Quite often people hate Officers, at least until someone with a shotgun is kicking down the door.

Pull out your 870 and kill that 'someone' with some low velocity buck shot...and when the cops show up...tell me how much you like them...

I don't know about your neck of the woods, but 90% of the cops on my 'beat' are under 30 years of age, sport the commando haircut, tree trunk necks and prefer BDU's with ballistic nylon holsters to a standard cop garb.

The cops are a quasi-military organization, and no more so in small and mid size towns. Its freaking out of control. Just wait until the last of the gray hairs die out.

Here in NC, you have the right to defend your property. You are covered by law, at least here in NC. I can't remember the exact statute number, but it does say that if someone is breaking into your home and you shoot them and they die in the process you are justified. The reasoning is if someone is kicking in your door there is no way you can know that their intentions are not murderous and are aiming to hurt you.

Sheesh.

"I don't know about your neck of the woods, but 90% of the cops on my 'beat' are under 30 years of age,"
Nope. Under 40, yeah -- you get that cool 20-year retirement package most places, but why hold that against the individual officer?

" sport the commando haircut,"
Yeah, assaulted by a haircut. It could happen...

"tree trunk necks"
What, cops lift weights? Now THAT's a change.

"and prefer BDU's"
Cops in BDU's? Where do you live, Iraq? I'm not aware of ANY domestic agency that has chosen BDU's as their patrol uniform, but if they have, it's an agency decision -- not the 'under-30, fade-wearing, creatine snorting copper's' fashion decision.

"with ballistic nylon holsters"
Now, this I have have seen, mainly because it's relatively inexpensive, is impervious to weather (unlike leather), has a really ingenious retention system that is still useable for quick acquisition.....so what's the problem with the Blackhawk holster exactly?

No, I'm not a cop, nor do I play one on TV, but I have bothered to get to know my local agency, go on a few ride alongs, and get to understand things from the officer's perspective. The vast majority are great guys -- even those with thick necks. The few bad apples get cought out and shown the door more frequently in LE than in most other trades I'm familiar with.

You must be in Kansas City. Just saw an episode today with search warrant officers in black shirts and BDU pants and cap. I was uncomfortable with that.

Must have been their 'war on drugs' squad.

Overall I love the show and would love an all COPS channel.

"Anybody who watches "Cops" can also enjoy watching the violation of the Constitution that occurs roughly every 5 minutes."

Yup. I strongly support law enforcement, but you're right. I can't remember the number of times I've cringed at what was being filmed on this show. That's why I get a huge kick out of Reno 911.

Love your screen name! My second car was a 68 SS convertible. That car had more snot than Durante's nose.

You'd be right at home with the other members of my family. My wife and mother-in-law watch the show all the time, and my stepdaughter tolerates it well. Me, I wish they'd put on the History Channel, heck, even CSPAN would be better!

There seem to be only two story lines, the urban (read: black) drug-user-dealer-thief who gets thrown to the pavement, and always says, "That shiznit ain't mine!" or the rural (read: redneck) spousal abuser who always gets pulled out of his trailer and says, "Whun did it become agin' the law to beat yore wife within a inch uh her laif'?"

Where's the fun in that? I theorize that my wife and MIL just want to see people who they can feel superior to. What's the entertainment value for you, if I may ask, please?

Comic Relief. How many times do you get to see a crackhead call the COPS because they've been robbed.

And just the stupid stuff people say when they've been caught.

It also gave me a different perspective on law enforcement. A few of my friends are COPS.

I see a different aspect. The cops, following directions from the TV crew no doubt, always casually inquire as to whether they can search the car and the do-do's invariably (at least in the episodes edited for us) say, "Yeah, go ahead," even though they know there are drugs or guns in their cars. Too dumb for words. Of course, they should have warrants but if the detainee wants to waive his rights, well, what can you do?

I also notice that the cops read them their Miranda rights and, again in the edisodes we see, the retards seem to not hear or if they do, disregard the part about not having to respond to questions and the part about being furnished an attorney, and proceed to spill their guts. I suppose they are too bombed or otherwise mentally incapacitated to understand what is being said.

Well, by my count, at least once every COPS episode!

As for comic relief, I share Jay Leno's amusement at news stories about stupid criminals (I never miss "Headlines" night, I wish they'd do more of that, and less "Jaywalking"), but the news stories Leno reads only take a half a minute, and COPS gives us ten long excruciating minutes of the same bozo. Then, they follow up with another story of another bozo, doing pretty much the same thing. It gets tedious after awhile.

Not meaning to take anything away from LEO's, but COPS makes them seem more like babysitters in an insane asylum rather than people who are on the front lines of a dangerous social breakdown.

In Marin County California, you will more than likely get life at stony lonesome, and if you fail in killing the perp, you will be sued and lose everything. If your white and he isn't, you will also be charged with a hate crime, and the ACLU will come after you on civil rights violations.

The local 'cops' and DA will charge you with some sort of firearms violation, such as not having a child lock on the gun when you pulled the trigger. You will never be able to own a firearm again.

If the cops find your reloader and Hercules Blue Dot, and Estes model rockets, you will be charged with explosive charges.

If the newspaper digs a little, you will be written up as terrorist.

Given todays tenor...they will also mention that the 'cops' found 'dog leashes'

Thanks. My convertible is in the shop right now and I miss it -- 24 hours is too long to be without it! But it should be back on the road tomorrow. Your SS convertible may have been a little more souped up than mine, which has the stock 350 2-brl.

Every show? I've only seen one episode that a woman called the cops after she gave the suspected dealer money and the dealer, a recovering prostitue, stiffed her. The old adage no honor among thieves is still true.

If it's every episode I must not be watching enough.

It's safe to say you're not up for an all COPS channel? :)

"Miraculously, we have suddenly become the greatest group of people on Earth."

No miracle here Chevy Z28. "Cops" (peace officers) earn that distinction.

If somebody with a weapon is kicking in my door, my first response is going to be a few rounds of rifle ammo thru his person, THEN call the cops to take the report. By the time the cops show up, most times the incident is over except for the report writing

Anyone who has see the FOX-TV show COPS know it portrays law enforcement in a positive light

In all likelihood, that is exactly why the race-baiting Cincinatti pols threw them out.

OK, you caught me, I exaggerated somewhat. But they all seem to have an overriding sameness to me, as I put up with them out of the corner of my eye. My computer repair desk is, unfortunately, in the same room as the big TV. In fact, I'm next to it, and sometimes when I hear, "Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?" I short-circuit something if the power is turned on!

It's safe to say you're not up for an all COPS channel? :)

Oh, no, we'd NEVER watch any baseball if there was an all COPS channel! Of course, the way the Mariners are playing this year, maybe that would be the lesser of two evils ;)

Don't forget that you also have to make a split second decision as to whether they are cops at the wrong address.
