A California company has found a way to profit from the recent beheadings of Paul Johnson and Kim Sun-Il.
By providing material support for al-Qaeda and terrorism, traffic to their hosted sites has exploded exponentially. (Key provisions in the 'Patriot Act' against providing material support for terrorism w.r.t. the internet were nullified last month by a Federal Court in Idaho). Free web server companies obtain revenue through increased bandwidth.
The FBI has been contacted. A spokesperson for the FBI disputes alegations that the government is keeping the sites on online (perhaps for monitoring or tracking IP information, etc.).
"Did you know your services are being used as the official web page for the group that beheaded the American in Saudi? I would hope your company is smart to remove this site from your database."A Hosting Anime official initially thanked the individual for bringing fact that to his attention. When the site remained on line, another letter was written to Hosting Anime, (sic)
"This is ... pathetic. Delete it already. Block the freaking IP address. QUIT ALLOWING TERRORIST WEBSITES TO BE HOSTED ON YOUR SYSTEM FOR DAYS BEFORE YOU GET RID OF THEM. Block this IP, find all other ones, block them. You are American? Quit letting them spread their message unless you agree with what they do."He received a shocking response (http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176) from Hosting Anime.
"We will look into this manner when we have time, this is a free hosting company, and there are no profits being made, so that we can afford to sit and review all emails/abuse reports as this takes a large amount of time. Please give us time to get that done, in the mean time, please take the first amendment into consideration, free speech, just because you don't like the content of a site does that mean it should be shutdown? In response to a further complaint, the Hosting Anime System Administrator wrote, (http://forums.hostinganime.com/viewtopic.php?t=176),
"An email sent to me this morning I think is worth posting on the subject:
"Hey, screw those people that didn't like the site. They didn't have to go there to begin with, and whoever accused you of supporting terrorism has totally lost it. What about us who want to know why these people think the way they do and act the way they do ??? It's about communicating and I think it SUCKS that you cave to a few that would rather just throw a blanket over their head's and hope when they lift it off themselves, everything will be just fine. It makes me SICK !!'"As stated, we will take a look into this site and see what can be done in good time."
"Thank you for your additional comments on this matter, nothing can be done at this time, we will review the site and decide what is best.Jensen said the FBI has no power to force a company such as Hosting Anime to remove the images. "These are First Amendment rights issues and regardless of personal feelings we just cannot shut down a site based upon our personal dislike," he said. "People have a right to say what they like, even to the disdain of everyone else."
"If you have looked at some of our users web pages, you will see that there are no banners/pop ups on our users pages, that means no income. If you don't want me to use that excuse, what excuse would you like to hear? It's either I lie to you or tell you the truth, I have told you the truth, if you don't accept that, feel free to imagine whatever you would like."
The correct spelling is "grisly".
It has been awhile, good to see you are still at it.
The videos are on several websites.
I don't understand the problem.
They should be on the web for those who want to see the barbarism. Otherwise, we would never really know. The major media sure won't tell us. They won't even show Saddam and sons' tortures and mayhem.
The Internet has allot of garbage, but it also has the truth that the media hides.
Ooops, the spell checker couldn't catch that one. How embarassing -- it's already gone out to the wires too.
The videos are on several websites.I have no problem with those other sites. Maybe I need to make this point a little clearer. The difference is that these particular sites are really connected to al-Qaeda. The production of these sites is by GIM (GlobalIslamicMedia) which is directly connected to al-Zarqawi. They actually committed the beheadings, took the videos for the express purpose of putting it on the web and uploaded them to the HostingAnime sites first. Those other sites are just carrying copies. The people who uploaded the videos are accomplices to murder.
I don't understand the problem.
They should be on the web for those who want to see the barbarism. Otherwise, we would never really know. The major media sure won't tell us. They won't even show Saddam and sons' tortures and mayhem.I agree 100%! The media spent weeks offending our sensibilities and inflaming the Arab world with photos of abu-Ghraib -- yet they won't show attrocities committed against Americans & Koreans because it might offend our sensibilities and inflame US. It's all part of our media's lying spin machine.
The Internet has allot of garbage, but it also has the truth that the media hides.
Can you change the spelling in the title?
i find that forum link - discussion board on HostingAnime very interesting.
The logic for leaving these sites online are truly astounding.
So, how far does free speech go these days?
Thanks for posting this Mr. Galt.

On the other side of this argument, should be not be able to see the atrocities that Saddam committed on prisoners. If you have not seen this video, I think it is still up at GoGov.com. Saddam's crimes (scroll down the page, on the right next to photo of Saddam).
This is very chilling evidence of exactly the kind of horror Saddam inflicted. It should be seen. But warning, it is very, very graphic.
It figures.
Hey, I was also wondering what Grizzly Bears had to do with this......
The production of these sites is by GIM (GlobalIslamicMedia) which is directly connected to al-Zarqawi.
Note: as Johnathan states... the problem is not with the "other sites" hosting the beheading videos, but with the AL-QAEDA affiliated sites.
I think the public should SEE everything.
If the public had been able to see large doses of the torture of Saddam they would never have been duped into believing putting panties on a person's head, or making them strip was anything more than intimidation .. but it certainly was not TORTURE.
Please note, Mr. Galt has been duly chided for the "grizzly" misspelling.

I do too. I'm not asking for government censorship here. But I am upset that private individuals in the USA provides direct support for an al-Qaeda linked group.
There's a lot more to it than just the SNUFF videos. These sites are used for recruitment, for training, for extortion (shows they deliver on their threats so they will be taken seriously next time) and they also contain gigabytes of terrorism manuals.
Why isn't it called "SNUFF PORN" if it is done by terrorists? Think about the dichotomy for a few minutes: If some pervert had posted murder videos the police would be all over him. If terrorists post murder videos then their videos are protected speech.
We talked to the FBI -- the FBI tells us they aren't looking at the sites.
Johnathan
I think there needs to be emphasis in this discussion on what you have referred to in the past as "TOSSing". TOSSing starts with a respectful, polite and informative email to the host's abuse department re: the putative Terrorist Site listing the criteria for what determines a Terrorist Site and showing the host that the Site is involved in the conduct of Terrorism. Yes, the Site should be allowed to stay for a period of time for the downloading of 'research' but then it should be rapidly taken down the by the cancellation of their account based on violation of Terms of Service. This "TOSSing" bypasses the First Amendment argument which could not be avoided in the trial of Sami Al-Husseyn and it is the only method available, other than hacking, for the proactive shutdown of Terrorist Sites. However, citizens with 'research' interests need to work in synche with the 'TOSSers'. This is a rather sophisicated form of citizen vigilance developed by you and appreciated, I suspect, by both Republicans and Democrats like myself.

"Iraq Militants Claim Marine Beheading
By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer
BAGHDAD, Iraq - An Iraqi militant group claimed on a Web site Saturday it beheaded a captive U.S. Marine, in what would be the fourth decapitation of a foreign hostage in the region since May.
The group, called the Ansar al-Sunna Army, posted a written statement on an Islamic Web site claiming that it had killed Lebanese-born Cpl. Wassef Ali Hassoun, saying he had been lured into a trap involving a love affair with an Arab woman.
Also Saturday, insurgents set off a roadside bomb at an Iraqi checkpoint, killing seven national guardsmen in the deadliest attack on Iraqi troops since the U.S. occupation authorities transferred power to a new Iraqi government five days ago.
Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari said his country was in "a race against time" in dealing with insurgents. He said Iraqi troops "are not ready" to deal with the challenges alone.
About 160,000 foreign troops, mostly American, stayed after Monday's handover of sovereignty to the new interim government. NATO (news - web sites) leaders last week offered military training to the new Iraqi government.
In recent days, Jordan, Bahrain and Yemen have offered military help under certain conditions.
"These countries can support United Nations (news - web sites) operations and play a central and effective role," Zebari said.
The U.S. military in Baghdad said it was checking into the report of the 24-year-old Hassoun's death but had no confirmation.
It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the group's statement.
"We would like to inform you that the Marine of Lebanese origin, Hassoun, has been slaughtered. You are going to see the video with your very eyes soon," said the statement, signed in the name of the group's leader, Abu Abdullah al-Hassan bin Mahmoud.
It also said it had taken another hostage but did not give details.
The group called itself the Ansar al-Sunna Army in Qaim, a town on the Syrian border that has seen frequent clashes between U.S. troops and militants. The message was dated June 20, the day the military said Hassoun, of West Jordan, Utah, was first reported missing though the posting was dated Saturday.
"We will show a new video of the detention of a new infidel hostage and as recently promised, the beheading of rotten heads," the statement said.
"Withdraw your army and you will be safe. Or else we will keep doing what we are doing."
On June 27, the Arab television station Al-Jazeera broadcast a videotape showing Hassoun blindfolded, along with a statement from militants threatening to kill him unless the United States released all Iraqis in "occupation jails."
In that initial statement, the kidnappers identified themselves as "Islamic Response," the security wing of the "National Islamic Resistance - 1920 Revolution Brigades," referring to the uprising against the British after World War I.
Saturday's claim on Hassoun's death was issued on the same Islamic extremist Web forum where footage was posted last month showing the beheading of U.S. engineer Paul M. Johnson Jr., in Saudi Arabia. The site also often carries claims of attacks by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a Jordanian militant said to be operating in Iraq (news - web sites).
Al-Zarqawi's movement claimed responsibility for the beheading last month of Kim Sun-il, a South Korean who worked for a company delivering supplies to American forces, and Nicholas Berg, an American businessman, whose body was found in Baghdad in May. Johnson's slaying was claimed by al-Qaida-linked militants in Saudi Arabia, and pictures of his severed head were posted on the Internet.
Another militant group in Iraq claimed last week that it had killed Spc. Keith M. Maupin, of Batavia, Ohio, an American soldier held captive since April. The military has not yet confirmed that it was Maupin who was shown in grainy video footage of a man being shot in the back of the head.
In Saturday's statement, the militants said they used a woman to trap Hassoun.
"As your soldier had a love affair with a young Arab woman, he has been lured from the base," the statement said.
The U.S. military said Hassoun had been absent without authorization since June 20, though after the video was shown it changed his status to "captured."
The New York Times, citing a Marine officer speaking on condition of anonymity, has reported that Hassoun had been traumatized by seeing one of his sergeants killed by a mortar, and was trying to make his way back to Lebanon. The officer told the paper that Hassoun sought the help of Iraqis on the base, was betrayed by them and handed over the extremists.
Hassoun's eldest brother, Mohammad, who lives in a Salt Lake City suburb, denied the report. The Marine's relatives were in seclusion at their Utah home after the Web site posting Saturday.
Ansar al-Sunna Army claimed responsibility for the twin suicide attacks on the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party offices in Irbil on Feb. 1 that killed 109 people. .."
