Barbara (L) and Jenna Bush, the daughters of U.S. President George W Bush, walk together from the Darnall Army Community Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas, April 11, 2004 after President Bush (news - web sites) and members of his family visited with soldiers wounded in Iraq (news - web sites). Bush awarded 10 purple hearts to troops recovering in the hospital, after attending an Easter Sunday Church service at a chapel within the army base in central Texas.

"what I'm saying is they were dressed conservatively and "in" fashion"

That is fine. You can say it all you want but that doesn't change the fact that you are wrong. Wearing an old jean jacket over an Easter dress is neither in fashion nor dressing conservatively.

Wearing a bright green dress with provocative white graphics and spaghetti straps is not dressing conservatively. It is also not fashionable, since part of dressing fashionably means to dress for the occasion. Jenna's dress is fine for going to visit the bars on Sixth Street down in Austin on a Saturday night, but is not fashionable to wear to Easter Services at an army base in central Texas.

I like Bush just fine. He is better than his Dad and I voted for both him and his Dad, but he is not as conservative so in my opinion not as good as Ronald Reagan as a president. Bush is much better than Kerry would be so I will be voting for him in November.

Just because I do not like the way those girls are dressed in this one instance does not mean that I am a DU troll. Not everyone on this forum has to agree about everything.

sounds like the preacher cant focus if he looks out at the congregation and sees a nice pair of shoulders or a good looking leg. Kind of creepy to me. Men who are thinking about women, usually teen age boys, can get all sexed up at the sight of an elbow for goodness sakes.

"My niece and her friends are quite another story."

Sounds like they were not raised right.

Deme dear, can we just be frank. We think you are an opinionated old fuddy duddy. That is all. We think you are back in the last century. We think you don't know the new rules of fashion, nor young people. And we also think your daughter is smoking, drinking and probably doing unspeakable things behind your back. Otherwise, you are a fine conservative. Have a nice day darling.

I think people who have experienced events first hand get a clear understanding of just how biased news coverage can be. I read an AP article about the President's trip to El Dorado Arkansas at ABC News online and read the coverage of a local newspaper. The difference was starkly revealing of national "partisan media" bias. President Bush had been teasing a woman on stage with him at a community college roundtable discussion about using the same hair dye as his mother, or something like that. It was all in good fun and the woman loved every minute of it. The AP reporter commented about President Bush liking to use humor to insult people and that the woman wasn't amused. It was a totally subjective opinion with no basis in fact, or a boldfaced lie...take your pick.

Terayza is practing dem photo-op religion, not Catholicism.

That's my take on it .. and yes, unless it is a special occasion/reason .. I've never seen catholics bring their own bible to church

The books for the readings, gospel, prayers and hyms are ALREADY there in the pew for parishioners to read from

Yeah. Now if Jenna were forty pounds heavier and three inches shorter and wore that outfit in a size or two smaller, I would be railing. And if they had on alot of make up I would be snickering. But never would I say their parents were responsible. They are grown ups and sometimes a good parents has to grit the teeth and let them do their thing and suffer the agony of watching them do it knowing it is their life. Now as to underpants, I think we never lose the obligation to insist on keeping them on most of the time when out shopping, lunching, dating, etc. I am a great believer in the underpants rules.

I am sad to see how many hits you are taking by (even some church-going) FReepers because you are standing on the side of decency, modesty, restraint, and propriety.

I was raised to do the right thing regardless of what everybody else was doing, and my parents applied this to fashion as to everything else.

It is important to let one's light shine. There is no honor in causing its light to be obscured so folks will ogle the candle.

The reaction is a measure of how far our culture has moved.

"He's one of the "I'll hold my nose and vote for him -- maybe" voters."

Nope, I'll vote happily for Bush, because he is far better than the alternative.

I always vote straight Republican ticket, since if a Democrat is conservative, he or she ought to get out of the Democrat party and become a Republican.

I do wish Bush was more conservative, but I live in the real world where lots of folks are not as conservative as I am. The idea is to win elections. I do not agree with those on this forum who bash Bush for not being tough enough on illegal immigration or for spending too much on social programs. I think the guy is doing the best he can under less than ideal conditions. I am not one of those who demand perfection from Republicans. I think that the perfect is the enemy of the good.

I hope this helps.
