Byrd put a sheet over his head when he got the letter.

Just a little footnote. One of the reasons that a hood is used on prisoners is because Iraqis spit like camels. TRUE!

The only "acting" Congress could have done was acting before the cameras and it has been doing plenty of that. Acting outraged about pranks played on poor, innocent murdering scum is something it does convincingly. Don't tell me you are falling for this RATmedia shiite.

The worst part is the indignation of so many of them, especially Dayton, about how the administration didn't "jump right on this and inform everybody."

"It does not explain why Hackworth felt it necessary to facilitate getting photos to CBS...."

If you consider that Hackworth loves to be in the news, for any reason, it falls into place. He's no longer accepted as a military "expert" due to his mistakes prior to and during the first Gulf War (He claimed 10,000 dead Americans would result from our kicking Saddam out of Kuwait, as I recall).

At this point, personally I view Hackworth as a gadfly more than anything else.

There was a bit on yesterday showing people lining up in Iraq to tell about their abuses by the Americans. One man, his arm wrapped in bandages, did his yada yada yada

They no doubt received their theatre training from the Palestinians, who are the masters of the camera.

The little bastard tried to get the Dems to get him off the hook. No doubt the Dems steered the information to CBS.

I think the general public figured out this is a political witchhunt over the weekend.

I hate to keep bringing this up, but the precedence for this was set by LTC West, who many here called a hero.

I have been thinking about penning an "I told you so" post on this for a few days now, but I don't know if it would do any good.

Lawson is a blackmailer in my book.

http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/bal-te.chip09may09,0,1354195.story?coll=bal-home-headlines

Frederick's family tried to persuade the Army to discharge Frederick and take away his pension, arguing that his actions were the result of orders given by others. Frederick's uncle, Bill Lawson, a retired Air Force master sergeant, said in an interview last week that the family also sent letters for help to 17 members of Congress.

When the Army refused and the members of Congress replied with form letters, Lawson contacted retired Col. David Hackworth, a syndicated columnist, who helped the family get in touch with Mary Mapes, a producer for CBS's 60 Minutes II, which broke the story.

"We gave [the military] the opportunity to have none of this come out," Lawson said. "They could have avoided all of this."

I did listen to Rumsfeld's testimony.

It seems to me that the more this becomes a political football and the more it's percevied that way by the public, the more it will diffuse the problem for the Bush administration. Hackworth may indeed be gunning for Bush and elected Republicans, but it doesn't seem that he's choosing the best way to achieve his goal. Time will tell.

And Bill O'Reilly was one of Col. West's biggest defenders.

He was also contacted by Mr. Lawson(Ivan Frederick's uncle), IIRC.

That does not surprise me. I said then, and I say now that West is a criminal who should be behind bars. When he was not punished, he gave a green light to those who are now responsible for shaming this administration. When West knew he was in trouble, he went straight to the media on the advice of his attorney. They bought his act hook, line and sinker, as did hundreds of Freepers.
