Tell Congress: Censure (Reprimand) Democrat Nancy Pelosi for Her Disgraceful Ad Hominem Attack

Many FReepers have been contacting me about various action items I have posted, saying that they were having difficulty getting the contact info for their Congressmen, Senators, etc.  Thus, I have gone ahead and purchased a "SoapBox Alert" on Congress.Org to enable FReepers to use the protest tactics of this left-wing site against the left wingers -- it directly enables you to contact your representatives and Senators (and makes it very easy).   I hope you make use of it.

This is the Action Item: Tell Congress: Censure (Reprimand) Democrat Nancy Pelosi for Her Disgraceful Ad Hominem Attack

Clicking here will take you to the item as well.  Here is the text of the item:

On 5/21, Minority Leader Pelosi said this:

"I believe that the president's leadership and the actions taken in Iraq demonstrate an incompetence in terms of knowledge, judgment, and experience," Pelosi told reporters gathered to hear her remarks.

"This president should have known ... when you decide to go to war you have to know what the consequences of your action are and how you can accomplish the mission," Pelosi said.

The House Democratic leader added, "There was plenty of intelligence to say there would be chaos in Iraq following the fall of Baghdad."

"Bush is an incompetent leader. In fact, he's not a leader. He's a person who has no judgment, no experience and no knowledge of the subjects that he has to decide upon."

"Not to get personal about it, but the president's capacity to lead has never been there," Pelosi said.

"In order to lead, you have to have judgment. In order to have judgment, you have to have knowledge and experience. He has none," she added.

This is an outrage.  Ms. Pelosi's comments are not a criticism of policy, but they are a direct, ad hominem (personal) attack on the President for mere political gain in a time of war -- and reckless ones at that, for they give our enemies aid and comfort.

The Republicans were quick (for once) to respond:

Bush-Cheney '04 Campaign Chairman Marc Racicot addressed John Kerry, saying, "As leader of the Democratic Party, John Kerry needs to repudiate Nancy Pelosi's efforts to blame American deaths in Iraq on the President. No one is to blame for these deaths in Iraq but the terrorists who are trying to prevent freedom from coming to the Middle East."

Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie said, "To angry Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Ted Kennedy, terrorists and militia aren't responsible for the deaths of U.S. soldiers, their commander-in-chief is. And our servicemen and women, in putting torture chambers 'under U.S. management,' are no different than a regime that systematically tortured, raped and killed its own people."

"The San Francisco/Boston Democrats led by John Kerry have now adopted Blame America First as their official policy," Gillespie continued in a statement issued to the press.

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert (R-IL) said, "Mrs. Pelosi has the right to disagree with President Bush, and it is clear that she has a different vision from the President. But her comments questioning the President's competence cross the line."

"We are in the middle of a war and in the middle of a political campaign. Mrs. Pelosi's comments were meant to inspire her political base. But who else do they inspire? That is the question she should ask herself," Hastert continued.

"Her comments are also wrong," Hastert said.

Further, Hastert said, "Was it incompetence that put Saddam Hussein in jail? Was it incompetence that disbanded the Taliban? Was it incompetence that spurred the fastest economic growth rate in twenty years? Was it incompetence that created the highest home ownership rate in history?"

"Nancy Pelosi should apologize for her irresponsible, dangerous rhetoric," House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) told CNN. "She apparently is so caught up in partisan hatred for President Bush that her words are putting American lives at risk."

For these reasons, I urge you to contact your Representatives and Senators today and DEMAND that they issue a formal Censure (reprimand) of Representative Pelosi.

Take action here.

Keep those letters coming! Super job by all who have written! Here are the stats as of 4:00pm on Friday, 5/21: The item has been viewed 603 times, but only 152 actions have been taken. Surely we can do better than that! Please make sure you take an action if you view the page.

You can view what others have written here.  If you don't know what to write, look at what others have written.

Some people have written me asking for a sample letter.  While I strongly advise against seminar, generic letters, here is a good one that I saw:

As one of your constituents, I hereby demand that you act to censure Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-CA for her reprehensible and shameful Ad Hominem attack on President Bush, which took place on 20 May 2004.

It is blatantly obvious that Ms. Pelosi fully embraces the philosophy of "blame America first" in her personal and political viewpoints, and that her personal and unbridled hatred of President Bush render her incapable of objective thought and action.

Her venomous attack on the Commander In Chief while our nation and our military forces are at war is an outrage and must be dealt with in a swift and serious manner.

If Nancy Pelosi is unable to keep her hatred of the President along with her bellicose and vitriolic rhetoric in check, then she should be removed from office.

Until that time, she must be reprimanded, by censure, swiftly and in no uncertain terms by both houses of Congress.  At the minimum, Democrats must do the right thing by joining to censure her and then stripping her of her leadership position.

Ms. Pelosi is not fit to lead, and she has disgraced America -- and her fellow Democrats -- with her acerbic rhetoric.

Please take action against Representative Pelosi now.

Pelosi is a "double Democrat" born in Baltimore, one of the Democrat bastions of the USA, and residing in Marin Co., one of the avant garde liberal showcases of the world. She should join the Kerry ticket to give it a little pizzazz. Her father and brother have both been mayors of Baltimore, and her No. 2 in the House is Minority Whip Steny Hoyer of BALTIMORE!

As far as I'm concerned the GOP can go straight to hell before I will intercede on their behalf.

Oh, I'll vote for President Bush. However, the Electoral College renders my vote useless living in the Socialist Republic of Maryland (Montgomery County).

The rhetoric unleahed by the Left with the mainstream media as co-conspirators should hve been instantly attacked months ago.

The horses have left the barn already. Burn the damned thing down...I could care less.

The Republicans are nothing but a bunch of sissies and don't have the stomach or the brains to squelch this ever-growing treasonous attitude of the Democratic Party.

They are professional politicians and should have people with the proper IQs and plans to mount a counter-offensive.

Instead, I feel like some sort of fringe extremist wacko for wanting to see a war fought without regard to the nightly news and the goddamned NYT and Washington Post.

Where in the hell is a General Patton now that we need him? "We're not going to ask you to die for your country. We want the enemy bastards to die for their country.".....or something to that effect.

For some of us less creative freepers, it would help if we have a " sample" letter to go with......we can reword perhaps a little but it would help us articulate better what we want to say. I am not good with " words" .....sigh.

Nancy Pelosi joins the ranks of the Un-American politicians using their unfettered right to "free speech" to make blasphemous comments against our President and our country. (calling the President "incompetent" and blaming him for the problems in Iraq). This CANNOT STAND! The remarks of Pelosi and others, such as Kennedy, make us the laughing stock of the world, and worse, invite terrorists, knowing they have symapthisers in both Houses of Congress!

I tried to start a new thread to draw more people to this one in my punchiness...but i thought you would appreciate the Con law in this one!

Emailed demanding censure at the least. Even if it's to no avail,I feel better. Besides we have a mod Republican incumbent senator being challenged by a conservative in our primaries. We'll have an opportunity to see who has a backbone.

What I would love to see is some sort of joint statement by our service men and women in Iraq supporting President Bush and rejecting Rep. Pelosi's ignorant comments.

Perhaps they could invite her over to go on some missions with them. That way she could get her first lesson in military tactics before she shoots off her mouth again. "You just sit here on the fender, Nancy, you'll get a great view. We're going to go search for IEDs."

Done, Sent and Email to my Congressman DeMint. Pasted from some of the thoughts above:

Dear Congressman DeMint,
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's derogatory remarks yesterday about President Bush went above and beyond rational discourse and in to the realm of outright slander. In fact, in my estimation her words and actions verge on sedition as defined in the Sedition Act of 1918, Section 3. As a voting constituent in your district, I demand that you call for an immediate censure of Representative Pelosi for her ad hominem attack on a sitting President. Politicizing the war is shameful and I am making sure everyone I know recognizes that Democrats like her and Senator Kennedy are increasing the risk to our country and troops. The radical Islamists are trying to do to America what they've done in Spain through intimidation and terrorism, and it is what they are trying to do here. Please Congressman DeMint, take a little time off your Senate campaign and do what is right for our President.
