NOMINATIONS NEEDED: Free Republic's Peter Arnett Awards
Monday, April 26, 2004 | Kristinn

Posted on 04/26/2004 8:02:21 PM PDT by kristinn

Nominations are requested for Free Republic's Peter Arnett Awards 'honoring' those reporters, news organizations and public figures whose reporting and statements have given aid and comfort to the enemy and undermined morale in the war on terrorism like Mr. Arnett did last year with his infamous interview in Baghdad saying the Americans were losing the war against Saddam.

Nominations will be accepted until 6 p.m. EDT Wednesday, April 28. Voting will commence later that evening with the cutoff time to be announced when the voting thread is posted.

Please provide a source link or documentation where possible.

A couple nominees to get things started:

The Washington Post for its cheerleading of the so-called antiwar movement. Nearly every prominent antiwar leader has been sympathetically profiled in the Style section and nearly every antiwar protest, no matter how small, gets reported on in glowing terms. The Post has never reported in depth about the background, funding and true agendas of the major antiwar groups.

Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-Mass.) for his 'Iraq is Bush's Vietnam' speech. Kennedy's speech was used as a rallying cry by Muqtada Al Sadr who threatened that "Iraq will be another Vietnam for America."

The winners will be announced at the sixth annual freep of liberal bias in the media held outside the White House Correspondents Association dinner by the D.C. Chapter of FreeRepublic.com on Saturday, May 1.

NY Times for 'accidently' putting the next GOP Senator from Colorado, Mr Coor's picture in an article about the KKK.

How about a list of reporters who deserve NOT to be put on the list? It would be a lot shorter. My estimate is that 95% of the press are left-wing liars.

I was thinking of Ted Koppel and Nightline for their hysterical coverage of the supposed mass-looting of
Iraq's antiquities in the weeks after Iraq was liberated.

Thanks. It's not an exact fit, but we'll see what the voters think.

LA Slimes for the hit pieces on Arnold, and more importantly, completely ignoring Bustamante's racist MECHa ties.

Are there specific awards, and if so, can you post a list. It would be easier to match up people, publications or events into the right places that way. Thx.

Dr. Bob Arnott got dumped by NBC. He was one of the best reporters covering the war.

It's one award with a single criteria. There are no distinct categories. That way more than one reporter, news organization or public figure can win.

Hopefully we'll have enough suitable nominees and winners for ten awards.

Last year we had almost forty nominees for the Garofalos. The top ten vote getters got the dead crows on silver and gold platters.

I liked Dr. Bob too.
My nominee is Spittin' Chris Matthews. He's been unwatchable lately, imho.

Ron Fournier, AP Washington reporter, tireless in his editorializing throughout "news" stories and his unabashed bias.

Cheney Takes GOP Lead Challenging Kerry

"Cheney is the White House's designated attacker - held in reserve for the toughest times and sharpest messages. When the vice president goes negative, it usually means the White House is braced for trouble."

AND

"Cheney returned to the theme Monday, breaking little new ground while repeating the best lines from his March speech."

Typical judgments posing as straight news.

I nominate Hillary Clinton for her morale-killing trip to Iraq over Thanksgiving:

Hillary Rodham Clinton's Disloyal Opposition
Posted Dec. 10, 2003
By Kenneth R. Timmerman

Former Clinton White House adviser Dick Morris called it Hillary's "badwill tour of Iraq." Certainly Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's grousing to the troops brought no wild cheers, unlike the scene when President George W. Bush showed up unannounced on Thanksgiving Day to serve turkey to servicemen and women on combat duty in Baghdad. According to some reports, she is so unpopular among the armed forces that her Pentagon minders had to assign soldiers to greet her.

The former first lady, touted by many Democrats as their best hope at wresting the presidency from Bush in 2004, insisted that she had come to Baghdad to tell the troops that "Americans are proud" of them. But, she added, back home "many question the administration's policies." Then she launched into a personal attack on the president for having been "obsessed with Saddam Hussein for more than a decade." It was not exactly what you'd call a morale booster, and the troops hated it.

Al-Jazeera, the Qatar government's own jihad TV network, broadcast her remarks immediately in Arabic translation. To our enemies, the propaganda value of having a member of the U.S. Senate, who sits on the Senate Armed Services Committee, come to a war zone to criticize her president and express doubts about the leadership of the U.S. military was crystal clear. Al-Jazeera also gave prominent play to comments by her companion, fellow Democratic Sen. Jack Reed of Rhode Island, who opined that the administration's justification for the war was "tenuous at best" and that Americans "could look back and see the decision to attack Iraq was one that ended up being very, very costly."

Ron Fournier is a transplant brought here from Arkansas as Clinton's pet reporter. He can't write, nor can he hide his bias.... Good choice!
