Controversy develops over Reagan funeral speakers...
'President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was,' a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. 'He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet'...
CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST
Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."
The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.
Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.
Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.
"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.
Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.
The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

I just got to this thread and have not read thru it all, so maybe this has been said, but . . .
Why in the he** would Nancy want Clintoon to speak at her husband's funeral???? Nancy and Ronald had a loving, faithful, supportive marriage.
Nancy spent the last 10 years caring for her dear husband, who didn't even recognize her for at least part of that time.
We all know what Clintoon did in the WH, in the Oval Office, and who knows where else, with someone other than his wife, and lied about it. He and Hellary didn't even spend their 25th annive. together. Do you think either one of them would take care of the other if they had so much as a cold?
Pres. REagan stood for all the things Clinton made a mockery of. I can't believe he's such an a**. Wait a minute--yes, I can. And Kerry too. They make me sick.
Did any of the Bush family attend Maureen Reagan's funeral?
You're welcome.
If Kerry were President, Saddam would still be in power, the bribes would still be flowing to the U.N. criminals, and the Taliban would just be leaving Camp David, with their take. Kerry's foreign policy is to cast pearls before swine.!!
You nailed it.
Don't hold your breath, Bubba.
Somebody call the WAHHHMMMMbulance!
that meathead.
Sure they can, if some former Presidents were better friends than others. It's the Reagan family's call. They can do whatever they want.
Do you have a link on that thread OV?

First post on FR, huh?
With my nick, I didn't think I'd be welcome:) I did want to make the point that no one from the Bush family attended Maureen's funeral. I'm sure Nancy noticed.
Thanks for the welcome.
President Reagan so repected the office of the President that her never removed his suit coat while in the oval office.
X-42 created the slang "oral office".
'Nuff said.
This is interesting. Is this shaping up to be a Paul Wellstone type event? I think it would be extremely ill-advised for some to make this an event along the lines of "Reagan was ours, not yours so butt out". Just as Wellstone had many friends on both sides of the aisle that respected him if, for no other reason, the conviction of his principles and that he represented all of Minnesota. On a larger scale, Reagan was president for all Americans. Similarly, Nixon was president to all Americans and his funeral was truely non-partisan. There were some lessons to be learned from the Wellstone memorial for both sides. Both sides disregard those lessons at their own political peril

I think when he took office, GW should have invited Bill and Hillary into the Oval Office. They would be greeted by GW and his entire protection unit. Exchange pleasantries, ask them to look around the place one last time and then instruct the protection detail that:
"If these two CLYMERS show their ugly faces anywhere on the grounds except as part of a public tour they're to be shot on sight with a 'banned' assault weapon!"
Then tell them to get their bony A$$E$ out of that place of Honor, they're stinkin' it up.
~sigh~ Woulda shoulda coulda.
From where I sit, your point is....redundant, for lack of better word. What possible comparison is there for attendance at the funeral of a two-term President of the United States and for his daughter?
The straw you are grasping at, IMO, is awfully thin....
