I saw it Meek. What a terrible tradegy.

Freedom is not free and his sacrifice was not in vain.

"Pat Tillman, a U.S. Army Ranger and former Arizona Cardinals strong safety, is being reported dead in Afghanistan, according to news reports.

Who is ESPN to give a award to the Tillmans?

They're Americans. And Pat Tillman was part of their community before he joined the Army. They've a right, and a duty, to honour the sacrifice of one who was once their brother. I, at least, am glad to know that they are doing so.

Last week, our area--Green Bay WI--buried two Marines few people knew before their heroic deaths in Iraq. I grieved for them and their families. I grieve for Pat Tillman's family now.

The hard thing about war is that young men and young women die. The pain we feel about Pat Tillman's death is that we all knew of him. It's like a kick in the gut, and it brings the war home as deeply as it does if he were a member of the family.

I wonder if the Dims are happy about Tillman's death? They now have another rich, affluent boy who died!

Tillman embodies what sacrifice is all about!

He gave up something incredibly substantial in life as well as life itself in order to defend the rest of us from the evil of Islamic terrorists and in defense of this nation and for the safety of all people here!

The others who have served are no less heroic or any less sacrificial in terms of their untimate sacrifices. Every last one of these men and women who have lost their lives needs to be remembered and applauded and posthumously thanked along with all other veterans who served in all wars not simply looking for scrapes and scratches so that they could go home.

It's also high time that the politicians and military leaders start doing what is in the best interests of the troops themselves in order to help them defend themselves.

Unfortunately it often takes a high profile person to bring to the forefront some of the realities of these situations.

SEMPER FI and Godspeed to all who remain over there and serve proudly. And do serve proudly!!! Most of America supports you all!

Honor and integrity were this man's middle names - the length of a man's life never determines the value of it! He was worth much more than the NFL contract he turned down to go give his life in service for the US...God bless this man's family and his parents for raising such a fine human being.

This looks like a fairly good site about the Rangers, history and stories. Those with firsthand knowledge please let us know if there are better sites out there.

How can this be? The DemonRats keep telling us that poor kids with no job opportunities are the only ones who die in American wars.

Mr Tillman was truly an American Patriot and a great loss. We need more people like him.

Why does God let MEN like this die young and jackasses like Ted "the drunk" Kennedy live an eternity(on earth)?

Then they wouldn't be heroes, would they?

God bless Tillman, and God bless our other heroes. And may God bless America.

What the West should do in Tillman's memory:

1)Stop all visas and travel from the barbarian nations.

2) Deport all from the barbarian nations that have overstayed their visas.

3) Any of the barbarians that advocate jihad in the West while living in the West should be thrown out on their ears.

4) Prepare ourselves to use any and all weapons against the barbarians.

5) If the bs continues--mass deportations of the barbarians.

6) Also a Manhattan project for alt fuels and in the Leftist cities--SN Fran, LA, NYC --we should mandate hybrid cars. It doesn't sound pleasant, but we have to change our way of life. Let those barbarians drink their oil.

7) We should take out Iran's nuke facilities.

8) Next terror attack on our soil, we shouldn't do a massive invasion, we should take out (for all time) the usual suspects. We should change the map forever.

GWB should make an exception and go to his funeral.

Tillman was probably the most unselfish sports hero known today. He didn't want his stature as an highly paid top notch NFL player to rise above his comrades in the military, so I would imagine he would have wanted it that way in the event he was killed. Would be commendable, but I truly think he wouldn't have wanted to be singled out as a hero among a larger group of heroes. They're all heroes. I say that's probably what he wanted.

I am a retired NFL Lineman that is active with the retired players. The NFL should find a way to honor Pat in some lasting way. I would bet that you could not find many current NFL players that would give up what Pat did to just to get into the Army. All the current players care about is money and who is kissing their Butts. Pat is a true American Hero and may the Good Lord bless him, his family and loved ones.

I agree as well. Renaming the stadium would be fitting where the Arizona Cardinals play would be fitting.

Thank you, Peach. Its not about me though. I am just so saddened by this. This young man while no more brave and wonderful than all the young people who serve, was someone that was a beacon of hope for the future of our country. Pat Tillman may yet have done more for his nation than even he imagined, as long as the spirit that he embodied is influential with those coming after him. When I arrived here this morning, the first post I read was about Maurice Clarett. Contrasting that young man with Pat Tillman makes me wonder how this nation could produce two such different types of individual.

Teary thanks for the photo.

I was thinking this morning that all of us who flew our flags on vehicles, etc. on 9/11 need to do it again now to show our men and women in uniform that they have our undying love, respect, and support...just so they'll know we all are with them despite the doom and gloom shades of Vietnam coming from our shameless partisan nat'l news media, and leftist politicians. The impact of this news about Pat Tillman just reinforces that feeling, because I wouldn't put it past these sons and daughters of the devil to try to use this sad occasion in yet another attempt to divide and demoralize.
