I love Rumsfeld. I hate to see Rummy get beat up and abused like this. It's just like watching your favorite uncle get kicked in the teeth (over and over again)--it's grueling to have to put up with. Yes, he does well, but I think the Left and the media have been cruel to him. I know he's a tough old man, but this is vicious.

The GQ atricle of Powell's men (his people) going on the record saying that Powell has had to put out fires sent by the Neocons in the administration, that he disagrees with a harline cuban policy (hello FLA) that "Condi is a jerk" and that the President is an idiot wasn't helpful. And you believe that BS??
Here is a little history of Powell
Back in 92/93 .. Powell stayed on as Joint Chief of Staff for Clinton after the Bush Administration
Well it didn't last very long with Clinton and Powell quit as fast as he could
If Powell didn't like working for President Bush (43) .. I'm thinking Powell wouldn't have a problem leaving
Since he hasn't? .. I'm thinking that article is BS

The single most important thing we can do is to identify the leaker. None of that Protect the Source crap, this is a matter of national security. If we have to throw the entire staff of CBS in jail until they decide to talk, than that's what we should do.

Of course, this "They had to have Condi's consent!!!"
should read that they had to have Colin's consent.

I think the media and the Left have behaved awfully and in ways consistent with treason. I think they must have polls telling them that it is safe to do this-- that troubles me to my core. They are and they don't care about polling because they don't think they are doing anything wrong .. Read the book Bias
I also think they have more energy on their side-- Code Pink,
Code Pink are whackos and the public see it
Why do you think the lefties always recruit college age kids .. Beside older folks are wiser and know they are nuts

Rummy did well. Perhaps he will not have to fall on his sword after all.
Ms Hillary made a major slip-up when she said that she knew more than him on the subject. And Rummy acted surprised at her statement and wondered how she knew more than the Defense Department. Hillary is not the smartest woman in the country, despite all her acclamations. Hang on for the ride. The leak came to Hillary, and probably from that female general who has been making the rounds with her lawyer, to cover her butt.

Read the article again, it was a contrived hit piece.
Do you think that Powell would put up a trail balloon in GQ? Do not be absurd. They are just in a coordinated attack on all player in the administration. You do not even know if Powell's "aide" is a Democrat or a Republican. He denied the whole thing and the media tried to spin it in a way that implied he was just keeping mum.
Powell is not a liberal, He was the JCS, for Pete's sake. He was loyal to Reagan, loyal to Bush Senior and loyal to W. If he had Democrat leaning he would have come out of the closet years ago. He "retired" rather than serve under Clinton.
First they tried calling him literally and "Uncle Tom" and implicitly a "House Ni**er." when that did not work they tried this idiotic "moderate" nonsense, as if the man the was in came to senior flag rank during the Reagan and Bush years would be some sort of closet Democrat just because of his race.
They come out with this "Powell is unhappy" nonsense every quarter and Powell shoots it down every time. I imagine he is tired of it.
You should get yourself a dog. It will help you. Try to control yourself, you are not helping anyone here with your propensity to get so emotional. Get a grip.

My point is that they must have polled to see what the American pub thinks about those pics, i suspect the results have emboldened them--they seem to be acting like there is no downside to their outrageousness. In additon, the liberal and mod Republicans are right with them leading the pack--polls guide these hacks, their piling on behavior suggests what the polls are saying.

kSomeone posted profiles of some of these prison guards. They had history in their civilian lives that might be called unsavory. It will all come out.

Major Garrett just said that the hearings were much more docile than expected. The rats looked at the polls which show most Americans support Rummy.

Remember when he felt compelled to give a pro Affirmative Action lecture at the RNC convention in 2000.
Powell isn't as secure as Condi. He is a McCain in many ways and he wants to be liked--he wants the Lefties in the media and Gov't to like him.
They went on the record. The tapes exist and they had Powell's permission. PERIOD!
To: cyncooper
Was this a staffer of a member of Congress who leaked the photos? Good question .. but no Weldon didn't say this staffer was involved with leaking the photos .. just that they were involved
And did Weldon say or imply that this person was going to be charged?
he just said that this staffer who was involved was not charged as of yet and could they (Rummy and the Generals) look into this person
IMO .. it sounds like think person got a transfer when the you know what started to hit the fan

There are at least 6 posts here that say ABC and WAPO polls are saying that 2/3rds of public is dismayed about the pictures; however, 60%-70% want Rummy to stay on as Secretary of Defense.
Those are not right leaning polls either.
You can bet internal polls are showing them that this is going nowhere and watch the backpedaling as less enthusiasm for these hearings grows.
