Maybe he will grow up someday -- people grow up at different times.

...I am rewatching the service (3rd time) and the Congregation is singing (cannot remember the name of the song). Pattie is singing with her Mom and Ron is standing there not singing at all...

Neither was his wife. It's obvious he is an atheist; at least he's not a hypocritical one.

I was struck all week with his seeming aloofness. Patti is right there through all the ceremonies, comforting and holding their mother's hand. I've hardly seen Ron near Mrs. Reagan at all, which struck me as odd. After all, being her son, you'd think he'd be right there assuming the "man of the family" role.

That's my take too. Didn't help that doctors said using the stem cells would have helped his Dad when others say there are better alternatives today.

Maybe if Ron wasn't so estranged from his Dad before he became ill, he would have reacted differently.

"Well if there's any doubt in anyone's mind what the comment was intended to do...looks like we'll get a chance to see a replay of it on Fox."

well, he does bear down on the word 'mandate'. Sadly, Ron has made much of his dislike for President Bush and his politics/policies. . .

Wondering where Patty now falls on the political spectrum. Too bad with the parents/kids. . .eventually becomes a chicken/egg; but since Ron and Patty - childhood problems notwithstanding - hated much of their Father's politics ; I can see where Nancy would be a even greater welcome and singular refuge. . .

That struck me odd as well. I would have thought she would have set inbetween the two but she didn't. I don't remember seeing his wife one time dab at her eyes. Michael's wife was the one in tears.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotions. This has been a tremendous week of remembrance, but the passing of Ronald Reagan is like the passing of an era, and I wonder what the next era of our history will be like. I was moved to tears by the words today of Margaret Thatcher and Brian Mulroney. Not just because their words were so heart-felt and gracious, but began to realize what great leaders the west had during the '80s. Those leaders are growing old, and we're losing them. And I can't help but feel the light is fading a bit in our world. Were it not for George W. Bush, and Tony Blair, this would be a dark world for sure. With Ronald Reagan's passage, the torch has really been passed on to us. I hope we're up to the task.

Not only that, but put up the memorials of this past week against the Wellstone memorial in 2002. There's a shocking contrast. One answer to Chris Matthews question is that Democrats have no soul, and hence, not one shread of decency.

Having the Captain of the USS Ronald Reagan present the flag
to Nancy was such a wonderful touch; it turns out that it
is the flag that was flying on the Reagan when the former
president passed away.

will are recapturing it, and this week is a great part of it.........

God in His providence put Ronald Reagan in the Presidency at precisely the right moment of history. And, I have a sense that He took Ronald Reagan home at precisely the right moment of history, to remind this nation, or to introduce a new generation of young Americans, the importance of great leadership, and the importance of conviction.

To: TN4Liberty; GRRRRR
Two different hymns. The one you liked, GRRRR is titled Jesus Savior, Pilot Me. The words are:
Jesus, Savior, pilot me
Over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll,
Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

While th’Apostles’ fragile bark
Struggled with the billows dark,
On the stormy Galilee,
Thou didst walk upon the sea;
And when they beheld Thy form,
Safe they glided through the storm.

Though the sea be smooth and bright,
Sparkling with the stars of night,
And my ship’s path be ablaze
With the light of halcyon days,
Still I know my need of Thee;
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When the darkling heavens frown,
And the wrathful winds come down,
And the fierce waves, tossed on high,
Lash themselves against the sky,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me,
Over life’s tempestuous sea.

As a mother stills her child,
Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
Boisterous waves obey Thy will,
When Thou sayest to them, “Be still!”
Wondrous Sovereign of the sea,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore,
And the fearful breakers roar
’Twixt me and the peaceful rest,
Then, while leaning on Thy breast,
May I hear Thee say to me,
“Fear not, I will pilot thee.”

TN4Liberty: The words you posted were from Rock of Ages The words for that are:
Rock of ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee;
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy riven side which flowed
Be of sin the double cure,
Cleanse me from its guilt and power.

Not the labor of my hands
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears forever flow,
All for sin could not atone,
Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to Thy cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace;
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

Whilst I draw this fleeting breath,
When my eyestrings break in death;
When I soar through tracts unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgment throne,
Rock of ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.

It's synchronicity, or something :), that you should mention the words for Rock of Ages, TN4Liberty. Whenever I had a choice in selecting music to go together during Worship, and it was a memorial type service, I'd select the both of these together; I've always felt they belong together.

Both of the hymns have interesting histories -- follow the links. Very interesting.

I had to leave, due to prior committments, and am now watching the Simi Service on CSPAN stream, and reading through this thread. I felt I should clarify the identification I made of the hymn -- I did not have time to do it before.

CSPAN said they are going to re-broadcast the Simi Interment Service on Saturday but I wanted to get this out here before the thread is closed. Very tired -- sorry for any typos.

It's weird, the middle position. Some people want to support his stance, and others want to support his right to say his peace.

To do the latter, he has to continue to be a kid in the face of the tragedy that's been ongoing for ten years. Acting like a kid is at the expense of being a man, by definition. But, it's not necessarily his doing.

There's grace to be found in lots of places. I believe that God allows us to draw our own conclusions in life.

One last addendum .. sorry. Rock of Ages was played when the Hearse was pulling up to the Library, shortly before they sang America again.

I'll be quiet now and watch the rest of this which I didn't see live, and read the thread along with it.

I had heard Clinton fell asleep. Does anyone have a pic to share. Lordy was a classless act those two are. As far as Barbara Bush hitting them over the head with her purse...things we would pay to see. :)
