of course, the media will report this as an attack on a mosque by American troops.

Yes, mosques are like SUVs - the people inside them have no relevance...

"We have no other enemies."

Wanna bet? The rest of the Shiite population is getting REAL tired of this guy Sadr. I think he's toast in short order.

Riyadh Moussa, a militiaman who had been sleeping in compound, said he heard a "whoosh of a missile in the air"

Better be more careful where ya sleep, Riyadh.

I'm hoping that the Iraqis eventually take out these 'mosques' themselves (with US forces in an advisory role of course). It's politically incorrect for 'Crusaders' to take out a mosque. Since Iraqis are fellow Arabs, it should be totally PC for them to do it. (But I wonder if Iraqis would be allowed to use the 'N' word? Hmmmm...)

I'm sure it was the Americans who did it, he said. We have no other enemies. . . Iraqi police took small arms fire when they tried to approach to see what was going on . . . One of the militiamen in the hospital shouted at reporters and officials, threatening them if they released any information.

Why would these peaceful people have any enemies?

I haven't noticed any press reports about what if anything has been discovered in the Philadelphia Mosque raid.

Cal, I don't think they found anything noteworthy.Probably nothing more than a few cases of grenades, some block TNT.a few pounds of Ricin,50 or 60 detonators. You know: petty crap like that.

Oh ! Maybe a case or two of H-Rations.(The H stands for "halal".)

Okay, maybe some Shiites, but no more than a fraction, 99-per-cent at most.

Now did the Lord say, "First thou pullest the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbest thou the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."

Kufa mosque explosion kills 2
Two Iraqis have been killed and at least nine wounded when a weapons cache used by militiamen loyal to Shiite radical leader Sheik Moqtada al-Sadr exploded.

The explosion caused a fire inside Kufa's Great Mosque compound, according to witnesses, medical sources and the United States military.

Most witnesses say a rocket hit the ammunition depot used by Sadr's Mehdi Army militiamen near the mosque, causing the dump to blow up.

The Great Mosque is where Sadr delivers his Friday prayer sermons.

A doctor at the Mohammad Baqr al-Hakim hospital puts the death toll at two, while the nearby Furat al-Wasat hospital puts the wounded at nine Iraqis.

However, it did not specify whether they were gunmen or civilians.

A statement by the US military confirms that an explosion has taken place and that part of the mosque is on fire.

"Subsequent reports indicate Iraqi police attempted to investigate the area and render assistance, but were fired upon by Moqtada al-Sadr's militia from the vicinity of the Kufa Mosque," the statement said.

"This demonstrates al-Sadr's complete disregard for holy sites because a weapons cache belonging to his militia that was stored there caused the explosion and fire."

The shrine is built on hallowed ground where one of the founders of the Shiite faith, Ali, was assassinated in 661 AD.

Although it remains unclear whether the blast is a result of an attack, the explosion has shaken the latest truce efforts aimed at putting an end to two months of deadly fighting between US forces and Sadr's militia.
