Current Political parties try to be all things to all people and end up being nothing to anyone. The differences between the two major parties are essentially those of scope and detail.
A new party may be the answer, but only if it is unlike the others in essence.
No more than six simple planks in the entire platform. Narrow in focus, leaving individual candidates to have differing positions on all issue which are not covered in the six.
Keeping it simple, working 24/7 to enact the narrow goals. Any candidate who wavers would be repudiated.
TOPICS: Government; Miscellaneous; Philosophy; Politics/Elections; Your Opinion/Questions

A simple idea, a concept as a work in progress. Comments welcome. My six.
Privatize Social Security
Abolish the Income tax
Defend the borders
Strong Military & Intelligence
Return responsibility to the States
On all other issues, all private approaches should be completely exhasted before any government approach is contemplated
NOTHING ELSE............NOTHING

Doesn't the RLC already encompass all of those?

I think you might need 7 planks. Otherwise, I don't see anything else I would change.

Eliminate SS. There is no provision in the Constitution that allows the government to force anyone to "save" for their retirement. Return to a constitutional government by the elimination of all government spending not specifically authorized by the Constitution.
Term limits for politicians.
Eliminate the power of activist judges. Get the Congress to enforce the part of the Constitution that allows them to regulate what the Supreme Court may hear. (Article 3, Section 2, Clause 2). The Supreme Court was NEVER meant to be the final arbitor of the Constitution.

Reaffirm/defend/return to the the true meaning of the Constitution & BOR.Sure, and who gets to define that?
Sorry, that gets into just what the other parties do. Pages and pages to define it.
Six only. One sheet of paper. Simple, or not at all.

Doesn't the RLC already encompass all of those?Perhaps, but they have many many more I suspect. This is SIX, not this six and more, just six. That's the whole idea.

And the party would be REALISTIC. Not a debating society or a wish list. SS isn't going away as much as I want it to.

As some one who was formerly active in a third party our system will not allow them any access to power. Our only hope is to take over one or maybe both of the two exiting parties. With the support of just 5% of the population it is possible to have a large influence within either of the two parties. 5% would garner nothing as a third party but because very few people get really active in the current political parties 5% can have a large influence.

You are about to learn the old political adage of "herding cats". I wouldn't be learning anything, I already know about that old time saying.
Six means you are on board or you aren't. No herding is necessary.

I disagree because this has never been tried.
Perhaps this idea would garner 50% or more.

I like your six.
The part about getting out of the U.N. could fall under the "Defend Borders" plank.

As some one who was formerly active in a third party our system will not allow them any access to power. Runoff elections at all levels will allow a viable 3rd party to attain power over time. They would also have prevented the 1992 national disaster.

Inlist Zole Miller to start "REFORMED DEMOCRATIC PARTY".
To: Protagoras
First the Dem party goes down in flames--it has moved leftward and the extent to which it has marginalized itself will not be evident until the election is in full swing.
Then the GOP splits along liberal and conservative lines. Bush will try to hold it together from the middle, but the division is too srong. It is only the presence of the radical Dems that hold it together now.

The name of the Party and the personalities involved are open. All they would have to do is sign on to these six and have them as their main focus.
Of course I prefer, THE PROTAGORAS PARTY,, but then again........:^}

Runoff elections are a good idea. I don't know if they would be part of my six, but they are helpful as far as I can see.
