Prometheus - Theft of Fire

Prometheus, was an elder greek god, a Titan, who created humans out of mud in the image of the gods. This is one of the many tales of the greek creation myths.

In the early history of man, an argument emerged on which portion of a sacrificial bull must be given to the gods. The Olympians asked Prometheus to arbitrate. He then created two piles of meat, one pile had the choicest flesh but with the unappetizing looking stomach on top and the other pile had only bones and but was covered with a layer of juicy fat.

Prometheus then asked the supreme Greek God Zeus to choose which portion should go to the gods. Zeus saw through the deception but still choose the fat-covered bones in order to create an eternal enmity between gods and humans.

Zeus was furious that Prometheus tried to trick him and therefore decided to withdraw the gift of fire to humankind. Man can get the best part of the meat but will have to eat it raw. However, Prometheus stole the fire away from the flaming chariot of Helius (the Sun) and hid in a the hollow stalk of a plant. He then happily sped to man with this heavenly gift of fire.

Revenge - Pandora

Zeus rage shook the heavens when he found out that Prometheus stole the fire. To punish him and mankind, he instructed Hephaestus (God of fire, artisans, smiths) to create a woman of stunning beauty from clay and water.

Pandora, the first woman was thus created. She was then given a final gift, jar which she must not open. Hermes then swiftly brought her down to Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus. Though Prometheus had forseen that Zeus will retaliate and warned his brother against accepting the gift. Epimetheus did not heed the warning as he was attracted to the great beauty of Pandora.

Pandora stayed on earth for a while before she became curious about the jar the gods gave her. When she opened it, all the misfortune of the world overflowed to the earth. The gifts were in fact labour, old age, evil, plague - brought only trouble to mankind. Panicked, she then quickly replaced the jar lid just before Hope could come out. The rest of the evils and dieseas were already out causing humans much pain and hurt thereafter.

According to Hesiod, not only did the first woman Pandora, released the evils upon the world, she also became the mother of all wicked women. Those who nag; those who covets the husband's wealth; those who cheat on their husbands; and those who set men against one another.

Prometheus' Torment

Zeus was angry at Prometheus for tricking him on the sacrificial meat and stealing the fire for mankind. To punish him, he had his servants tied him up with unbreakable adamantine chains to the base of the Caucasus mountains. A stake was pierced through him to hold him to the rock.

To add to his torment, a giant eagle would come everyday during the day to gnaw at his liver. In the night, the liver would grow back, just in time for the eagle to have another meal tomorrow.

This torture lasted 13 generations of humankind. Eventually, Heracles, a mortal son of Zeus, shot down the eagle and freed the Titan, who had given such a great gift and endured so much pain for the lowly humankind.

Just a ping...the linked article in post 811 is an interesting compilation of
factoids about "why was Nick Berg in Iraq?".

Nick went on to serve a higher Al Queda purpose: human sacrifice on film.

And that isn't far fetched considering how many of these types will strap bombs onto their own babies for their higher purpose -- or send their own children with bombs strapped to them to blow up a crowd of innocent people. Or Rachel Corrie's "friends" allowing her to jump in front of a moving bulldozer --- friendship to these people doesn't mean what it means to most of us.

"I saw the local news when he said this,...

I am glad someone else saw exactly what he said. Yahoo and Reuter's are turning it to say something like; "They don't know what they have done, he was their friend."

That's why Daddy Berg (Mr. ANSWER) said "They killed their best friend."

It is an odd thing to say when you really think about it.

BTW, did Daddy Berg really say that? Because yesderday in a telegraph.co.uk article a friend of Nick, a guy named Skip Best, was also quoted as saying something similar.

Skywalk,That's not true, this thread is to explore facts and take apart info.To put something in writing does not mean that it is true. These are questions put out for anyone to answer and maybe at the end of the line the truth will be stronger for this.My granddaughter just returned from Iraq and most is quiet but she did say unless they come in,meaning the people from the farms.

"In the interview from outside his home..." "'I am sure that he only saw the good in his captors untilthe last second of his life,' Berg said. 'They did not know what they were doing. They killed their best friend.'"

What the heck kind of statement is that? .. their best friend??

Also .. I thought they weren't giving anymore interviews .. I saw a video clip of the daughter telling the media they wouldn't and that the media had to get off their property

Berg had been in Baghdad from late December to Feb. 1 and returned to Iraq in March. He did not find work and planned to return home at the end of March, according to his parents.

FNC interviewed a man that says he was with Berg the night before he left Bagdad and he claims that Berg made alot of money working

It's more than that. If Berg was conspiring to defeat President Bush vis a vie, ANSWER, he was a possibly a traitor. This is a lose-lose proposition for the Dem's: One of there own providing counter intelligence info for the enemy, and one of their chief ethnic supporters as the means.

I guess secular humanism isn't workin' out so well for some groups. But then, socialism didn't work out for them, either.

I am not so sure this kid did support Bush or the war. Sorry, but I have extreme doubts.

You got that right. Check this out.

1) Friends and Family said: "...he supported the Iraqi war and the Bush administration."

2) "He was one of the greatest humanitarians of our time."

3) Nicks Father Said: "I am sure that he only saw the good in his captors until the last second of his life..."

4) Nicks Father Then Said: "...They did not know what they [AQ] were doing."

5) Nicks Father Then Said: "They [AQ] killed their best friend.'"

6) Nicks Father Said: "He was a Bush supporter,"

7) His Parents Said: "...he was a "staunch supporter of the government position in Iraq..."

If you stitch these together...

"He was a staunch Bush supporter; Al Quaida didn't know what they were doing, they killed their best friend.

The whole thing is stinky beyond belief

Considering the fact that arab nations span the entirety of the north african continent, millions of people have awakened for centuries realizing that Islam ruled there.

Because LOTS of terrorist sympathizers take their prayer shawls with them and wear a yarmulke.

I'm sure you didn't mean that the way it came out.

You said:

"Has anyone addressed why the govt claims he wasn't detained by US forces? The Bergs provided emails to the contrary."

Could you please copy'n'paste the text of said emails, or provide a link to them?

"He was apparently well known in his trade and could quickly establish his expertise. He did some work while there and did earn money. He had a dream about building cheap cell towers and getting rich. Remember he was raised in an leftist idealist enviorment and lacked real world common sense."

You really put the word "common" in common sense.

Both my husband and I heard the father say; "They don't know what they have done, he was a friend (to) or (of) the Al Queda.". I might have thought I heard him wrong except for the fact the News anchor, Rick, then came on and said; "He meant to say a friend of the Iraqi's."

I heard that too.

he claims that Berg made alot of money working

How? Non-military, non-assigned to a particular country person shows up in an occupied country and can get work easily and paid a lot to do it?

Who was paying him? Didn't those companies think it a little odd that a private individual is in Iraq? And he's not just digging ditches, but setting up cell phone towers. Wouldn't those employers want some proof of who he is beyond him showing a passport?

Something just doesn't add up here. Maybe if a company that did hire him came forward that could answer my above questions.

I hope you're right. But the Moussoui connection is too much of a coincidence. Was Berg well known in the trade, really? Or is that a cover? Does his company have a web site? Does he have any REAL references? These are they type of questions that need to be asked.
