A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day....06-09-04....Let Us Have MUSIC
Billie

A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Let it be known that today, Wednesday, the 9th of June, 2004, is hereby declared Music Day at the Finest, and you may B.Y.O.M. or click on mine. I hope you dance, if you are so inclined; sing along, if the music moves you. Clap your hands, snap your fingers, tap your toes.....but whatever you do, don't just sit there - move *something*!

A brief note: most of the links are midi files, because they load and play quicker, though there are some wave files - several are full-length, beautiful songs for you to enjoy; some are clips to give you just a taste.

Now playing, in no particular order ...

Classical

1812 Overture
Trumpet Voluntary
Ave Maria
Fur Elise

Irish Love Songs

I'm going to linger here for a while. Sigh.... see you on down the thread a bit later. :) These lilting, Irish Love Songs are sung by John Gary.

Danny Boy
My Wild Irish Rose
Kathleen Mavourneen
I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen
Once Upon A Time
Softly As I Leave You
This Is All I Ask

The following song is dedicated to a certain Irishman (and sometimes wolfie), because it holds a very special place in his heart....right next to his mom.

The Last Rose Of Summer (midi file)

by Thomas Moore (Arr. Frank Gallagher)

Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone,
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone.
No flow'r of her kindred
No rosebud is nigh
To reflect back her blushes,
Or give sigh for sigh.

I'll not leave thee, thou lone one,
To pine on the stern,
Since the lovely are sleeping,
Go, sleep thou with them

Thus kindly I'll scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.

So soon may I follow
When friendships decay;
And from love's shining circle
The gems drop away
When true hearts lie wither'd
And fond ones are flow'n
Oh! Who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

Oldies But Goodies

Paul McCartney George Harrison Ringo Starr John Lennon

Yesterday
Hey Jude
Life Goes On (Obladi Oblada)

And I Love Her
Let It Be

Is any music thread complete without Elvis? He is The King, a Legend, and his music lives on.

Are You Lonesome Tonight?
Don't Be Cruel
Jailhouse Rock
Loving You
I Want You, I Need You, I Love You
Love Me Tender
You Ain't Nothing But A Hounddog

Country & Western

Real old stuff, real 'old' guys :) - Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich, Waylon Jennings, George Strait, George Jones, Glen Campbell, Roy Orbison, and more....

There I Said It Again
When The Lights Go On Again
That's My Desire
The Boys In The Back Room
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
You Belong To Me

Cajun & Nu Aw'leens

Louisiana has it's own brand of music, which I find colorful and jazzy; but most of all, I find whenever I listen to it I just *gotta* tap my toes!

Jambalaya
Don't Worry, Be Happy
Jolie Blonde
Don't Mess With My Toot Toot
Alexander's Ragtime Band
City Of New Orleans
When The Saints Go Marching In
Yakety Sax

Divas

Bette Midler, Celine Dion, Diana Ross....there's no mistaking these three are Divas who take command of the stage and hold their audience captive from the first note to the last. I hope you enjoy these three full-length songs I've chosen.

Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler)
When I Fall In Love (Celine Dion Duet)
The Best Years Of My Life (Diana Ross)

Easy Listening

Easy on the ears... sit back, relax, and let the music take you away.:)

Blue
True Love Ways
Thanks For The Memories
My Heart Will Go On
I Will Always Love You
Argentina
Tiny Bubbles
Saved The Best For Last

Taps

We've all been thinking of President Reagan, and his family, and reflecting on the many wonderful things he did for our country during his two terms in the White House. I'd like to dedicate the last two groups of music to his memory.

To the Gipper, with great fondness, tremendous respect, and deep admiration.

And God Bless You! Thank you for listening. Most of the links are uploaded to my server; a few of the others might change sometime in the future, but for now they all work. Hope you will enjoy the music and keep coming back throughout the day!

Whatta great thread, Billie ... )
The Last Rose of Summer is just beautiful.

I just spent a little time in a futile effort create a music file small enough to upload, but can't seem to figure out how to make an MP3 ... I think I need some new sound software.

Well, I just liked everything you said so much I didn't know what to 'address'. I'm glad you arrived before the day was over, and I think there are still a few doing the last tango anyway. :)

I wouldn't have a clue how to make an MP3 - the file sizes are HUGE anyway! I felt like the few wave files I linked were manageable enough for everyone - I just get weary waiting for an MP3 to load - it seems to buffer forever and a day for me, but the waves are better - and I guess unless your speaker system on your PC is really sophisticated, there's probably no difference in the sound quality. I just enjoy music - even the midis are pretty cool.

Thanks always for your words of appreciation and the encouragement you give all of us to hold our Finest Family together.

I think I hear a foxtrot coming up - better get out there and swish that tail. :)

*clears throat* *shyly* not all the girls...my dance card is still totally empty. Guess it's because my dance partner is in the big sandbox. Or perhaps because I haven't really been introduced to the seemingly handsome wolf.

How could you have missed meeting the seemingly handsome wolf? :) Or more to the point, how did he let you get in and out of here without hitting you up for a hug? :)

mrstank, may I introduce you to ST.LOUIE1, akaa wolfie. (that would stand for "also known affectionately as") :)

I just heard the instrumental version opf one of my favoriet hymns. and I want to post the lyrics here as I can remember them. This is in honor of President Ronald Wilsom Reagan and most especially to Nancy Reagan.

Let there be peace on Earth! Let this be the moment now! Let peace begin with me, let this be my solemn vow! To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally!

Let ther be peace on earth! Let this be the moment now! With God as our Father! Brothers all are we Let me walk with my brother in perfect harmony! Let peace begin with me let this be the moment now.

Amen.

That is all that I can remember.

Good night! and may God bless you all and may God bless America!

Well, Billie .... what did you think of the Texas 5-step by me and my Bro?

LOL! Too cute! And I've GOT to quit pinging your bro, cause his paws are worn out but he's too polite not to answer, and then I have to answer his answer, which he answers again.

See, I usually give up before he does, but today I told him he'd cry "Uncle" before I do! (I think he did!)

But I pinged him anyway! LOL!
