Persistent and Loyal Friends of Terri and of the U.S. Constitution,

I'm home from today's hearing which was held at the Criminal Courthouse Complex on 49th Street, Clearwater before Judge W. Douglas Baird.

Once I collect my thoughts from today's hearing which just adjourned about a half an hour ago, I'll post them here. Initially, I wasn't going to do any reporting re: the hearing but it was enlightening.

I learned today in the hallway that Terri's parents, siblings and other relatives are still unable to see her some three weeks later due to the criminal investigation of what may have been mosquito bites. But, that's a different legal matter.

Bradford County Citizens Hold Rally along SR 301 in Starke to Denounce Michael Schiavo's on going attempt to have his disabled wife's (Terri Schiavo's) feeding tube pulled.

On April 24, 2004, beginning at 8 o'clock am., and lasting until 5 o'clock p.m., local residents will hold protest in front of the Bradford County Courthouse located at SR 301 in Starke, Florida

Large picket signs will include: “Terri is an American, Too” – “We Love Terri” “America Give Terri a Helping Hand ” - “Terri is a Human-being” - “Florida Doesn't kill her disabled.”

Why? Terri Schiavo has no living will. In other words, Michael Schiavo (Who has been living with a woman for about 8 yrs, and has two children with that woman), visa Attorney George Felos , is using the Florida Judicial System to redefine the word "dead" to include his brain injured wife.(There are presently 25,000 human beings, living throughout our country, who are in the same shape as Terri Schiavo.)

On April 24, 2004, Starke citizens will call on Governor Jeb Bush, and every member of the Florida Congress to do two things:

1. Take Terri Schiavo and place her under State care...... 2. Strike down Jim King's pro-death law, he calls his legacy, and replace it with a law that protects the right-to-life of the disabled, when there is no living will.

“For Any state in the Union to promote death over life in the name of ‘Dying with dignity’ is a perversion beyond belief. Think of the disabled human beings who will be ‘haunted’ by the ghost of Terri Schiavo's death, if the pro-death people succeed in having her legally killed by starvation. We support Terri Schiavo's right to life ... please don't kill the disabled.”

(I believe there will be at least 50 to over 100 people at the Starke Rally for Terri).

Connect the Dots ... for Terri

• "When Bucky the Labrador collapsed, she[Terri] performed mouth-to-nose resuscitation on him. He died in her arms."
• She (Terri) once ran into the house crying because she had run over a rabbit. No one could console her. Her father went outside, came back, and said she was mistaken, there was no dead rabbit in the road. When she finally calmed down and left the room, her dad said, "Man, she nailed it."
• "She [Terri] went down my throat about this joke [about Karen Ann Quinlan], that it was inappropriate," [her best friend, Diane] Meyer said. She remembers Terri wondering [the summer before meeting Michael] how the doctors and lawyers possibly could know what Quinlan was feeling or what she would want. "Where there's life," Meyer recalls Schiavo saying, "there's hope."
• In an affidavit... [Michael's girlfriend for six months in 1992, Cyndi] Shook quoted Michael Schiavo as saying: "How the hell do I know what to do with her. We never talked about this when we were married. We were young and this was never talked about."
• Michael shows the 1992 malpractice jury how responsive Terri is to him.

  

  In late 1992, a jury agrees that Terri should live about 41 additional years, and it awards Michael a Million dollar lawsuit for Terri's rehabilitation. He soon afterwards, stops all physical therapy and rehabilitation, and issues a do-not-resucitate order.
• In 1996, Michael asked Jodi Centonze to marry him and she said YES. Michael testified under oath that Jodi is his fiancee. They now have two children together. State law prohibits guardians for the disabled who have significant conflicts of interest.
• In 1998, Michael suddenly recalled that Terri 'wished to die' rather than live with an inconspicuous feeding tube under her clothing. Many disabled people live nearly normal lives with the same kind of feeding tube.
• In 1999, it became legal for the first time to kill Florida's disabled by removing their feeding tubes. Any 'verbal contract' Michael and Terri might have had before 1990 to kill each other this way, would have been murder at that time and thus illegal.
• In 2003, Michael and his lawyer nearly convinced the world that Terri is "PVS" - which by Florida's definition is:
  • The absence of voluntary action or cognitive behavior of any kind.
  • An inability to communicate or interact purposefully with the environment.
• In 2004, The Pope rules that the disabled MUST be fed, and life-sustaining feeding tubes are NOT medical 'treatment'. Terri, a devout Catholic who spent K-12 in Catholic Schools would CERTAINLY honor the Pope's ruling, and choose to live.

Terri starts out apparently asleep. A doctor wakes her to start his tests.

Doctor: Terri. Open your eyes up...

Terri: (Startled at hearing her name. She starts moving her mouth and fluttering her eyes, like a person who is just waking up)

Doctor: Open your eyes, Terri open your eyes

Terri: (slowly at first, Terri struggles to open her eyes, then turns toward the doctor, and opens her eyes a normal amount)

Doctor: There you go, good.

Terri: (then, either to show off(?) or wanting to perform well, she leans further forward toward the doctor, looks straight at him and opens her eyes as WIDE AS SHE CAN. Note the WRINKLES ACROSS HER FOREHEAD caused by her also RAISING HER EYEBROWS as high as possible )

Doctor: [now obviously impressed] GOOD!! GOOD JOB! GOOD JOB YOUNG LADY! Good Job.

• Mar 29, 2004. Michael makes up a ruse to deny ANY Schindlers from visiting Terri, who has recently developed a bedsore, lost two teeth for unexplained reasons, had two life-threatening vomiting sessions, and only rarely gets bathed. Judge Greer that same week gave the Schindler's a Catch-22: Either PROVE Michael ordered the nursing home to NOT share Terri's medical information, or else no court action or investigation will occur. The nursing home then continues to blackout information to Terri's parents, while Michael forces them to stay physically off-site.

Today, Greta Van Susteren did a paragraph on Terri in her "Greta Wire". Below is that text plus the two before it for context...

Which brings me to another issue. Many of you have asked me why I don't interview Senator Hillary Clinton (search). I would like to interview her (I did interview her at a previous network and I am sure she enjoyed the interview.) The answer to why I have not interviewed her since I have been at Fox is easy: Her office won't return calls to me. I have tried calling her office, but I have had no luck. I can't get my call returned.

Frankly, it is the only U.S. Senator's office that has declined to return my personal calls. Staff members usually have better manners in my experience. I confess I have not tried in the last few months -- at some point one gets smart and figures out that the exercise is futile. I am a bit perplexed why I can't get Senator Clinton on the show especially when she has done many shows talking about her book and our show is easily winning the ratings contest in the 10 p.m. ET slot. As an aside, no member of the Senate has ever complained about my interviews of them.

I have also been asked many times by viewers to update the Terri Schiavo case. I would very much like to do a few segments on Terri Schiavo since her case raises many very important issues. I am fortunate in that, because I have an hour every night, I can always find time for these very important issues like the ones that Terri's plight raises. Any time her family, or her husband wants to come on the show to talk about Terri, I will gladly have them. Note: I have also asked Governor Jeb Bush to talk about his role in this case, but he is shying away from talking about it. Like the Schiavo family, he has an open invitation.

This question is not directed to you. Rather, it is directed to Terri's legal team. Perhaps Phenn could pass that list on them for their action - presuming all or only a few of them have been presented to the court.

Thanks for the ping. Sometimes I miss the important Terri posts, so I always appreciate it when someone notifies me. My life has been chaos lately, so I haven't had time to do any more than pray for Terri, and keep up to date on her situation. I look forward to being able to spend some time again on letter writing, phone calls, etc. In the mean time, thanks to everyone for keeping me updated.

I have tapes of most of Felos' press conferences INCLUDING his direct accusation that the family criminally assaulted Terri's arms and the crazy scenario that was FABRICATED as it does not match up with the family's last visit with Terri that Monday.

I have some tapes, but not that one.

Felos is a squirrel. His allegations are slanderous and the court needs to put a gag order on him, plus hold him accountable.

Though we rarely watch Larry King, he had Hillary on tonight. Has been coached to the max - broad subject matter. But, she still can't get past inserting "you know."

She is definitely "reaching out." California's Democrat Harmon and Conneticutt's Republican Shays later slathered and blathered Hillary's knowledge, her popularity, and her ability and experience to be #2 with Kerrey.
