So long the methods used to fight terrorism are restricted to those approved by the Geneva Convention and US public opinion, there will never be peace in Iraq.

Initially, it didn't. It now does. I believe it's called 'the law of unintended consequences'

Only Rumsfield can create a climate for evil people and deeds, not Saddam. Get with the program.

BAGHDAD, Iraq
The head of Iraqi Governing Council was killed Monday in a car bombing near a U.S. checkpoint in central Baghdad, an Iraqi official said.

Abdel-Zahraa Othman, also known as Izzadine Saleem, was among four Iraqis killed in the blast, according to Redha Jawad Taki, a member of the Supreme Council of the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, a Shiite Muslim organization known as SCIRI.

Saleem, the name he went by most frequently, was a Shiite and leader of the Islamic Dawa Movement in the southern city of Basra. He was a writer, philosopher and political activist, who served as editor of several newspapers and magazines.

..Saleem was in a convoy of five vehicles, and the car carrying the bomb was adjacent to the council chief's car when it exploded, witness Mohammed Laith said. He said Saleem's driver and assistant were among those killed. Saleem held the council presidency, which rotates monthly among a selected group of members.

One battle in a war where our troops are winning every confrontation, and a powerful symbolic win for our enemies, and major loss in leadership for the Iraqi people.

We can help by exposing those who continue to embolden this enemy, the American reporters who investigate and spread rumors to undermine and destroy allies - while ignoring decades of real enemy atrocities, goals, actions - and appeasing the big liar - Osama Bin Laden - who remains free of press scandal, unashamed before the free world and his misled followers,  uninvestigated and accountable before the self-appointed immoral authorities in today's press.

While members of our free press investigate and attack our courageous SOD Rumsfeld,  Osama's followers - who still work to committ genocide - and committed 911 - are still peddling lies about our troops and our nation, blaming America for the mass-murder of Iraqis under Saddam's evil regime.

Our free press is still claiming there was no basis for the war even as they continue to cover-up decades of Saddam's atrocities - and mock the missions and noble sacrifices of all those who are courageously fighting - and dying - to free the brutalized Iraqi people - and who DID rid Iraq of a monster.

Our free press, whose freedom was, and is, being purchased in blood, sweat and tears by those they misrepresent today, lie to the world by not investigating, challenging, criticizing, accusing, condemning our enemies  - lie by ommission and commission -  inflaming the Arab world - while choosing to spend their time, resources - and precious freedom - to investigate, challenge, criticize, accuse, condemn our troops, our SOD, our CinC - our allies - misinforming the free world - emboldening our enemies, endangering our troops daily.

I wonder how the Sheeple will react to this bit of news. You never can tell with that fickle crowd.

They will wait until Perky Katie tells them what to think.

Then they'll go back to worrying about Rachel and Chandler, like every day .

"most Americans don't have the courage to see this nation through tough times. Sacrifice, due diligence, and the desire to overcome seems to be lost on most in this nation. We have become a nation of lazy, self-serving people."

The past few weeks I have had an opportunity to read some Civil War correspondence and battlefield reports relating to Antietam, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the politics and egos with which Lincoln had to contend. The everyday greatness of the participants is humbling. At the same time, the manipulative mendacity of the press and self-interested politicians is every bit as real as that occuring today. It's an exercise in deja vu all over again. The difference today is the speed and totality of dissemination. I wonder if we are not now in a time of peril equal to that of the 1860's.

"I wonder if we are not now in a time of peril equal to that of the 1860's...."

I believe we are, and most people in this nation don't understand what is at stake in Iraq and the Middle East.

I am amazed at the total ambivalence that so many in this nation are showing with regard to the WOT.

I work in NYC at major company; most people here are well educated and intelligent. Yet, they show total ignorance when it comes to what is going on outside of the price of gas, the cost of cable television, and how their players did in their fantasy leagues the night before. It appears that the only thing that interests them about Iraq is the England girl at the prison.

The shallow, selfish, and ignorant attitude is breathtaking in its scope and depth. It depresses me greatly when I realize the importance of the battle our troops are engaged in.

Have we really become a nation of idiots? Where is the fortitude and stock of our forefathers? I fear it may be finally gone.

Can we get serious about killing these bastards now?

Well...I agree, but unfortunately all I hear from the sheeple is "bbbaaaaaaaaaa!!"

I see the same thing everyday - we have become a nation of selfish idiots. Iraq is one big clusterf*** now, we can't even protect the leaders there - so how can it be deemed that we are winning? Bush is our best alternative, but even he blinked in Fallujah, causing our enemies to be even more emboldened. Our nation is just too PC and namby-pamby to truly win a war nowadays. How sad...

Very good point. As for your other point, I agree, we are probably at an equally perilous point in our national life.

Zarqawi the mad bomber took credit
for this. Fallujah nor al-Sadr
influence him one way or another.
If both were nuked, Zarqawi would
still do this. Until we get him &
his.

Bush has said it - this is what
terrorists do, by definition, 'til
we get THEM.

What concerns me is penetration
of our operation there. How easy
for them to blow up the exact one
they wanted, right under our nose.

Adnan Pachachi is widely expected to be 'in charge' (i.e., titular head) after June 30th. He's a Sunni Muslim, BTW, so that should be quite interesting..

well the prison story goes off the front burner..

You think? I doubt it. "Today the head of the IGC was assassinated. Meanwhile the prison atrocity scandal at Abu Ghraib continues to unfold. 783 American troops have been killed since the President declared an end to major hostilities on May 1st 2003"

Sure it did. In fact someday (maybe soon) the link will be publicized between Saddam and acts of terrorism here in the U. S.

Since Powell made his perceived "withdrawal" announcement the other day, look for more members of councils throughout Iraq to be the targets of assassination. Many of us jumped on this right away in our posts. It didn't take long, did it?

As General Sherman said (paraphrase) "Reporters! I would shoot them but if I did there would be despatches from hell before breakfast."

As far as totality well, lots of people don't pay attention either to the leftist media OR the rightist.

You erred by not putting that in bold.
