He could have come out at the same time, had her at the WH for the ceremony, and announced that he was in full support of the language of her amendment and that he'd work to get it approved in the House and Senate as quickly as possible. That's all I'm saying.

I had to jump in here, Granite, and say that the right answer at the wrong time is almost always the wrong answer. Timing is everything.

the media would have just painted him as an intolerant bigot creating a problem that didn't exist just for political gain

You know and I know that the media would do that no matter which time he picked; ergo, it's not a valid justification for delay.

The only reason I can think of is that it's what I called it -- a side-show diversion from his gross failures on real issues (spending, RKBA, etc).

Yeah. Me too.

Can Hillary come in and mess this up for us?

When Kerry is seen as he really is by the American people, he can't win!

No, you can impeach out-of-control activist judges. We should have done it over a lot less than this and a lot sooner than now.

That is true at the federal level - but all of these decisions (Vermont, Mass., SF) are at the state level, so impeachment is not an option. So how is your statement relevant to the current subject?

Look, clearly you don't follow the president very closely and listen to what he says, so please don't think your ill-informed opinion is worth spit.

Because it's not. Worth spit, that is.

We have heard all that before. It's a non-starter, IMHO.

FF&C from one state will force every other state to acknowledge these "marriages." A Constitutional ban is the right way to go.

Let the blow fall, I await its coming.

...taken to convince me that a marriage amendment is necessary....

Most probably; however there is another path to consider.

I know you don't like Bush, but his timing on this is just about perfect.

Amen!

True enough, and my mistake for referring to the 14th regarding slavery.

I am embarrassed far less by such an error than I would be if I was weak enough on the topic to substitute insults for reason.

Are you watching this Dem nitwit being interviewed on FNC .. she's saying that for the President to come out this early to be running as a candidate instead of being a President shows a sign of desperation

I did not see her, but that's what I saw Kerry YELL at a rally yesterday (he's "going Dean"). This after HE wrote that stupid and vicious letter demanding a debate one on one with President Bush.

Cognitive dissonance is the dem way.

I'm just tired of politicians being so reactive and not solving problems before they happen. Don't you think it would have been better to have formed the HSD before 9/11 instead of after, for example? Marilyn Musgrave saw what is happening now and acted last year. That's true leadership.

Good. ....It'll force Kerry and Edwards to take a stand on the issue.

And they'll either place themselves on the wrong side or will be dancing on the fence most ungracefully.

"Full faith and credit" does not extend the legislative authority of any state over another state. If a gay marriage, civil union or whatever is not legal in a state, it is not legal in a state.

I agree with you on an academic level, Imal. But I think we all learned a lesson (the President included) with Campaign Finance Reform. CFR had some GOOD elements (increased hard money limits) and some very very BAD elements. Many of us (me, for instance) believed SCOTUS would strike down the bad, and keep the good. We were wrong, albeit by one vote...

I don't think we can trust SCOTUS to do the right thing on this issue. Not unless we have to.

At least that is how I see it. :)

regards,
rd.
