.
But the infrequently voiced reality, stem cell experts confess, is that, of all the diseases that may someday be cured by embryonic stem cell treatments, Alzheimer's is among the least likely to benefit."
Rest of the article here.
So, one more reason to not vote for Kerry. He has pledged to issue an EO to reward Runt Reagan for coming to the convention. The reward is unlikely to benefit the cause Runt is advocating. So Kerry is corrupt and stupid.
Chris didn't ask him if MSNBC should yank him as a commentator..no paretisanship eh?..hey..time for an e-mail campaign to NBC?
Just another reasdon NOT to vote for Jean al Query!
Sure did! Just about an hour ago. Just explained the difference between embryonic stem cells and other stem cells. Says his brother is just being used by Kerry and the Rats to embarrass President Reagan and the Bush administration, and that the day after the election, he will be dropped by them. Said that Ron's hatred for Bush has allowed him to be used this way, unfortunately.
