A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome to TGIF at the Finest!   We hope you've been having as much fun as we have with our essays and/or spotlight on various FReepers. From the beginning, we've been kicking back on Saturdays and Sundays and simply reviewing the features of the week; our weekend threads now start on Friday and continue through Sunday. If you missed seeing any of this week's threads and want to say hello there now, just click on the link for that particular day. If you'd like to drop in and out of this thread today through Sunday, please feel free to do that also. One of us will try to be around to see the welcome mat is still out, put the coffee pot on, and maybe even bring fresh flowers for the table. : )

I hope you choose Billie. You're too unstable. :-)

Well, I wouldn't want to disappoint you. I choose Billie. (You're strangely off your stride today, ignoring the tipos.)

Hi Billie, I just found out that I missed my favorite state spotlighted on Tues. Makes me sad. But today was a good day in WV.

Okay. I watched the President's appearance in Huntington at Marshall Univ. on the local. I could have been there had I known the details because one of my friends was sitting directly behind the President. He's head of our local Marshall Univ. branch, and we are both on the Tourism Committee. I'm gonna get him for not getting me an invitation (the event was by invitation only). When you watch the clips, he is the white haired, slighly balding man so behind the President you only get a glimps of him. The President hit another home run and I'm so thankful that it was carried live on the local TV stations. There were the obligatory Union protestors outside, but they were gettiing rained on LOL. The President sat on a stool the whole time as he made his standard speech about "when someone provides a good or a service, they need workers..etc." He pointed out today's good news, 308,000 jobs in March. He touched on the need for an energy bill and included the point that in his budget there is $400M for "clean coal" tech. That resonates with WVirginians. He "interviewed" six people who were sitting beside him. One who heads up Marshall Community College, explaining how easy it is to attend for job training. One who heads up a "One Stop" place where people can get help with re-training, job search and placement, etc. One who started her own Physical Therapy business with three employees and now provides jobs for 45. One a young mother who qualified for re-training who will graduate soon and double the salary she was making before. One a young man who was a restaurant manager who went to MUCC and became an IT specialist. He provides networking services and assists handicapped people who need computer skills. He was red-headed and the President asked him if people ever call him red. He replied, "yes, but I've never figured out why." Everyone laughed and the President said, "Watch it, I'm the funny one around here." Another big laugh. I can't recall the sixth person for some reason (senior moment). The crowd was enthusiastic and was a whole lot happier looking than kerry's crowd a few weeks ago in Charleston, WV. The President was so relaxed and he did a masterful job of interacting with the interviewees. He was funny too. I believe he will get a good boost in WV with this appearance.

Chess Master

Read: Isaiah 48:17-22

He caused the waters to flow from the rock for them; He also split the rock, and the waters gushed out. —Isaiah 48:21

Bible In One Year: Judges 19-21; Luke 7:31-50

An intriguing painting is on display in the Louvre in Paris. It portrays Faust (the legendary German magician who bartered away his soul to the devil) sitting across from Satan at a chessboard. Satan is gloating over what appears to be the checkmate of Faust's king. The magician's expression is that of a beaten man.

According to an often told story, a famous chess master visited the gallery one day and studied the painting with great care. All at once he startled everyone around him by shouting excitedly, "It's a lie! It's a lie! The king and the knight have another move."

Isaiah assured the people of Judah that God always provides a way of escape. Although they would be deported to Babylon because of their sinfulness, Isaiah prophesied that a future day of release would come when they would have to leave hurriedly. But they wouldn't have to worry. Just as God had provided water for the Israelites in the desert, He would also provide for them on their long trek homeward.

Many of us have experienced situations that appeared hopeless. We saw no way out, but we prayed and God opened a way. He made that "impossible" move. We can trust Him. He can never be checkmated. —Herb Vander Lugt

When problems seem impossible
And we can't face another day,
The Lord extends His helping hand
And shows us He can make a way. —Sper

God is the only King who can never be defeated.
