US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks

The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.

"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.

Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.

"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.

The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.

A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

Suspicious letter deemed anthrax hoax

A power company employee Monday found herself opening a letter determined later to be an anthrax hoax, a Sierra Pacific Power Co. spokeswoman said.(snip)

Homemade bombs injure 5 (Rochester, NY)


(April 21, 2004) — Three homemade explosive devices went off in the area of Pioneer Street in Rochester on Tuesday night, injuring three youths as well as two city police officers who had responded after the first explosion.
All of the injuries were minor, said Sgt. Steve Ward. He did not release the names or ages of any of the injured.

The bombs appeared to have been made of plastic bottles with corrosive material, Ward said. Police were called to Pioneer Street — off Brooks Avenue — about 9:20 p.m. for a report of “suspicious noise,” Ward said. Two more explosions occurred once police arrived.

Rochester firefighters decontaminated all of the injured at the scene.

Police did not have anyone in custody late Tuesday. Ward said the injured youths “may have knowledge” of the explosions, but he said police would get them any needed medical attention before deciding whether charges would be filed.

Pictures implying assassinations. The specific referencing in this picture implied the target was a leader in the UK

FBI looking into trucker arrest

Two Arab individuals with Canadian identification were detained by White County Detective John Slater and Officer Brent Bittle Monday night after Slater spotted the 18-wheeler they were driving stopped at a Rose Bud Quick Stop about 5:20 p.m. Monday.

Slater thought that was unusual. "You never see 18-wheelers getting fuel at a little quick shop like that in Rose Bud Arkansas."

Detective Slater decided to run the trucks tags, but didn't get any information back. He pulled around to the side and saw the two middle eastern individuals. The two men spotted the patrol car , hurriedly entered the semi and left the parking lot.(snip)


It is still unknown why the men fled Detective Slater, and a search of the contents of the privately owned truck turned up flowers that were being delivered to Wal-Mart stores.(snip)

The men have been released on their own recognizance due to insufficient charges to hold them on.

Four Staten Islanders have been charged with a bias crime for allegedly yelling anti-Semitic slurs at Jewish students in West Brighton, and students said it is just the latest in a spate of anti-Semitic incidents to occur near their school.

The suspects are accused of getting into a dispute with Jewish students near Yeshiva Tiferes Torah on Delafield Avenue at 11:45 a.m. on Monday. Identified by police as Middle-Eastern, the defendants were charged with yelling ethnic slurs at the victims, who were wearing yarmulkes.(snip)

Heavenly Father, we return to give You thanks that Your hand continues to bless us, not by merit of our own, but by Your grace and mercy. There was an article in the Washington Post a few years back about huge gas bubbles under the oceanic crust near the continental shelf off of the mid-Atlantic that could easily cause a Tsunami. The idea was an eruption would cause the continental slope to slide down to the ocean bottom, shortening the continental shelf in the area around MD/VA/NC and triggering the Tsunami. This was the old link I bookmarked though it probably doesn't work now:

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute was the source and if you dig deep enough on their site you might find the original press release under the ocean geology department.
