Controversy develops over Reagan funeral speakers...
'President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was,' a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. 'He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet'...
CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST
Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."
The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.
Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.
Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.
"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.
Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.
The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Developing...
Not going to get me to take the bet! :)
MSNBC: JHean is standing by in a waiting room, and will be out shortly to loffer some prayers (gag) and pay his respects (yeah, right)> Kerry is anxious that everyone know this in not a political event.
Her time to help prepare and carry out the wishes of her husband. Perhaps he husband stated early on in their retirement that he did not want klinton hovering over his memorial service. Perhaps Nancy, as the above article infers via the klinton spokesman, absolutely did not want that intern boinker using his forked tongue and lizard-like soul to speak over her husband's casket.
Nancy is nobody's fool.
She knows that while her husband dove deeper into his sickness, scum was running the nation, and she knew exactly how her husband would have felt about the way klinton ruled by polls and disgustingly degraded the Oval Office.
IF klinton is not invited to speak, that is EXACTLY how it should be. Honest. Without fear of his petty whining and fussing about missing the limelight.
He continues to show his lack of character by allowing those around him to speak of his anger over being left out.
Shallow, immature and, well.......typically liberal.
I've been out all day, and come home to this. I find it unbelievable that we even have to discuss this abomination. And people in the media have the absolute GALL to say that President Bush has caused political division in this country.
MR. CLINTON, HAVE YOU NO SHAME?
Clinton was late for the OKC Bombing Memorial Dedication because bombing survivors and family members of those killed didn't want him at the luncheon where Gov Keating and our Congressional delegation was attending.
Bubba made the Congressional delegation and Governor wait on the tarmack over 45 minutes as his plane took off for Tinker AFB late from NM because Bubba wasn't ready. Then they had to block off the Interstate to make it to the Memorial on time and then he stopped to do his photo op. We had one mad Governor and Congressional delegation not to mention citizens of Oklahoma and even our media!
The reporter on MSNBC just said that Kerry told reporters that he has met Reagan more often than George W. Bush. What an ass.
Kerry is only about politics and if the media wasn't so deaf, dumb, and blind they would say the truth! :)
the reporter was gushing over Kerry saying he did not want to make this political and that Reagan was a really likeable guy. I am going to be ill.
Makes me want to scream! Clinton is all about dividing!
What an arrogant, poor excuse for a human being! Can it get any worse?
Who are you or me or ANYONE to tell Nancy Reagan who she can or cannot have speak at RWR's funeral? This should be STRICTLY a personal decision, and the very idea that Clinton would complain shows him to be the very small, immature "man" I've always known him to be. Someone in his party should have the good grace to tell him to sit down and STFU.
Yup..Kerry jumped the line. He stood there for about 20 seconds and left. What a guy.
Too little, too late.
Outstanding post! I agree with you 100%!
Only if Kerry wins..work your heart out for Bush.
Insert joke here....
That would only be an oxymoron if it said:
"Kerry is a disgusting lowlife, gentleman."
The way you wrote it, it's just the facts, Maam.
Saw that also! Disgusting.
Geeez.....I agree totally! And admire Nancy even MORE if this was her decision!
