You do understand that not inviting either of the living Democrat ex-Presidents makes it even easier for the Kerry camp to spin this as a "Paul Wellstone-like crass, opportunistic political rally", don't you?

If they do, they'd be agreeing that their own Wellstone service was a crass, opportunistic political rally. Let 'em. If Mrs. Reagan doesn't want Slick to speak at Ronnie's funeral, that's all I need to know.

I think both Presidents Carter and Clinton are invited to the funeral - as they should be, as former Presidents of the United States. To try to barge their way in to speak at the funeral is another matter entirely.

It appears that there is only one person and his supporters making this time for dignity and appropriateness a "crass, opportunistic political rally" - and it's not the Reagan family. It's not even the Bush family. It's not even the Government.

Who does that leave?

Pretty obvious.

My mom always believed and preached that old truth that "if you can't say something nice about someone, it's best to be quiet." Sometimes this bunch - our immediate former President and his crowd - make that a very, very hard thing to do.
