Nader picks Peter Camejo of Green Party as running mate; Dems on suicide watch

WASHINGTON - Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader (news - web sites) selected longtime Green Party activist Peter Camejo (news - web sites) to be his running mate on Monday, a move sure to boost his chances of winning the Green Party's endorsement this week and its access to ballot lines in 22 states and the District of Columbia.

Camejo, an investment adviser from Folsom, Calif., had been one of two leading contenders for the Green Party's presidential nomination.

The announcement came in advance of the Green Party convention beginning Wednesday in Milwaukee. Nader, who ran as the Green Party candidate in 2000, is not seeking the party's nomination but he has pursued an endorsement from the third party.

"Camejo shares my concerns for economic and social justice as well as the urgent need to protect our environment," Nader said in a statement before introducing him at an afternoon news conference.

One Green Party leader said a Nader-Camejo ticket would have a very strong chance of winning the party's endorsement.

"This is an opportunity for Nader to make an overture to the party membership," said Ben Manski, one of five co-chairs of the Green Party. "I think it certainly would put him much more in the running but not a guarantee."

Nader also has been endorsed by the national Reform Party, which gives him access to the ballot in at least seven states, including the battlegrounds of Florida and Michigan.

Excellent news. I'm telling all my liberal friends how Nader is the only credible progressive candidate and that they all ought to get out and vote for him, even the dead ones.

Now if Nader just changes his name to "John G. Kerry" to be higher on the ballot, I think they have a shot.

Nice little item at the end too:

LOL!

This worm is an "investment advisor?" And he is in the GREEN PARTY? HAHA! How funny is THAT! Oh, I know, he lives in the woods in an RV. Kinda like cousin Earl's CPS did!

Camejo is notorious for whining about how hard it was for his girlfriend to get an abortion in the days before Roe v. Wade. But if she hadn't, he adds, he could never have become a great champion of the defenseless.

Nader is pro-gay marriage, anti-NAFTA, and against drilling for oil in the ANWR.

How can any leftist choose to vote for Senator Kerry (voted "Aye" for NAFTA, claims he's against gay marriage, and told Hoffa that he wants to drill Alaska like a cheap whore)?!

Food for thought: Would you trust your money to a Green Party presidential-candidate investment banker?

Camejo has a lot of nutty ideas, but in the debate for California's governor's debate I was surprised at how articulate he was. And he actually seemed like a nice guy, rather than someone who is perpetually angry like these Move-on.org types.

You know that the Greens / Independents aren't a viable third when Cynthia McKinney doesn't want to be represented by such a fine, upstanding political organization - link

Is it just me, or does this seem like a completely meaningless distinction?
