Discussion Thread: Kerry's Appearance on GMA Regarding Medals
Good Morning America - ABC News

Posted on 04/26/2004 5:09:02 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

Let's see if I can kick this off.

During the promo at the beginning of the show, where he was standing by live in West Virginia, and throughout the interview itself, Kerry tried hard to keep this huge "what me worry?" smile plastered on his face. He coupled it with numerous condescending head shakes that seemed to imply "these poor benighted fools who so miserably misunderstand the greatness that is John Kerry."

"The Kerry meltdown is even 'funner' to watch than the Dean meltdown was."

Yes it is, perhaps because it's extended over a longer period, with more to watch. :)

The fact that he threw ANYONE'S ribbons/medals over the fence makes me sick.

I LOVE the part where he says "I really really really didn't want to do it, but there was a vote...... " He's just the boy who can't say no.

My freakin' cat has more integrity than this poor excuse for a man.

I've been pleasantly surprised by GMA recently. While they still lean left I've also heard both Charlie and Diane say "Our prayers are with you" and similar when they've interviewed different people. It also appears they are trying to appear neutral about politics. They let the bias appear through reporters like George Stephanapolous and even he's been somewhat fair in his coverage of President Bush.

Charlie appeared to be put out or somewhat disgusted with Kerry this morning. I also thought the commemoration of Tillman was well done on GMA.

I watch GMA most mornings since that ABC station is the only one with truly local news for my neck of the woods. All of the other stations originate out of OKC which is 75 miles away and the station I watch is 25 miles away.

Did you have a VCR in 1971? Did you know anyone who did?

Actually the Beta Max was invented in 1975 and and VHS came out at about the same time. So it is highly unlikely that someone recorded this off the air at home. A reel to reel Video Tape machine cost a lot of money in 1971... several thousand dollsrs.

The station where the show was taped and aired is WRC-TV in Washington D.C. It is an NBC station. Can you imagine an NBC station feeding a story exclusively to ABC. When Ford dealers promote Chevies... is when that will happen.

I think there was opposition research that discovered this tape. Perhaps an interveiw with a Viet Nam vet who hates Kerry and vividly remembered the show started someone looking for a tape. Many stations got rid of old Video tapes when they finally went to storing video on computer hard drives. CNN for example went to Hard drive video in 1997.

The question is who got the old tape from whom and when did they get it.

An even more important question isis who shopped the tape to ABC. It was not likely something done by the Bush Camp. If Bush's people had done it the first thing ABC woudl have done is played the tape and trashed the Bush camp for (GASP)secret and mean spirited negative campaigning.

That leaves the Clinton's or some Democratic operative as the source. ABC would cover for them, and gladly trash Kerry if that is what the Clinton's wanted done.

How much damage would it do to Hillary, and Kerry if the source of the tape could be tied to Hillary.

Hillary the gal that destroyed Democratic Chances in 2004, would put a huge dent in her future.

I would betcha the source was not a Republican and not a journalist.

Kerry is a real pr*ck. He has been a waffling, cynical douche bag since the doctor slapped him on the a$$. He was discgraceful on GMA this morning--I don't know how anybody could vote for this lying, condescending, un-American stooge. Kerry is a real low life.

He called the President "George Bush"? Looks like he is getting angry and desperate if he declines to follow common courtesy by prefixing the word "President", as is usually done.

I wish GMA had asked why John Lehman's signed his Silver Star and Bronze Star medal citations ...

Is it possible that he really did throw his medals away and had to request replacements? Or perhaps he threw his citations away, and when he realized he'd need them for his political career, he had to get new ones signed by Lehman?

I think you missed one flip (or is it a flop?) After he threw whatever it was over the fence, he told an interviewer he threw his medals over the fence.

Hillary can do no wrong. In fact, neither Clinton can do wrong. They are Gods! She could hold a press conference and say, "I leaked the tape to the press because I don't think Kerry is good for America." Her poll numbers would be 60%. Sad but true.

Don't blame me!

Kerry said you get a "tiny ribbon" to wear with our civilian clothes ...

(They DO wear medals on civilian clothes that way in the Soviet Union.... Maybe he is just confused about which military he served under.)

Kerry failed back then and even today to realize the merit of a Purple Heart. Throwing a Purple Heart anywhere is an act of irreverence toward the medal, the meaning and all recipients. Kerry's imperious attitude is contributing to his overall lack of appeal. I am starting to sense that even some of the liberal news readers are cringing at his lofty and airheaded excuses for his disregard for his fellow military men then and now. You do not understand or how could you possibly know or I was the one that stopped the war in Vietnam is getting old real fast. John Forbes Kerry assisted millions to come under cruel and murderous Communist rule. Millions in Vietnam can thank Kerry for the brutal and iron fisted government they now enjoy. Do us all a favor Senator Kerry, retire to Nantcucket and wind surf each day. The nation will be far better off.

No.

To get replacements, you can just go to any Armed Forces Exchange, or to the Pentagon Uniform Shop. That doesn't change the paperwork (official letter) GIVING you the medal.

These were completely new citations, revised from earlier versions that had been signed by his admirals, each citation clearly signed with Lehman's signature.

I'll bet anyone who threw their DD 214 over the fence had a certified copy somewhere else.

...snicker.

Kerry is lying. You do get a "tiny" ribbon, and I hate using the word "tiny" to describe it. But it's to wear on your dress uniform for travel or even at work if your job allows you to wear dress at work. You wear the medals for special occasions such as memorials, change of command ceremonies, etc.

For instance, the Medal of Honor is actually on a ribbon worn around your neck. You wouldn't wear that to get on an airplane and fly home. You'd wear the corresponding ribbon.

Kerry is making this stuff up as he goes along.

"I guess the big question now is why did ABC put the wood to Kerry?"

One of two reasons probably or combo of the two:

1. The old Clinton/DNC trick of getting bad news on tv or in print early. Then, they can say that it is old news and time to move on.

2. Eisner as per $inator HildeBea$t ordered this hit on the lying Weasel, al Querry.

With his psycho/super rich elitist wife and his own elitism, we will have constant SUV moments, medal moments, no tax revelation moments for Ms Heinz and other embarrassing moments until he buries himself re the election.

I'm sure that their focuc groups are showing that the attacks on GW failed and actually helped GW. Then, when he opens his mouth and the lies fly out, he loses more moderate votes. They can't win this November with just the votes of the insane voters of the lunatic left. They need moderate votes. He is losing those voters at a rapid rate.
