The tip, received in March 1999, appears to be one of the earliest signs that U.S. officials had about one of the 2001 hijackers....The hijacker was identified as Marwan al-Shehhi by The New York Times, which reported German officials tipped off the CIA. This doesn't quite make sense. Al-Shehhi didn't arrive in America until mid-2000, if I recall correctly. What good would a German phone number have done anyone?

Eavesdropping, perhaps ? If they planned 9/11 while still in Germany, that could have done wonders.
To: kattracks
The 911 commission, if it continues in this vein, is going to finally get to the root cause of the 911 attack; Clinton's sustained assault on intelligence services beginning in his first term.
Dems can try to portray Bush as the "insider" with knowledge aforehand about the attacks, but if the commission is objective, its final report will point the fickle finger of fate directly at the administration of Billy Jeff "Bubba" Clinton and his co-spawn of Satan.
THAT will be a huge wake-up call for the leftists. However, don't expect to hear those reports on a TV network near you. Odds are the alphabets won't run the story.

The tip, received in March 1999, appears to be one of the earliest signs that U.S. officials had about one of the 2001 hijackers. It also may have represented a missed chance for U.S. intelligence to uncover a terror cell in Germany that was a key element of the hijacking plot. I forget -- who was President in 1999? Someone refresh my memory.

Then they will be ignoring the story at their own peril -- it's all about 911 for crying out loud!

The libs will not wake up to that. They have this stupid comment they make every time something bad happens they say. "it's Clintons fault" They are brushing off each and every action the Clintons have done by making a joke out of it.
To: kattracks
George W. Bush should publicly take full responsibility
for not cleaning up the mess left by his predecessor.

Nonsense.
Terrorism began on Bush's watch, not Clinton's.
In fact, so did the problems of the homeless, AIDs, global warming and jock itch.

If I may respectfully disagree......we are in the middle of a fight for our lives.....what are we supposed to do.....fire Tenet.....demoralize the CIA.....when we need them focused and in the hunt.

I think you missed his point...look at where he put the line break and add your own "dramatic pause" there, and then notice the sly grin on his face...

I forget -- who was President in 1999? Someone refresh my memory. It was Albert Gore, Jr, who became President after heroic Senate Republicans conducted a public trial of the charges of impeachment laid by the House in 1998 against William J. Clinton.
The 47-day trial was so thorough and comprehensive that the public, revolted by the personal and official corruption of the man from Arkansas, demanded his conviction, and he was removed from office by a 78-20 vote on March 3, 1999.

I thought about putting a "/s" after my comment but decided against it.
Since you brought up the subject of Tenet, the time for him to offer his resignation passed within the first week or so after 9-11. Of course, that can be said about a number of political appointees and other government officials.

I forget -- who was President in 1999? Someone refresh my memory. Hey, now! That's old, ancient history and is irrelevant to the current intelligence failings and corruption of the Bush Administration. /sarcasm off.

What really kept me from tagging it as sarcasm is that I believe sometime before the election someone in the W campaign (maybe W) will do just that. I can only hope. :)
