US Promises to Punish Those Responsible for Gruesome Iraq Attacks

The top U.S. official in Iraq says Wednesday's gruesome attacks on four American civilians whose burned bodies were put on display in the town of Fallujah will not go unpunished.

"It's going to be deliberate, it will be precise and it will be overwhelming," U.S. General Mark Kimmitt said, speaking to reporters in Baghdad. He warned insurgents in the town of Fallujah to be prepared for U.S. forces to strike back following Wednesday's killing of four American contractors by a frenzied mob that dragged their charred bodies through the streets.

Televised footage of the act has provoked outrage from Americans in the United States and led U.S. administrator in Baghdad Paul Bremer to issue a warning.

"Their deaths will not go unpunished," he promised.

The White House blamed the attacks on supporters of Saddam Hussein. The remains of the four were to be turned over to the U.S. military.

A day after the attack, three American soldiers were injured in another attack near Fallujah, this time when their Humvee struck a roadside bomb.

If it was stolen by terrorists, I doubt they would be worried about filling it legally with gasoline. I can think of other uses that would cause a lot more damage. It would merely be a way to deliver the "device" to the target unnoticed.

Gold has dropped precipitously since it's high of around $430 three or four weeks ago.

I think this is exactly opposite of what would be expected due to rising interest rates or inflation.

It looks like the Fed is going to tighten up a bit, and all the signs were there a month ago with the good jobs report and all the other good economic news.

It could be that the run up in gold a month ago was in anticipation of the Fed tightening up money, which it looks like will happen, but probably not til after Nov 2.

Then when people thought it through and realized the Fed was unlikely to do much, if anything before the election, people got out of gold to go into something that will give a better return until the election is over.

I know it's not very exciting because it doesn't tie in with terror, but it may be what's happening.

I know, I just find it strange that the FBI would be discussing legal placard filling regulations....as if someone who would steal such a vehicle would be worried about following regulations. Also the news is reporting that law enforcement is searching for the truck by land and in the air.

They are also reporting that there is a possibility that the truck could be disassembled and sold for scrap metal....if they think that this is a real possibility, I am scared for our safety, these officials are idiots or they think that the general public are idiots. Whomever took the truck must have a place to hide it...e.g. warehouse, barn etc.

Good point, Ricky :) I hope you're right. I don't know what it means - just that it is unusual.

Yeah, it's pretty silly of them talking about placards and filling it.

Maybe part of a story to divert attention, calm the sheeple? The sheeple will think "gee they can't fill it, ok nothing to worry about" and then forget the story?

I always look for the sheeple factor in official releases :)

From a good friend in Maryland.

I can tell you that bomb threats are a regular occurance in public schools around here.....if they evacuated all schools, there must have been some information that led them to believe that it was legit and not a hoax. Bomb scares are regular, evacuations (especially countywide) are not :)

>>If you watch them (and I do these days), they really don't like us Americans too much and it shows on their faces.<<

I agree. I went with a friend several months ago to check out a car at a used lot. The Middle Eastern guy who ran the place was really schmoozing her. While in his office, she and I carried on a conversation, but the whole time, I was listening to him on the phone. When I addressed him by name (although he had not introduced himself to me, I overheard it in his conversation), he was taken aback. When next I asked where he was from and how long he had been here in the US, the hostility was not even veiled.

She bought the car, and I have returned to the lot with her several times (tags, payments, etc.) He finally asked, "Does she go with you everywhere?" He made no bones about the fact he did not appreciate my inquiries.

A while back there was a posting about someone intercepting a ham radio broadcast that they thought was strange. Can someone please point me to that posting? Thanks.

Always keep in mind that Savannah is a MAJOR port, much larger than most people realize. In fact, I believe the port at Savannah was listed one or two threads back as a possible entrance port for terrorists, ala the modified cargo containers.

Amtrak engineer blamed in NYC train crash (name not released)

By DEEPTI HAJELA

Associated Press

NEW YORK - The engineer of an empty Amtrak train that rear-ended a crowded Long Island Rail Road commuter train was responsible for the crash, investigators said Tuesday. The accident left 127 people with mostly minor injuries.

The Monday morning rush hour collision "was caused by human error on the part of the engineer of Train 183, the Amtrak train," Amtrak spokesman Dan Stessel said.

An investigating committee - comprised of Amtrak, LIRR and federal railroad officials - found the engineer failed to comply with regulations governing restricted speed. "You must be able to stop your train short of another train," Stessel said.

The engineer, whose identity was withheld by Amtrak, has been suspended without pay. Stessel said a formal investigation is pending and further action may be taken. Amtrak was awaiting the results of drug and alcohol tests.

The LIRR train was waiting in a tunnel to enter Pennsylvania Station when it was hit from behind by a crew-only Amtrak train moving at less than 15 mph.

"All of a sudden there is a thunderous crash from behind and we all go flying into one another," said LIRR commuter Bob Buchmann, 46, program director of WAXQ Radio. "It was thunderous, and it was violent.

"From the train crew to the passengers who rose up to the occasion, it was really handled well," he added.

Yet another train derailment

Twenty-nine cars of grain train derail in northwest Montana

04/20/2004

Associated Press

Twenty-nine cars of a grain train derailed east of here Tuesday and were expected to block the rail line well into Wednesday, a Burlington Northern Santa Fe spokesman said.

No one was injured in the 11:45 a.m. derailment and the cause has not been determined, said BNSF spokesman Gus Melonas. He said the 110-car train was carrying corn from Sioux City, Iowa, to Pasco, Wash.

About 35 crew members planned to work through the night and heavy equipment was brought in from Whitefish, Havre and Billings, Melonas said. He said officials don't know how much grain spilled, and that vacuum devices are being used to clean up the scattered corn.

Amtrak planned to bus passengers between Spokane, Wash., and Shelby, while some freight trains were being rerouted with Montana Rail Link, Melonas said.

No one hurt as empty coal cars derail in Essexville

Monday, April 19, 2004

By Tim Younkman
TIMES WRITER

The end of Main Street in Essexville was blocked today after three Huron and Eastern Railway train cars jumped the tracks Sunday, Essexville police said.

The road was blocked near the main entrance of Essroc Materials Inc. and has prevented the company from using its normal entrance to the plant.

But the business remains open, said Eldon "Buzz" West, production manager.

"We have another entrance at the foot of Langstaff Street and we can use the secondary entrance for our truck traffic," he said.

The cars that jumped the track are gondola cars that had been filled with coal but had delivered the cargo over the weekend to Consumers Energy's Karn-Weadock facility in Hampton Township, said Kelly M. Farr, spokesman for the utility.

Farr said he did not have details about the derailment, but said it should not have any impact on Consumers' operations because the next coal shipment is not due until later this week.

A crew from a private firm in Toledo was called in to repair the tracks and put the cars back on the tracks.

It was not known what caused the train to derail at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday. There were no toxic materials aboard and no danger to anyone, said Timothy Weiler, Essexville Public Safety Department director.

West said railroad crews had been working on the section of track near the plant in recent weeks, repairing and replacing older track and ties.

Representatives from Huron and Eastern Railway did not return a call earlier today for comment on the accident.

A spokeswoman for Central Michigan Railroad said the Essexville line recently was sold to the Vassar-based Huron and Eastern Railway.

Update -

Police say dead man had been shot

By Tom Spalding

April 20, 2004

Indianapolis police are treating the discovery of a body under a bridge near the White River as a homicide after an autopsy today showed he had been shot multiple times.

The identity of Dennis O. Hood, 40, formerly of the Westside, was made through fingerprints, said Detective Michael Crooke, one of the investigators on the homicide.

Dennis O. Hood
Police began investigating on Monday after a body covered in trash bags was discovered among some junk under the 38th Street overpass on White River Parkway, West Drive.

Around 8 a.m. Monday, a man taking his child to school saw what appeared to be the shape of arms and legs wrapped in plastic and taped together.

Crooke said no missing person's report had been filed prior to the discovery and identification of Hood, although loved ones told police they had not seen him for several days.

The discovery of the body -- the city's 20th homicide o\f the year -- continues a gruesome four-day stretch in which five people were killed. Police said the city's total is still three lower than at this point in 2003.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 1-317-262-TIPS or Crooke at 1-317-327-3475.

Determine when most people attend the mosques in all US cities. Surround them and seal them off. Remove the participants to temporary; secure shelter. Purge the mosques of weapons.) All Muslims living in this country should be isolated and guarded until further notice. This may save cities and countless American lives. We're still involved in a WAR and this is not the time or place for political correctness. Round them up, treat them nice and increase our level of safety immensely. If they are unhappy with this, let them leave the country.

Such a great idea, it deserves another mention. Unfortunately, saving "us" is not the 1st priority of government; it is saving "the country/government"...at any price. And for a reason I don't fully comprehend, I don't think the government thinks rounding up Muslims is required to save itself/themselves...
