It has come to this. In discussing Iraq, the Abu Ghraib abuses and the beheading of Nick Berg, Katie Couric summarized the situation in this way:
"It seems like it's become of question of who is the lesser of two evils."
That's right. Katie Couric wondered aloud who might be more evil - Al Qaeda, which, in addition to beheading Nick Berg, murdered 3,000 innocent people on 9/11, or the United States of America.
And please don't imagine for a second that Matthews came to the defense of the US. When Katie asked Matthews for his reaction to the statement from Sen. Zell Miller to the effect that the Abu Ghraib prisoners had underwear put on their heads whereas Berg was left with no head, Matthews completely, yes completely, ignored Berg's beheading.
His answer was entirely devoted to condemning the US for actions that made us look like 'perverts.'
Can Today, Katie Couric and Chris Matthews sink any lower? I suppose anything is possible, but they are going to have to work hard at it after this morning's despicable performance.
Bless your heart...thanks so much! As I said- normally I let the madness go on...but this...this is really beyond the acceptable range.
Normally this would be true, but the rules governing 527's don't allow for this, so being Conservatives, we play by the rules. The other side doesn't and yesterday the FEC said they would not investigate until after the election, so now the floodgates are open for all.
We are waging against Hitler a kind of total war of wits. Anything goes, so long as it serves to bring nearer the end of the war and Hitler's defeat. If you are at all squeamish about what you may be called upon to do against your own countrymen you must say so now. I shall understand it. In that case, however, you will be no good to us and no doubt some other job will be found for you. But if you feel like joining me, I must warn you that in my unit we are up to all the dirty tricks we can devise. No holes are barred. The dirtier the better. Lies treachery, everything
Sefton Delmer propagandist during WW2.
The question to Katie is,who are you working for?
I don't think you guys realize how serious this is.
GLGB: Can I ask you to put it in a bit more context? Are you sure she said "WHO" is the lesser of two evils, instead of "WHICH"? Was she comparing the acts to one another - or was she actually comparing the U.S. to Al Qaeda? The use of the word "who" in the quote is critical.
If it was "which", well, it's not that big a deal.
But if it was "who" - I think we're really approaching actionable charges of treason.

The guards were perverts because they are defending this country.
El slicko's actions were "just sex" because the dumbocRAT media was defending him.
I know Old Sarge is already on this thread today. I think the perky bi+(# has finally lost any marbles she had left.
Apparantly Swartzkopf just about disemboweled the 2nd Lt. that was supposed to keep her under control.
You will notice that she hasn't been overseas on assignment near the military since.
Regards,
Sorry, I can't be more specific. I was sitting in front of the TV with my laptop, well, on my lap, and doing the best I could.
My wife works for a local TV station, and she has to put up with Pete Jennings' utterances. Whenever Pete shoots off his mouth the phones light up--"I'm never watching your station again!!"; "Why do you people let him get away with that!!". Truth be told, the local affiliate would love to do away with ABC Nightly News, but they can't for obvious reasons.
So why do people continue to watch it? Probably out of habit. Network news is mainly watched by old folks that grew up with pre-cable television. My parents fall into that category. The majority of people that call my wife to express their outrage are senior citizens.
"Yes, but it is the failure of "conservatives" to stand up and be "not good guys" and call them on it loudly and persistently. People who have voices in our country have become primarily careerists--and that means that they accept the standing crazy mores that leftists can be loud and perisistent and rightists have to be polite. It's abusrd, but because they accept it due to their fear of being ostracized, we are left with the current situation."
I agree. The Clintons did a great job of "destroying" and attempting to destroy anyone who spoke out against them. One look at the attempt to "destroy" Rummy from the day he began that "bottom up" review of the military is very telling. Fortunately for this country Rummy was not in that position for a career and is not swayed by the potential of being ostracized.
I do believe that there is a reason why the majority of people in this nation are prone to be bent on the "wrong" side of things. What never happens are these liberals accept responsibility for their "evil" deeds no matter what.
JFKerry seeking to become president over his "hero" status in a "war" he opposed describes a mental case.
I say Couric say this earlier today and I was absolutely astounded. She's an overpaid idiot.
K - so you can't confirm the quote as originally stated in the title of the thread? Damn. I already mentioned this on another message board.

Why do our intelligence agencies monitor Al-Qaeda, etc?
Well, it's my best recollection of what I heard. She certainly alluded to the lesser of two evils.
Please see my posts 88 and 95 - since you saw it, can you confirm the word "who" was used, instead of "which"?
Do Today show transcripts get posted online?

One can apply the same reasoning to the election, Katie. (for all those fence-sitters & one issue people): Who would be the lesser of two "evils" President Bush or John Kerry?
Have a look at post # 94, which confirms that Katie did say this.
