Noonan: Reagan Commemoration Driving Media Nuts
NewsMax.com ^ | 07 June 2004 | Staff Reports

Posted on 06/06/2004 9:47:26 PM PDT by txradioguy

Reporters who regularly slammed Ronald Reagan while he was president are quietly seething now that they're forced to mouth platitudes about the man's greatness, former Reagan speechwriter Peggy Noonan said Sunday night.

"[Journalists] are willing, over the next few days, to concede what is so obvious that they have to concede it - his personal goodness, etc.," Noonan told Matt Drudge on his radio show.

But with a solid week of commemorations for the conservative icon still ahead, liberal reporters will barely be able to contain themselves, she predicted.

"I'll bet they start pulling a few political [stunts] - kind of letting their biases out a little bit more. And I'll tell you, there's going to be an explosion next weekend [after Reagan is buried].

"That will mean that the elite journalistic media will have gone through seven days of talking kindly about Reagan," said Noonan. "I would say that by next Friday night, they're going to blow."

The libs have not waited at least until he is in the ground before slamming him. The DemoRATS are just warming up!

Chicago Sunday Tribune AKA: The LIBune.

"Great Communitcator outrode scandal"

Editorial:

"... He approved the secret sale of arms to Iran to win the release of American hostages in Labanon, spawning a scandal that eveloped his presidency...."

Huh? I don't recall reading anywhere or hearing at any time that Ronald Reagon "approved" of any such thing!!!

I have been waiting for someone on the left to claim that the Republicans are using the Reagan memorials for a campaign rally.

Bill Schneider on Saturday brought up a warning to Republicans within hours of the announcement of Reagan's passing. The fool actually thinks Americans would be tempted to comport themselves as the dems did at the Wellstone rally. He even played clips of that rally and said there would be a backlash if the Republicans did the same.

Another example that the libs think everybody operates like they do. They are wrong, of course.

Noonan is right to expect the media to blow on Saturday. From what I hear, the Reagan family is preparing a state funeral like none that we have ever seen. With the G8 meeting going in Atlanta, there will be plenty of foreign heads of state already here who will attend.

I read a post on here yesterday that stated some DNC hack "journalist" actually got up during the press conference the Reagan family's representatives had yesterday and sneered about who was paying for the funeral!

I think Peggy's being too optimistic here - if they make it until Wednesday before the dambreaks, I'll be frankly amazed. At any rate, I'll definitely take the "Under" on her prediction.

Plus, I think they're tipping their hand inadvertently. No matter how dignified we carry ourselves at Mr. Reagan's funeral (and no doubt we will behave ourselves), it will be spun by the media as Wellstone II. we need to be ready for this.

Very good point.

I fear you are correct, but as you say, forewarned is forearmed.

Just call him "Mr. Mohair Subsidy."

I know he is getting some kind of subsidy for the New Mexico ranch he has. I thought it was a mohair subsidy. (not sure).

The left would love the chance to criticize Republicans for doing the same as the Democrats did at the Wellstone funeral. The beauty of the situation is that Republicans don't have to politicize the Reagan's funeral, the memorials will speak for themselves.

The hate those on the left feel for President Reagan is apparent. Go to www.boortz.com and read his Neil Nuez notes for today. About half way down in the column are excerpts he put in from DU underground freaks. Beware, the F word is used often and frequent to describe how they fell and many say they are glad he is dead. And, liberals are suppose to be the "caring" party and group. These people are nothing but American hating, liberty hating, communist.

You are probably right. I think they are already starting to crack. Christian Iminpoortaste cracked at the D-Day ceremony by contrasting today's Iraq conflict with D-Day. I think the pressure of all the Reagan praise is having effects on all their messages.

Keep on bothering us.

I've been a conservative since a little before RR - worked for Buckley's election to NY Senate - and i am always intrigued as to what motivates liberals with an ability to completely ignore facts. The RR=bad phenomenon is an amazing thing in the lib history, and it continues to puzzle me to this day.

Your reflections on your self are quite valuable for me, and I suspect, others.

nopardons: I suspect you will enjoy Fishtalk's post this thread (start post#133...)

I saw some "I Miss President Reagan" buttons

I have one from the White House Freeps during the Clintons' reign of terror. Angelwood, do you still have any of those?

"...Fostered Cold War Might..."

How truly (and entirely in line with their opinions)reprehensible. That wasn't by accident we can be sure. I read 'Fostered Cold War' and stopped and had to read it again , as the word 'Might' just seemed totally out of place. This is typical and expected behavior from the N.Y. Slimes.
