DALLAS -- The evacuation order has been lifted Monday at a cargo terminal at Dallas Love Field after tests showed a package did not contain explosives.

The late morning incident began when routine checks found traces of what could have been an explosive on a package.

Special dogs were brought in to check the item at the Southwest Airlines cargo facility.

Officials also contacted the shipper of the package.

Transportation Security Administration official Mike Restovich says Love Field is safe and the testing was a precaution.

Ohio hospitals will help monitor for signs of terrorist attack

Associated Press

CINCINNATI - Hospitals in Ohio are joining with others to watch for signs of a terrorist attack, a move health officials say could play a vital role in early detection.

Some Cincinnati and Columbus health care centers will send information about emergency room patients to the University of Pittsburgh, where computers will monitor surges in rashes, respiratory illnesses and other symptoms that could signal a biological or chemical attack. Other hospitals around the state also are expected to join with the help of $330,000 in federal money.

"The faster we can identify an outbreak, the faster we will be able to treat patients," said Carol King, vice president of emergency services at the Health Alliance, a health system that includes six hospitals in Cincinnati and northern Kentucky.

A similar early warning system was in place in Utah during the 2002 Winter Olympics. About 100 metropolitan areas around the country have some sort of detection plan, said Dr. Tracee Treadwell, chief epidemiologist with the bioterrorism preparedness and response program at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The University of Pittsburgh system takes people's age, gender, ZIP code and medical complaint into account. The geographic data, for example, could help pinpoint where an attack took place. Pittsburgh officials then would alert health departments in the affected area.

Health officials say personal information such as Social Security numbers won't be forwarded.

Not everyone is sure it's going to work.

"The bottom line is that this is a great concept, but it remains to be seen how effective it is," said Michael Stoto, a senior statistical scientist for Rand Corp. who has studied surveillance systems. "If there were a terrorist attack involving hundreds of people going to emergency rooms, you wouldn't need a sophisticated computer system telling you that something is going on."

You know I hadn't been thinking about smaller airlines. They would be so easy as compared to larger ones.

Thank you for the new info.

As I read it, and no two readings were not enough.

It appears that killing is the goal, no surprise, I would also say that it is a direct threat to the new men who are to govern Iraq.

Those men are brave men, imagine being elected to hold office and knowing that every ballot is a death sentence.

Now that the how-to books are back, the high school kids will have something to read this summer. Not said in fun, but in fact, if one looks at the links in the news reports in post #2935.

They sure do want us to know that in our short history, we haven't suffered enough and they intend to see that we do.

Thank you for your work on this.

"I expect no less of the terrorists."

Don't give them any credit by comparing them to special forces. These guys are animals with very little military training. The AQ tapes of "house clearing" exercises taking place are amateur hour in the extreme. The guys in my IDPA club would clean their clocks based on that footage. And trust me, SF is the best of the best. It's easy to kill yourself and thus take a lot of innocent folks with you without warning. But stand toe to toe with real professionals? Naaaaaaaah that's why they resort to terrorism.

I grant you that September 11th was a well planned event, but it wasn't really planned by the bozos that actually carried it out. Yeah, they learned to handle an aircraft in flight which is not that tough (I once "handled" a C141 Starlifter in the same manner at the invitation of the pilot).

Just remember: Barbarism does NOT equal training.

509th Infantry to ship out Friday

By staff reports

Fort Polk -- The 1st Battalion (Airborne), 509th Infantry Regiment, will hold a deployment ceremony for the Soldiers of Alpha and Bravo Companies Friday, June 11th at 10 a.m. outside of battalion headquarters, on the corner of 15th Street and Mississippi Ave.

The approximately 200 Soldiers of the Alpha and Bravo Companies will deploy in the coming weeks to the Central Area of Command in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The 509th, or Geronimo as they are known, is one of the Army's most elite units -- a parachute infantry unit highly trained in all levels of combat.

Its full-time mission is portraying the opposing forces for all those who train at the Joint Readiness Training Center at Fort Polk. The 509th has not seen combat since World War II, although five members were selected to serve as Pathfinders, or advance scouts, for the 101st Airborne Division during the 1991 Gulf War.

Their helicopter was shot down during a search and rescue mission. Two were Killed In Action and one became a Prisoner of War.

Since the Gulf War, The JRTC and the 509th have helped train more units that eventually deployed for worldwide missions than any other training center. The ceremony is open to the public.

Me either, I'm still trying to catch up. Groan.

Did you see 2B's post about your terrorist girl? It was pretty interesting. Located on the last page or 2. Said she was a hoax, about what you thought, and that her gig was about up. :)

It is always on the left hand. I have see it on drug dealers, terrorist and Iraq reporters. Binny doesn't wear it all the time. Just to make sure SOMEBODY knows what side he is on.

Like this one is red. Binnys is a dark blue.

I got caught up in a horse race this past weekend and got WAY behind in my duties. :)

I'm going to try to dig around in the caves again tonight, if I have the chance.
