CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST
Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.
"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."
The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.
Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.
Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.
"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.
Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.
The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Developing...
Oh and you are 100% correct on this .. they hated President Reagan and everything he stood for
Reminds me of my one brother, he never had a nice thing to say about my mother, never sent her a birthday card or a mothers day card .. and only called when he wanted to brag about himself
On the day of her funeral, he cried like a baby ... took everything in me not to call him a Hypocrite
Rush is talking about it now. The Reagans started in 1989. The year a presdient leaves office they are to start working on their funeral. Every living president has done it -- except CLINTON!
I'm curious...what makes you think this will even begin to resemble Wellstone-pallooza?
Clinton went to see President Reagan shortly after the election of 1992 but before bubba took office...I'm sure Reagan told Nancy right after THAT visit to make sure Clinton never got a speaking role at his funeral! Reagan could always spot horse manure a mile away!
ROTFL, gald I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.
You, too, huh? I need something to hit... ;)
ROTFL, gald I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.
Sorry, I meant GLAD I wasn't drinking something...
bump.
My guess is that he too will pass away while Dubya is president!
Oh. You probably remember that NO Republican was asked to speak at Wellstone's funerally.
Additionally, NO Rupublican threw a temper tantrum when they were left off the list of speakers.
When Clinton dies, Hillary can invite whom ever she wishes to speak at his service.
Better put some ice on that, William!
Quilla, here in the Los Angeles area, I haven't heard anything about businesses closing on Friday. Certainly haven't heard anything like that where I work. But I'm going to take the day off anyway.
And, to me, Nancy seems to be the type of lady with a mind like a steel trap. She NEVER forgets.
I definately remember the crap the leftists threw at her all the time. Not to mention her Husband.
And now, these same leftists want to get their final digs? I think not. But the choice is up to Nancy and Nancy alone. If they have a problem with this, they only make themselves look smaller than they already are.
If they do, they'd be agreeing that their own Wellstone service was a crass, opportunistic political rally. Let 'em. If Mrs. Reagan doesn't want Slick to speak at Ronnie's funeral, that's all I need to know.
So what.
So what.
You know what's really scary? The only way this could've leaked out is if Bubba okayed it. He sees nothing wrong with this kind of behavior. What a monomaniacal egotist. The guy's a loon. The country's luck we weren't worse off after 8 years with the Toons at the helm.
