Iran seeks swap of Brits for suicide attackers

Report says 40 Revolutionary Guard 'volunteers' held by UK

Iran apprehended British military personnel and Navy vessels earlier this week in order to secure release of 40 "suicide operations volunteers" held by the UK, according to an Iranian Revolutionary Guard source.

The source told the London Arabic-language daily Al-Sharq Al-Awsat that the British Army command in Iraq received the demand from the Revolutionary Guard, reported the Middle East Media Research Institute.

According to the source, the content of the message was very simple: "Release our comrades, whom you are holding, and we will release your soldiers."

What do you guys and gals think of this Internet attack that is currently underway. I've seen reports that this attack is going after financial data.

Could it be 'phase 1' of a multiple phase attack? Should we except violent attacks to start shortly?

Man Allegedly Tried To Board DC Flight With Weapons

POSTED: 11:27 pm PDT June 24, 2004
UPDATED: 11:50 am PDT June 25, 2004

COSTA MESA, Calif. -- A man was arrested at an Orange County airport after he allegedly tried to board a flight with a loaded gun and a knife in his carry-on bag, authorities said.

"We have no reason to believe this is terrorism-related, but there's going to be an ongoing investigation," sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said.

Still, a joint terrorism task force that includes the FBI was investigating.

The 65-year-old man, whose name was not immediately released, was arrested at John Wayne Airport on Thursday as he tried to go through a security checkpoint to take a 2 p.m. United Airlines flight heading to Chicago and Washington, D.C., authorities said.

A federal transportation inspector noticed the weapons during a routine X-ray of his bag, sheriff's Lt. Hayward Miller said.

The man was booked at the county Men's Central Jail for investigation of possessing a loaded gun and attempting to carry a loaded gun into a secure area of the airport.

this is strange, I put wayne airport into google news search and the following came up:

FBI Questions Man Caught With Gun, Knife At Airport
NBC4.TV, CA - 12 hours ago
COSTA MESA, Calif. -- Late Thursday, the FBI was questioning a 65-year-old man of Middle Eastern descent who was arrested at John Wayne Airport Thursday for ...

Then if you click it it does say anything about him being middle eastern like they were told to take that part out of the story. Why? So no one gets frightened or it's racist? How many times does this happen?

It's not "terror related" but the Joint Terrorism Task Force thought they'd investigate it anyway.

Calpernia,

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU.
I cybersurf all types of interesting sites, but when it comes to children injured, children dressed as jihadis, children with simulated bomb belts, children holding guns with jihad outfits on...etc, I feel absolutely outraged and feel so sorry for those children.

Here's another link to a very similar website but is free. It starts at the beginning of Ben Hur's posts and is interesting, to say the least.

He's a scammer, in my opinion.

That is supposedly just one of at least 2 reserves we have equal to the oil in Saudi Arabia.

And that doesn't count the replenishing phenomena recently reported in the Gulf of Mexico.

ONLINE POSTINGS CARRY HIDDEN CLUES

By Anick Jesdanun
The Associated Press
6/25/04 1:29 PM

NEW YORK (AP) -- With basic tools and skills, Internet sleuths can learn much from Web sites and online discussion boards beyond what terror groups and their sympathizers may be saying in the open.

All computers on the Internet have a unique identification number known as the Internet Protocol, or IP, address. By determining the IP address for the computer used to post a message, image or video, investigators may be able to track down a suspect.

First, an online gumshoe would go to the company that hosts the forum where a message appears. Records there should show the IP address associated with each request for each Web page, said Richard M. Smith, a security consultant in Cambridge, Mass.

Once investigators figure out the poster's IP address, they can check public databases to determine to whom, usually an Internet service provider, that address had been assigned.

The ISP may know the customer who used the address at a particular time and have credit card, address or phone information on that customer.

If the IP address belongs to a university or a business, officials there may have additional information about its students or employees. If it traces to a cybercafe, its owner may have customer records. At minimum, investigators can narrow the location.

In the case of slain Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, investigators traced e-mails sent by his kidnappers to a service provider in an apartment complex in Karachi.

Investigators then asked each subscriber to retrieve their e-mails, and copies of the kidnappers' messages turned up on the laptop of one subscriber, who was then arrested and later convicted.

Jimmy Doyle, a former computer crimes investigator with the New York Police Department, listed a few tools he considers part of Computer Crime Investigator 101:

--Tracerouting, a technique for tracing the path taken by e-mail, Web traffic and other data. Investigators may know the IP address of a Web site; tracerouting helps investigators locate companies providing hosting and other support services.

--Whois databases, which store records on domain names and IP addresses. These records are generally publicly accessible.

Doyle, now director of professional services for Guidance Software Inc., said his company's product, Encase, can also help recover deleted files. Let's say a posting is traced back to a cybercafe or a university. Encase and competitors' products can help recover bits from computers there for additional clues.

Smith said clues can also come from the makeup of Web sites and video posted.

Sophisticated users try to cover their track.

"The problem is that there are so many little ways you have to cover yourself," Smith said, "you could slip up."

No need to duck :-)
This girl, named Oorang, is actually quite fond of my Oorang Airedale dog, named Strider. Oorang (pronounced Oo, rhymes with you, - rang) Airedales are the largest breed of Airedale terriers, usually 75 - 90 pounds. They were developed during WWI as messenger dogs. Due to their supposed high intelligence (yeah, right) and great swimming abilities they were found to be great delivery dogs (of written messages) over long distances. Or so the story goes.

This is why I find the name suspect, but, I suppose it could be a common Jewish name.
