OCALA - A newly married 23 year old teacher pursues a 14 year old and for the second time that has resulted in an arrest decides to have sex with him.
According to news reports, Debra Lafave, went from her home just northeast of Tampa to Ocala Florida to have sex with the 14 year old. All of this while the 14 year old's cousin of 15 drove them around.
Lafave is a reading instructor at a junior high school. According to the cousin, Lafave pursued it partly because "it was illegal".
She has recently secured a new attorney, has turned herself in, and is on leave from her teaching job for the time being.
But in the recent wedding photos of the woman - one would think she was the happiest most content soul on earth.

Nice try, but it fails to cast sufficent doubt on what this woman has done.
I'll just note her husband isn't anywhere near a camera defending her "honor", and that I doubt in an election year the local DA is going to make a "spurious" charge on a topic like this.

Actually, on the news this morning there was a clip of her and her lawyer walking either in or out of court and a person identified as her husband was nearby. I suspect that the attorney has told both to clam up and keep a low profile.
and that I doubt in an election year the local DA is going to make a "spurious" charge on a topic like this.
I don't think at this point in time the charges are based upon a "prosecutors information," or grand jury indictment, but rather, they are based upon criminal complaint filed by the investigating LEO. However, I am not licensed to practic in Florida, so don't qoute me on the procedure.
Lastly, she may very well be guilty of the charges against her. I am not, however, ready to convict her based upon the statements alone of two teenage boys whose overactive hormones could very well cause dillusions of grandeur, distortions of reality, and a lot of wishful thinking. Also -- and this is important from my mindset -- I lived in the Hudson Valley during the entire Tawana Brawly thing (I've know several of the cast of characters for many years) -- and have seen the damage that a teenage liar can do and how the lies seem to take on a life of their own.

No, I don't. I've read the police reports, I've read what the two children involved have to say, I've noted the various timelines that match, and the credit card receipts.
And I've seen this woman's haunted look.
Smart money is she pleads no contest, or enters into a plea bargain agreement. Watch and see.

You may very well be right. But I also saw the haunted look on Steve Pagones's face when he was wrongfully accused of raping Tawana Brawly. The credit card receipts mean only that she used her credit card and the boys may have been present or saw the receipt, neither of which is a crime. Again, you could be right, and she may be guilty as can be, but I'm not willing to assume her guilt based upon the unsworn testimony of teenage boys.
I guess this 14 year old boy found this teacher "simply irresistible" (sorry, I had to).

I've met Pagones. There is no comparision between the two.
There was never any cooroborating evidence to support Brawly or Shaprton's claims. In this case, there is a ton of collabortating evidence, from credit card receipts to cell phone records, to eye witness testimony beyond the cousin directly involved.
Watch, this woman will enter a plea bargain agreement in fairly short order. The last thing in the world the defense will suggest is a court fight.

Better question is who told her to wear that outfit? Under the circumstances, I would think she would have been a bit more conservative in her pick of outfit.
