Neither was his wife. It's obvious he is an atheist; at least he's not a hypocritical one.
I was struck all week with his seeming aloofness. Patti is right there through all the ceremonies, comforting and holding their mother's hand. I've hardly seen Ron near Mrs. Reagan at all, which struck me as odd. After all, being her son, you'd think he'd be right there assuming the "man of the family" role.

That's my take too. Didn't help that doctors said using the stem cells would have helped his Dad when others say there are better alternatives today.
Maybe if Ron wasn't so estranged from his Dad before he became ill, he would have reacted differently.
well, he does bear down on the word 'mandate'. Sadly, Ron has made much of his dislike for President Bush and his politics/policies. . .
Wondering where Patty now falls on the political spectrum. Too bad with the parents/kids. . .eventually becomes a chicken/egg; but since Ron and Patty - childhood problems notwithstanding - hated much of their Father's politics ; I can see where Nancy would be a even greater welcome and singular refuge. . .
That struck me odd as well. I would have thought she would have set inbetween the two but she didn't. I don't remember seeing his wife one time dab at her eyes. Michael's wife was the one in tears.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and emotions. This has been a tremendous week of remembrance, but the passing of Ronald Reagan is like the passing of an era, and I wonder what the next era of our history will be like. I was moved to tears by the words today of Margaret Thatcher and Brian Mulroney. Not just because their words were so heart-felt and gracious, but began to realize what great leaders the west had during the '80s. Those leaders are growing old, and we're losing them. And I can't help but feel the light is fading a bit in our world. Were it not for George W. Bush, and Tony Blair, this would be a dark world for sure. With Ronald Reagan's passage, the torch has really been passed on to us. I hope we're up to the task.
Not only that, but put up the memorials of this past week against the Wellstone memorial in 2002. There's a shocking contrast. One answer to Chris Matthews question is that Democrats have no soul, and hence, not one shread of decency.

It's synchronicity, or something :), that you should mention the words for Rock of Ages, TN4Liberty. Whenever I had a choice in selecting music to go together during Worship, and it was a memorial type service, I'd select the both of these together; I've always felt they belong together.

It's weird, the middle position. Some people want to support his stance, and others want to support his right to say his peace.
To do the latter, he has to continue to be a kid in the face of the tragedy that's been ongoing for ten years. Acting like a kid is at the expense of being a man, by definition. But, it's not necessarily his doing.
There's grace to be found in lots of places. I believe that God allows us to draw our own conclusions in life.
I'll be quiet now and watch the rest of this which I didn't see live, and read the thread along with it.
