A Boston Surprise this Summer?

The Democrats have hitched their Presidential hopes to one of the strangest nominees in a long time, John Kerry. His cold aloofness, his thin-skinned nastiness, his habit of marrying wealthy women and living grandly on the proceeds, and his unique propensity for deep-cutting self-satire (“I voted for it before I voted against it”), make him remarkably unappealing to the non-ideological swing voters who will decide the election.

Recall for a moment that the only reason he became the front-runner was the Democrats’ desperation in the wake of the Howard Dean public meltdown. Prior to that moment, Kerry’s campaign had gone nowhere. He was tested and rejected by the activists anxious to back a winner. Only by virtue of his ability to mortgage a house purchased with his wife’s late husband’s money was his campaign even alive to pick up the pieces.

His sole positive attribute is his putatively heroic war record in Vietnam. But political gossip-mongers have long known that it is only a matter of time before serious questions about that record reach the public arena. Kerry received three medals, and an early exit from the combat zone, based on self-reported injuries which caused him to miss but one day of work.

Keep in mind that there are still almost 200 days left before the election. There is plenty of time for second and third thoughts about Kerry, on the part of America’s non-ideological voters, and plenty for them to think over. The vetting of candidate Kerry has only just begun.

But of course, Kerry isn’t really the nominee yet. He is only the “presumptive nominee.”

So it is time to seriously wonder if the Democrats might not exercise what we can call the “Torricelli Gambit.”

I'd advise the Democrats to pick Phil Bredesen. He's a Southern Democrat tough on spending and taxes. Don't worry, the loony Left will never take up on my advice.

Republicans should be loudly and publicly speculating about the Toricelli Option as a way to preempt it, by forcing the Democratic leadership to disavow it. The more it's publicized in advance, the less likely it is that the Dems could actually get away with it.

The DNC convention is July 26-29. The switch would have to be later than that to take advantage of the American people and avoid scrutiny of the new Dem nominee. The Dems are entirely capable of that, of course. The question then becomes how to get Hillary's name on ballots in late Sept or early Oct.

Kerry is such an all-around horrible candidate on so many levels that I will not be surprised to see a RESTORE GORE campaign at the Demoncrats convention.

Can Hillary be nominated from the floor?

Kerry has sufficient delegates committed to him to win on the first ballot. They may not leave him without his permission until after the first ballot.

Therefore, for Hillary to be nominated from the floor, one of two conditions must obtain:

1. Kerry voluntarily releases his delegates prior to the first ballot. I don't think this egotistical, overbearing fool is willing to do that.

2. Kerry is the victim of an Arkanicide prior to the first ballot.

If the 2nd event happens, and Hillary wins on a floor nomination, KBTD.

Good points from both of you. I've always believed that Hillary! could never survive a normal presidential vetting process. Sneaking her in at the last minute is her only option to win, an option that appears to be very real.

Perhaps this has been the Democrat plan all along. Kerry agrees to carry the baton only part way;

then, when there is little time left for the public to vet Hillary as the Democratic nominee, she will take over.

The bulk of the delegates are pledged to HAVE to vote for Kerry. But, if Kerry himself released them--and even endorsed another candidate--they could. I believe that only the Super delegates can vote any way they want to.

If they don't follow the rules, and Kerry fights it at all, they'll lose.

Isn't it that the major parties are automatically on the ballot in all 50 states before their nominees are known so that how ever the machination is done on the ground, whoever is designated by the RATs as their nominee is set. If that's correct, it would allow Her Heinous to do the Torch routine with no problem.

Of course, the alternate and far easier course is to make her the VP nominee so she can simply move up when Flipper materializes in Fort Marcy Park with clean shoes and covered in carpet fibers.

There is, of course, a minor problem with Paul's candidacy. They may have to go with "Lautenberg and Gore - Democrats of Yore in '04!"

In fact, there is some truth in this concern about Kerry. There are kerrorist issues and questions that shouldn't be surfaced before the convention for fear of knocking him out. Knockout issues might be the fact that he faked his own awards in Nam, that his wife is a Communist and was actually married to an African-African before/while she married wealthy Heinz, that he has a total of 127 personal household servants in all his family palaces and less than half are legally in the US, or that there are lots of pictures of him with various girl friends over the past 3 years, smoking weed.

Kerry is an arrogant, wealthy frat boy who only serves in the Senate because it beats working. Let us hope that the rest of the world doesn't recognize this before Boston.

Hillary has said so much she won't run I honestly can't see this happening. Everyone is freaked out about Hillary, but she just won't run. It isn't going to happen, even if people nominate her on the floor if they can.
