Done. There is certainly a difference of opinion here on FR, but when it comes right down to it, I think Dr. Rice is very savvy and if she is declining, I'll just bet she is right.

No, she can't. She's already testified in private to begin with.

Appears one can vote more than once.
The question is misleading. She's already testified before the commission, just not in public where she will be used for grandstanding by the Party of Evil.

Agreed!
No NSA has ever testified in public before. Her closed hearing testimony should be sufficient. The enemy ...ungodly communist, socialist, liberals and democrats are playing dirty politics as usual.

The Demorats just want to have a Bush Staff member to embarrass front of TV's across the country. Do you think they would stick to asking about pre and post 911 issues? Dream on if you do. No, but Hell No, is the correct answer.

Why is the White House so tepid in pointing these things out? They should replace Scott McClellan with Dennis Miller, and let him rant on the media demands that Condi testify in public.

Correct. They'd probably get into "Where are the WMDs?" "Why did the White House lie about connections between Saddam and al-Qaeda?", and the rest of their mantra.

I've been twirling around an idea that might work for Bush, politically. First, he should continue to assert Executive Privilege concerning Condi Rice. Second, he should make himself available to give unsworn testimony -- and have Condi seated RIGHT NEXT TO HIM -- to underscore the nature of that privilege. This way Bush gets to pull an "Ollie North", Condi comes across looking something like a lawyer in a legal proceeding (whispering in the president's ear offmike), and this Panel of Has-Been's & Nobodys comes off small.
I now that this risks Presidential Stature, but Lincoln did the same thing during the Civil War when he slapped the Committee on the Conduct of the War.
