Terri Schiavo has not had visitors in 24 days. Terri has also been held prisoner in a single hospice room, unable to go outside for 1,473 days. Seeing those numbers really hit home with me. So I called Governor Bush. I said, "Terri Schiavo has not had visitors in 24 days. She's been imprisoned in her room for 1,473 days. She's a prisoner and she's in danger. Have the Governor or DCF take guardianship of her." Tomorrow I will call the Governor's office again and say, "Terri Schiavo has not had visitors in 25 days. She's been imprisoned in her room for 1,474 days. She's a prisoner and she's in danger. Have the Governor or DCF take guardianship of her." And so begins Project Annoying Empathy. Everyday I'm going to call the Governor's office and remind them how long Terri's been mistreated. I'll remind them that although they will allowed go outside today and they may see their loved ones, Terri will not. She's not a patient. She's a prisoner. She's in danger. She need the Governor's assistance to reclaim her rights as a human being. I am going to call them everyday. I've said my thank yous with all my heart to the Governor for Terri's Law, but there's a clause in that law for guardianship. He needs to use it. Who knows what stunts Michael might pull next. Any of you that want to join me, come on! The Governor's office number is 850-488-4441. Yes, this is a tad ridiculous, but so is allowing a disbled woman to be locked up like a criminal. It might not accomplish anything, but I can't just continue to do nothing. Maybe the numbers will strike a chord. Bradford County Citizens Hold Rally along SR 301 in Starke to Denounce Michael Schiavo's on going attempt to have his disabled wife's (Terri Schiavo's) feeding tube pulled.

On April 24, 2004, beginning at 8 o'clock am., and lasting until 5 o'clock p.m., local residents will hold protest in front of the Bradford County Courthouse located at SR 301 in Starke, Florida

Why? Terri Schiavo has no living will. In other words, Michael Schiavo (Who has been living with a woman for about 8 yrs, and has two children with that woman), visa Attorney George Felos , is using the Florida Judicial System to redefine the word "dead" to include his brain injured wife.(There are presently 25,000 human beings, living throughout our country, who are in the same situation as Terri Schiavo.)

This is my last comment on this thread, then, to the delight of probably everyone here, I will show myself to the door.

Not once did I say anything negative about the content of the post. I happen to think it's a very noble cause, and one which I will help out with. However. . .

The difference between a jumbled mess of words, and a formatted, properly spaced paragraphed post is huge in the impact it can make. You wouldn't write a letter to the President that looked like that. In fact, if you wrote a letter to Jeb Bush about Terri and it looked like that, I would wager it would never make it onto his desk.

Compared to the serious subject of this post, I'll be the first to admit that my complaints were minor. Call it a pet peeve. Words mean things. Using them correctly is important.

I will also admit that I could have chosen a more friendly way to make my point. I am sorry.

TERRI'S NEW BED: I spoke with one of the state investigators last week who actually saw Terri. She said Terri has recently been placed on a bed which is gauged by her height and weight, allowing for automatic repositioning. The inspector said she had never seen a bed of such technology and had wished all the patients she sees in nursing homes had one. So, your calls to the AHCA and DCF obviously did help Terri and consequently, she now has a nice bed. :-) The inspector was vague but did tell me that Terri was sitting up in a chair and was dressed when she spontaneously visited with her. I'm waiting on a written report of their findings and have been calling them on a daily basis to obtain one. :-)

UPDATE ON VISITATION: DAY 25 - family kept from Terri due to ongoing investigation of (FAKE HOAX by hubby's atty my thoughts FV). Above from a supporter 4-21-04

In a different message which may be on a different thread, in response to a comment I made a few days ago about what I really think, you (FL) said "Try me".

That's not so easy. I'll give you a very short version.

When I first started reading about Terri, my reaction was that the feeding tube should get pulled. I would not want my life to be extended by artificial means, and that's the way I looked at it.

I have since turned 180 degrees on this. I think removing her feeding tube would be tantamount to murder.

This is a complicated thing.

I think I could kill someone in self-defense. I would not want to, but I could do it and not regret it. Not much.

The worst decision I ever made, however, was for my wife (and I) to get an abortion one time when an unexpected preganacy ocurred. I feel that decision was evil. I wish I could take it back.

I think removing Terri's feeding tube would be about the same as that.

I also think that if Michael kicked in and cared for her -- held her hand, spent time with her, talked to her, etc -- she might stand a chance of improving. With him not doing that, it is essentially the same as removing her tube.

I consider that to be immoral.

Today, the Second District Court of Appeals affirmed Judge W. Douglas Baird's decision for venue in Pinellas County in the matter of Schiavo v. Bush. That means that this case will remain in Pinellas County and in Baird's court. You will recall that Judge Baird had stated the Terri's Law, the law that enabled Governor Bush to intervene and restore Terri's sustenance, is 'presumptively unconstitutional'.

Additionally, Michael Schiavo, through his attorney, George Felos, has asked that Judge Baird issue a summary judgment on the constitutionality of Terri's Law, without allowing Governor Bush discovery or the ability to take depositions.

Today's action by the Second District Court of Appeals paves the way for Judge Baird to summarily pass judgment that Terri's Law is unconstitutional.

BREAKING.....

On April 20, 2004, Attorney Deborah Bushnell (who represents Michael Schiavo) faxed a letter to Attorney Patricia Anderson (who represents Bob and Mary Schindler, Terri's parents).

In that letter, Ms. Bushnell stated that Terri has had five teeth extracted.

Ms. Bushnell offered no reasonable explanation of why this was done, if Terri was appropriately anesthetized, what follow-up care is being prescribed nor if any restorative dental work was to be provided to her.

For years, in court, Terri's family has argued that Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo had not provided her proper dental care - among other things. Now, Terri has had five teeth removed.

As of this writing, it is unknown what, if anything, is being done to address this problem. Terri's parents are unable to get clear information regarding their daughter's condition.
