Over the last few weeks, Sen. Kerry has had many more face-to-face meetings with potential picks than the press has reported.
One such meeting, several well-informed sources say, took place last Thursday night.
Kerry was in his home in Georgetown, and at around 10:30 pm, the last reporter staking him out -- someone from ABC News -- appeared to leave for the night.
Our sources say that Kerry and his Secret Service agents then went the very short distance to the nearby home of former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. Albright is a supporter of Kerry and has her office now in the same office building in Washington as the Kerry campaign.
At Albright's house late Thursday night, Kerry had a meeting with just a small group of people -- one of whom, our sources say, seemed to be the person Kerry at that moment planned to pick as his running mate.
Although Kerry said as recently as yesterday that he has not made a decision, our sources believe that this meeting might have served as the final face-to-face session the future running mates will have before announcement day, which could be as soon as this Tuesday.
Of the three potential picks whose advisers have confirmed have handed over reams of background information and believe themselves to be still in the running, there's only one we think was in DC that night -- Dick Gephardt. Tom Vilsack's staff says he was in Iowa and John Edwards, like many great Americans, was at Disney World with his family.
Other options -- Senator Joseph Biden, former Defense Secretary Bill Cohen, well, we are still checking to pin down where they were on Thursday night.
Of course, Senator Kerry could have changed whatever decision he might have made since last Thursday, and it is possible he has sent mixed signals (purposefully or not) to his advisers.
The Kerry campaign had no comment on this.

Gephardt is the logical choice since Kerry needs Big Labor to be passionate about his run, which they aren't now. If MO goes to Bush, Gephardt was a complete failure.
Fraud in St Louis, Chicago, and Philadelphia, and North Dakota needs to be addressed.
Gephardts 3rd District has been manufactured (gerrymandered) over the years to keep him in office. Even with that, he's never gotten over 60% of the vote I believe.
Up here in Northwest St. Louis County, we went from Todd Akins (good republican) 2nd District to Lacy Clays (bad democrat) 1st District because of Dick Gephardts re-districting plan. To bad none of the Republican Representatives fought this except Akin.

I'm kind of hoping too that it will be Gephardt. We all know that the St. Louis Post-Disgrace newspaper will be pulling big time for him and if/when Missouri goes for GWB in Nov. they'll be crying a river.
Also I'd like to see the picture of Gephardt talking to a St. Louis crowd with the Confederate Battle Flag behind him back in the 1970's that Pat Buchanans been holding on to. I'd like to see Dick squirm over that one.
Edwards is too green. I don't think people will be comfortable, in a time of global chaos, with a rookie a heartbeat away.
Gephardt is a natural to team with Kerry. They both are so energized -- can you imagine a debate? They could win just by putting the opponents to sleep!
Let me clarify that. Buchanan is holding on to a picture not the flag.

Being foreign-born, Mad Maddie is not eligible. Otherwise, I'm sure she would have been considered.
He could spend hours bantering with people in a Waffle House (not that anybody I know has ever done that).
Gephardt is about as interesting as a wet noodle. I hope Kerry picks him.

If it's Edward's it'll be a death sentence for him. Edwards is even more of a nobody than Kerry.
Okay, this seems as good a place as any to ask this question...
This afternoon, due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to watch the Amherst, MA 4th of July 'parade'. Besides the usual Socialists, peaceniks, etc., there were people marching IN the parade with Kerry signs, Rep. John Olver signs, etc. I saw no such signs for Republican candidates or Ralph Nader. So I'm standing there wondering if taxpayer money is being used to provide the security, etc. for this Kerry political rally disguised as a parade. Shouldn't Kerry money be paying for this?
I didn't have a camera, so I couldn't take any pictures. I'm not an Amherst resident, and this could end up a colossal waste of time on my part. But is this sort of thing allowed under election rules/laws? Who should I talk to?
No he couldn't. She was not born a US citizen.
