Three German men are facing weapons charges after being caught with a home-made potato gun.
The men were seen by a police patrol driving away from a lake in Kirchhain-Niederwald at speed.
Officers gave chase and stopped the men who told them they'd been trying out the potato gun in front of spectators.
The men said they'd got instructions on how to make the gun from the internet.
They'd used bits of piping and a fuse from a gas stove. They'd also used several spray cans to fire the weapon.
The men were also carrying a number of potatoes, and told officers their gun could fire potato pieces more than 300 yards.
The potato gun is classed as a firearm and none of the men had a permit to own or carry one.
Germany really sucks
To challenge your post (because of my national pride):
1. There are more Americans having German than British ancestors.
2. I wouldn´t be too sure that the Brits would have won WW2 if not for the help of the US (ammo, equipment and later bomberplanes and men).
Yeah, that was apparently what happened. A truly Bart Simpson moment. Think of three kids saying, in unison, "Ididntdoitnobodysawmedoityoucantproveanything."
Assault with deadly kartoffeln. Now we are in trouble !
I really liked the Panzerschreck rabbit, by the way ! How are you, Michael ? What's the big news in Germany right now ?
I remember my Spudzooka days. 300 seems a little on the high side. IIRC, Aquanet was one of the best fuels because it had no water content. I always had trouble getting reliable ignition with a gas grill piezo sparker. One of the best I saw used a flint sparker from a Coleman stove. It fired every time.
I abandoned the effort as insane while working on a design that involved a Propane/Oxygen metering block.
I'm afraid you're right on issue #2. I didn't know German ancestry was that common in the US !
I thought the common tater gun was legal.
Yeah, it´s narrow, but it´s still true. I think 27% have some German blood, and 25% have some British blood.

Man builds gun to fire pumpkin a mile
A man in the US has built a cannon to fire a pumpkin a mile.
Jim Bristoe's invention has a 30 foot barrel and is powered by a 700 gallon air tank.
It's named "Ain't All There".
During a demonstration in Elletsville, Indiana the 42-year-old electrician and mechanic said: "You don't need to cover your ears, but you're going to know I shot it."
When Mr Bristoe fires the cannon, a 10 pound pumpkin is hit with 11,300 pounds of force.
He says the pumpkin projectile leaves the muzzle at about 900 mph, and during the test it fired a pumpkin through the rear of a Pontiac.
Mr Bristoe plans to take the two tonne pumpkin cannon to the first annual Pumpkin Propulsion Contest at Verizon Wireless Music Centre near Noblesville, on Saturday.
The contest is sponsored by Indianapolis radio station WRZX-FM and is the brainchild of morning show host Gonzo Greg and his colleagues.
"It's more of an exhibition than a competition, and we don't know what to expect in terms of entries," said Greg.
Confucius says: Never take a marshmellow gun to a tater gun fight.
Only if it can fire more than 5 comments or 10 taters per minute.
A push-button igniter, like we use on gas grills most likely.
i believe you are correct on both counts.
& try to ignore the prior poster, germany does not suck. it's my 2nd favorite country.
Too bad it wasn't a Pinto.
I would have paid to see that.
Ah, of course. Thank you.
Bonjour, mon ami!
Je suis bien, et je suis trés hereux (sp?), que nos avont un noveaux (sp?) président, Monsieur Köhler.
He´s a Christian Democrat and will give us strong speeches and some more patriotism. His last sentences were "I love our country" and "God bless our fatherland" - words I´ve never heard of Socialists. :)
Au revoir,
Michael
Ah-ha. I have an old gas grill igniter laying around my garage somewhere. Looks like it's going to be an interesting weekend. Thanks!
Thanks. For me, that applies to the US. :-) Just behind my home country.
Bump for (Ill)logical results of too much government.
