To challenge your post (because of my national pride):
1. There are more Americans having German than British ancestors.
2. I wouldn´t be too sure that the Brits would have won WW2 if not for the help of the US (ammo, equipment and later bomberplanes and men).
I'm afraid you're right on issue #2. I didn't know German ancestry was that common in the US !
