There once was a job. It wasn't much of a job, neither great nor awful; just a job in an assembly plant, putting engines together.
The CEO of the company that owned the Job decided that it would be better off if it were overseas. And so the CEO sent the Job to China. He said: "I don't like doing this, but we have to be competitive. We have no choice."
Only one person missed the Job, the Employee, but even she told herself that she should have moved on long before. The local Politician pretended to worry that the Job and others like it were leaving town, but he knew that people in that type of job didn't give much to election campaigns, unlike his friend, the CEO.
I forgot to check "This is an excerpt"
It was a Win Win. China became a little more capitalist, and American unions lost a little more of their hold on American workers. It was a good day.
The End.
The VP of the Nation that received the donation decided that it would be better off if it were not known the donation were from overseas. And so the VP put the donation deep in his pocket. He said: "I don't like doing this, but we have to hide it. We have no choice."
Only one person noticed the donation, but he told himself that he'll only mention it if he was caught making other illegal donations. The DNC worried that the donation and others like it weren't reaching their bank accounts, but they forgot that people in that type of job (monks) didn't give much to election campaigns because they were poor. But if it meant keeping the Oval Office, it was worth it.
Well, the person was caught making more illegal donations, the DNC was caught selling the Oval Office like honey from the pot, and they all laughed and swore they'd never do it again. Lying scum.
"But the Consumer, who saved big dollars on a Chinese product..."
- until he lost his job - which was outsourced to CHINA !
Just thought I'd ask. Do you realize how few actual union members there are in the United States? And do you realize how many of those Union members are teachers, police and fire members, and some medical related, folks whose jobs will NEVER go overseas?
The idea that sending manufacturing and clerical jobs overseas removes union power is about as close to a vapor-trail as you can get.
Are you aware that chinese factory labor is DOWN from what it was 10 years ago?
Of course we all know--from a trip to almost any store--that production in China is up, compared to 10 years ago--so it seems that jobs were "outsourced" to never-neverland FROM China too.
It's called increases in productivity.
You know, Ever since I was a little boy waaaaay back in the sixties, I have heard the phrase:
You won't have a job when you grow up because they are ALL being shipped to:
Pick one: a) JAPAN
b) KOREA
c) TAIWAN
d) INDIA
e) CHINA
None of that clap-trap ever happened.
By now we should ALL BE UNEMPLOYED and DESTITUTE!
They should be EXPORTING THEIR JOBS BACK TO US!
Then what should the offshored retrain to do?
If their job was so easily performed by someone willing to work for their living wage in their country, the the job must have been fairly non-technical to begin with. The only exception would be PROGRAMMING. A computer program can be written by a programmer in New Delhi and e-mailed to New York for much less than paying a programmer in New York. The computer industry has been done in by their own success. I would suggest training into a sector that cannot be so easily moved, like service or maintenance or real estate. Me, I'm in Maintenance of Electronics Systems And my job is safe...........Pardon me.... there's a knock at the door....... Se habla espanol?
The FTAA allows for next to unlimited H1B visas between all the signatories. They don't have to offshore you, they will just bring them here.
Return the US to free market principles and none of us would have to worry about how much manufacturing was being done over seas.
