CLINTON DISAPPOINTMENT: LEFT OFF FUNERAL SPEAKERS LIST

Former President Bill Clinton has privately expressed anger he has apparently been left off the speakers list of Friday's Reagan State Funeral, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned.

"President Clinton really held out all hope the funeral would be a nonpartisan event, like Nixon's was," a top Clinton source said on Tuesday morning. "He's angry and disappointed neither he nor President Carter have been asked to speak, as of yet."

The top source says Clinton has been critical that both Bush presidents will address the crowd gathered at National Cathedral.

Nixon's vice president Gerald Ford did not speak at Nixon's funeral.

Clinton's inner circle is convinced Nancy Reagan has personally shut out Clinton from any high-profile participation.

"It is a state funeral, using tax dollars," the top Clinton insider explained.

Former President George H.W. Bush, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will join President Bush in eulogizing Ronald Reagan, Reagan's office announced. Presiding over the service will be former Sen. John Danforth of Missouri, who is an ordained Episcopal priest. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor and the Rabbi Harold Kusher will give readings, while Irish tenor Ronan Tynan will sing.

The eulogy is being prepared by President Bush's chief speechwriter, Michael Gerson, who also wrote the president's moving speech for a memorial service in the same cathedral after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

I think, although we all remember the Reagans fondly, that, perhaps, we forget a bit since they've been out of the limelight for a while. The one, overall factor in their decisions -- ALWAYS -- "what's the right thing to do?"

My favorite political cartoon was from way back. I believe it was the '83 budget, but I could be wrong. The cartoon showed a picture of Reagan holding the budget book, with a stern and determined face. From his waist down, he was an old oak tree trunk.

Don't worry, if this was decided before OR after Reagan's death, she won't back down. She's not THAT different from her husband.

I think I'll go back to DU and ask their support for all the things my tax dollars pay for that I can't enjoy, like Pell Grants for my daughter, affirmative action for her college application, Social Security benefits for the newly and often illegally arrived. I wonder if I'll get a fair hearing.?

They'll probably be pro-Social Security handout for the illegals. Sounds like something the DUmmies over at DU would advocate.

I didn't say that he should. I said I would understand why they would ask him to speak. If Carter were to pass, I think it would be appropriate to have GHW and/or W to speak. If they were not asked to speak, I would not be shocked or hurt. It would be appropriate, but not necessary. Same with BJ Clinton.

Why the f#&% can't Bill Clinton speak at his own funeral?"

He's probably got a videotape already prepared (recorded on 6 hour slp-mode)

"unless any of them have been asked by Nancy to speak OH WELL."

LOL, Oh well, indeed!

Good grief.

Let's recap here.

Pres. Carter hasn't made a public statement, yet he wants to be part of the eulogizers at the Cathedral.

Pres. Clinton tried his best to destroy the Military the Pres. Reagan had restored, and did a pretty good job at it, from my point of view.

Neither of them have one word to contribute to the Funeral service and frankly, I, for one, am glad they've been left off of the list. I can now safely tape this without worrying about having to see Slick Willy.

Sheesh. The gall of some people.

I can imagine what that "self-taped" eulogy would be like.

"If yer watchin' this speech, then you must really miss me . . . Heck, I already miss me."

A political boost for his book and his wife. Wonder if they'll be able to behave decently at the funeral?

Here's hoping the clinton's just stay away. Better to see their honest outright contempt that their feigned bereavement.

Well, I have been taking some medication the dr. prescribed for me after our daughter died in January. If I had not, I would have spent all day and night bawling my eyes out. It just brought back all those sad memories or her death and service. President Reagan was the one who got me interested in politics. He was also the first President our other daughter voted for. He was a great leader and will be sorely missed.

I heard Rush talking about Kerry and how he wanted to break in line, get his photo taken and then leave as quickly as he could. Pathetic!

Why, I’m shocked!
