What was FDR doing when Pearl Harbor was attacked? (RUSH's question)
today | FReepers

Posted on 03/05/2004 10:34:04 AM PST by shutup_you_idiot

Rush just asked what FDR was doing when he heard the news of Pearl Harbor being attacked. He was talking about the snide remarks by the liberal media about how Bush was talking to a bunch of school kids when "3,000 people were murdered."

Looks like a job for FReeper sleuths!

Was FDR... (gasp!)... Snacking on brunch in the Oval Office study?!

"Word of the attack reached President Roosevelt as he lunched in his oval study on Sunday afternoon."

I'd like a post of his comments demonstrating that the objectors to the ad were coached. Anybody?

FDR response was likely: "what took them so long, now we can get rolling into this war".

"In Washington D.C. it was early afternoon. President Roosevelt was having lunch with Harry Hopkins, his trusted friend and chief policy aide. The phone rang . It was Roosevelt's Secretary of War, Henry Stimson. Stimson told the President of the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor. Hopkins refused to believe the report. The President believed it."

I dunno, but I heard he was on the telephone with the CIA hours before the attack when he learned about the attack before it happened and chose to do nothing. </sarcasm>

He was out of the country on 9-11, wasn't he?

I would counter that because Bush was talking with children, is proof positive that he had no reason to suspect that anything untoward was going to happen.

Pres. Bush was going about his normal day. This attack was unprovoked, and was a true test of his leadership abilities. Pres. Bush responded and rose to meet the mantle of President of the United States of America.

The question I would pose is "Would Pres. Bush be a noteworthy president if it were not for 9-11?"

More than a few people believe that FDR knew well in advance of the coming attack on Pearl Harbor and some pretty convincing evidence has been presented. Not one shred of evidence has been shown that Bush knew in advance yet the libs claim he did and blame him for the attack.

But with the evidence that FDR knew readily available, the libs consider him to be the greatest hero and president of all time.

I've been looking into something I think is even more interesting. I've been trying to find FDR campaign speeches from 1944.

Of the few I've found so far all of them have some reference to Pearl Harbor.

Just goes to show what utter hypocrites democrats are.

Most of the liberals I came in contact with that day are so self-centered as to think the next plane could very well be headed for them. When I inquired to what kind of contorted of logic they were applying. They could only flail their arms and scream (and often cry) it could happen. I think its better for America we don't have a people [liberals] so moronic, inept, and DEPENDANT, in office.

If I remember correctly he was in Australia at the time. I thought it very convenient at the time. Should I start a few conspiracy theories based on this information alone?

(GASP!!!!)

He was eating salmon! How DARE he!

http://216.239.37.104/search?q=cache:JZovqQyvPLsJ:www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/1999/9901.symposium.levine.html+December+7,+1941+%22pearl+harbor%22+lunch+%22oval+office%22+roosevelt+%22united+states%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

The mounting strain between Japan and the U.S. seems to have reached the boiling point today, just as the President was enjoying a lunch of salmon and asparagus served by two uniformed White House stewards on the First Lady's favorite china, a wedding gift from that brisk March day in 1905 when the then-hopeful couple were married in a lovely outdoor ceremony at Hyde Park.

About 1 p.m., the President was interrupted by an urgent visit from his top aide, Harry Hopkins. "Yes, Harry?" the President inquired. "What's so important?" Hopkins, sources say, blurted out: "The Japanese have attacked Pearl Harbor, sir!"

No. I'm not even sure if the OSS which was the predecessor to the CIA was operational in 1941.
