Why Isn't There a Conservative Answer to MoveOn.org?
03-05-2004 | Americathy

I'm new to Free Republic, and I kind of see it as an activist haven for conservatives. But I only heard about it by way of an e-mail link, though once I think I heard Ann Coulter mention it on Hannity & Colmes. I'm sure there are other activist organizations out there, but I have to wonder if conservatives have anything like MoveOn.org. My guess is, no - at least nothing that is visible, or has the backing of huge money from people like George Soros, who I think is a very scary power player. Everyone knows that the Democrats can rely on MoveOn to be its mouthpiece, which means they have a way to get around campaign laws.

I saw an article linked on this site, by Mona Charon, that advises Bush to take the gloves off. If we had a MoveOn.org of our own, with the money to produce commercials, perhaps we could put those gloves on for ourselves. I would love to see some very damaging commercials about John Kerry's post-war record and his voting record. He is a traitor to this country, but all I hear from Republicans is how much respect his service to our country. I would respect it to if he hadn't come back as a traitor. I would love to see some Vietnam Vets step up to the plate on primetime.

Hillary is another problem. We need to crush her. I didn't hear a thing about Hillary's pro-Saddam comments this week until I saw a thread on this site, the article by Oliver North. I would love to see some commercials made by our own activist group that denounces her viciously. Put these rotten people's records in primetime. We must expose them and hit them with both barrels!

If there is an conservative organization that is comparable to MoveOn.org, please let me know, and I'll join up. After that I'll be asking, "Why haven't I heard of you? Is it me? And if you are out there, where are the commercials, the ads, the visibility? Do you have a big power player, an answer to Soros?"

Just some thoughts, and I would interested to hear what everybody thinks.

Maybe Conservatives could provide a "Moral Alternative" to the immoral/amoral Liberal control of Hollywood / academia / the legal profession / labor / etc.

For example, a Conservative Hollywood could be just as lucrative, or more, as is the current Liberal version and produce a better quality product at the same time.

Check out the photos at The DC Chapter of Free Republic website: www.dcchapter.com. They give an excellent recap of the various activities and opportunities that the DC Chapter has participated in over the past few years.

We have been very active on the streets for the last five years in the DC area and other chapters around the country have also taken to the streets to counter the anti-war protesters, protest Hillary (at her booksignings), fight against the liberal propaganda, protest the attempted theft of the White House during the 2000 Election, protest or support local people/events, and support our troops during the war on terrorism.

Where are you located? There might be a chapter nearby. If you are ever in DC, you will most probably have an opportunity to get out on the streets.

If we could only take it to the next step and force the media to contend with us ....

Check your state board and keep a lookout for opportunities to "Freep" liberals in your area.

Do you remember the 2000 elections? Do you remember the group standing outside the house where Algore and family were living (the Veep's house)? From the time of the election until 36 days later when Algore finally conceded, that group stood and chanted "Get out of Cheney's house". Algore and Tipper complained on the news that it upset their children (who were grown at the time, BTW) That was the DC Chapter of Free Republic along with Freepers from other areas who were able to make it into town.

There are lots of ways to get involved, you just have to go out looking for them.

Conservatives by and large reject group identity and identity politics. They are people devoted to their rugged individualism. It is against their nature to gather into groups ...

I've heard Rush say this more than once. Thanks for the reminder.

I think we should adopt the following site:

www.neverforget.org

And then notify the RNC to emphasize the contrast:

Never Forget [versus] Move On

Because that's the underlying dynamic of this race.

Why? Do you watch alot of TV? Do commercials influence your political views?

I think that A LOT of people are influenced by commercials. All the major money at the networks come from the sponsors. Why would anyone run a commercial if there was no return? Obviously there is a payback.

It's true that if people hear the same things over and over, they will begin to believe it. Bush has been trashed by the media, the networks, celebrities, and now moveon.org. Believe me, there are so many naive people out there that believe if they see it on TV, it must be true! I think Americathy is saying that we need to counter this blitz on their own turf. Although rallies are excellent, the media will ignore or supress coverage. Email is great, but not everyone has email - particularly the elderly voter - who, by the way, I believe is the most easily influenced by television coverage.

Moveon.org has been playing those same crappy commercials here for months, (we live in a mostly conservative oasis in all important - for the election - Florida) trying to scare the elderly and independants. It would be nice to be able to counter those ads. The President's ads have just started to run, and hopefully there will be more. Just because you and I are not swayed by moveon.org's propaganda does not mean that no one else is.

Because true conservatives believe in the power of the individual. We want an environment that removes government intrusion, that values privacy and self-worth. Conservatives are the world's pragmatists.

Liberals prefer to move in groups, because they feel worthless unless they are interfering with someone else's affairs. Individualism is a disease in their view. Achievers must be brought down so as not to make others feel bad. Liberals are the world's busibodies.

I commend you for the most practical suggestion yet. "Each one, sign one" is the easiest way to grow our conservative base. I've suggest before that Free Republic should run a "Memberthon" and ask each member to pledge to gain at least one other member. Sheer numbers will be the thing that tips the scales in our favor when it comes to activism. We also need to apply your suggestion by getting at least one person to register Republican. I am taking two friends to register next week. They have never voted before. They are like many Americans who are so busy raising their family and just getting by day to day they don't ever get involved with "politics".

If you put your state flag on your profile page you will be contacted more often when activism is required. Thanks for this thread. It's something I think a lot of us are feeling.

Excellent! Well done.
